Heavy right-handed neutrino dark matter in left-right models

    P. S. Bhupal Dev🇺🇸 · Rabindra N. Mohapatra🇺🇸 · Yongchao Zhang🇧🇪

We show that in a class of non-supersymmetric left-right extensions of the Standard Model (SM), the lightest right-handed neutrino (RHN) can play the role of thermal Dark Matter (DM) in the Universe for a wide mass range from TeV to PeV. Our model is based on the gauge group in which a heavy copy of the SM fermions are introduced and the stability of the RHN DM is guaranteed by an automatic symmetry present in the leptonic sector. In such models the active neutrino masses are obtained via the type-II seesaw mechanism. We find a lower bound on the RHN DM mass of order TeV from relic density constraints, as well as an unitarity upper bound in the multi-TeV to PeV scale, depending on the entropy dilution factor. The RHN DM could be made long-lived by soft-breaking of the symmetry and provides a concrete example of decaying DM interpretation of the PeV neutrinos observed at IceCube.

    Metastable pions in dense media

    Marcelo Loewe🇿🇦 · Alfredo Raya🇲🇽 · Cristian Villavicencio🇨🇱

We study the leptonic decay of charged pions in a compact star environment. Considering leptons as a degenerated Fermi system, pions are tightly constrained to decay into these particles because their Fermi levels are occupied. Thus, pion decay is only possible through thermal fluctuations. Under these circumstances, pion lifetime is larger and hence can be considered to reach a metastable state. We explore restrictions under which such a metastability is possible. We also study conditions under which pions and leptons already in chemical equilibrium can reach simultaneously the thermal equilibrium, and obtain the neutrino emissivity from metastable pions. Scenarios that favor this metastable state are protoneutron stars.

    A flavor-safe composite explanation of

    Adrian Carmona🇨🇭 · Florian Goertz🇨🇭

In these proceedings we discuss a flavor-safe explanation of the anomaly found in by LHCb, within the framework of composite Higgs models. We present a model featuring a non-negligible degree of compositeness for all three generations of right-handed leptons, which leads to a violation of lepton-flavor universality in neutral current interactions while other constraints from quark- and lepton-flavor physics are met. Moreoever, the particular embedding of the lepton sector considered in this setup provides a parametrically enhanded contribution to the Higgs mass that can weak considerably the need for ultra-light top partners.

Constraints on the trilinear Higgs coupling from vector boson fusion and associated Higgs production at the LHC

    Wojciech Bizon🇬🇧 · Martin Gorbahn🇬🇧 · Ulrich Haisch🇬🇧 · Giulia Zanderighi🇨🇭

We examine the constraints on the trilinear Higgs coupling that originate from associated () and vector boson fusion (VBF) Higgs production in collisions in the context of the Standard Model effective field theory. The 1-loop contributions to and that stem from insertions of the dimension-6 operator are calculated and combined with the corrections to the partial decay widths of the Higgs boson. Employing next-to-next-to-leading order QCD predictions, we analyse the sensitivity of current and forthcoming measurements of the signal strengths in and VBF Higgs production to changes in . We show that future LHC runs may be able to probe modifications of with a sensitivity similar to the one that is expected to arise from determinations of double-Higgs production. The sensitivity of differential and VBF Higgs distributions to a modified coupling is also studied.

    Spontaneous Baryogenesis without Baryon Isocurvature

    Andrea De Simone🇮🇹 · Takeshi Kobayashi🇮🇹

We propose a new class of spontaneous baryogenesis models that does not produce baryon isocurvature perturbations. The baryon chemical potential in these models is independent of the field value of the baryon-generating scalar, hence the scalar field fluctuations are blocked from propagating into the baryon isocurvature. We demonstrate this mechanism in simple examples where spontaneous baryogenesis is driven by a non-canonical scalar field. The suppression of the baryon isocurvature allows spontaneous baryogenesis to be compatible even with high-scale inflation.

    Soft-/rapidity- anomalous dimensions correspondence

    Alexey A. Vladimirov🇩🇪

We establish a correspondence between ultraviolet singularities of soft factors for multiparticle production and rapidity singularities of soft factors for multiparton scattering. This correspondence is a consequence of the conformal mapping between scattering geometries. The correspondence is valid to all orders of perturbation theory and in this way provides one with a proof of rapidity renormalization procedure for multiparton scattering (including the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization as a special case). As a by-product, we obtain an exact relation between the rapidity anomalous dimension and the well-known soft anomalous dimension. The three-loop expressions for TMD and a general multiparton scattering rapidity anomalous dimension are derived.

NLO QCD + EW corrections to production with subsequent leptonic decays at LHC

    Wang Hong🇨🇳 · Zhang Ren-You🇨🇳 · Ma Wen-Gan🇨🇳 · Guo Lei🇨🇳 · Li Xiao-Zhou🇨🇳 · Wang Shao-Ming🇨🇳

In this paper we present the NLO QCD + NLO EW corrections to the production with subsequent -boson leptonic decays at the LHC by adopting the improved narrow width approximation, which takes into account off-shell contributions and spin correlations. Integrated cross sections at , , and hadron colliders and various kinematic distributions are presented. Our numerical results show that the jet emission correction accounts for a large part of the total QCD correction, especially in the high energy region. By applying a proper cut to the jet transverse momentum, e.g., , the jet emission correction can be reduced and the cross section is less dependent on the factorization/renormalization scale. This work reveals that both the NLO QCD and the NLO EW corrections are significant. For example, the NLO QCD, NLO EW and NLO QCD + EW relative corrections in the inclusive event selection scheme at the LHC can reach , and , respectively, which means that neither the NLO QCD nor the NLO EW correction is negligible in precision calculations.

Exploring a heavy charged Higgs using jet substructure in a fully hadronic channel

    Riley Patrick🇦🇺 · Pankaj Sharma🇦🇺 · Anthony G. Williams🇦🇺

In the framework of the type-II Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM-II) a charged Higgs search strategy is presented for the dominant production mode at the 14 TeV LHC. We consider the decay process which includes and , and a fully hadronic final state consisting of . Dictated by the constraints which render GeV we study two scenarios in which the charged Higgs mass is 750 GeV and the pseudoscalar Higgs mass is 200 GeV and 500 GeV. In this mass scheme highly boosted final state objects are expected and handled with jet substructure techniques which also acts to suppress the standard model background. A detailed detector analysis is performed, followed by a multivariate analysis involving many kinematic variables to optimize signal to background significance. Finally the LHC search sensitivities for the two scenarios are presented for various integrated luminosities.

Isentropic thermodynamics and scalar-mesons properties near the QCD critical end point

    Pedro Costa🇵🇹

We investigate the QCD phase diagram and the location of the critical end point (CEP) in the SU(2) PolyakovNambuJona-Lasinio model with entanglement interaction giving special attention to the and -mesons properties, namely the decay widths , for several conditions around the CEP: we focus on the possible decay along the isentropic trajectories close to the CEP since the hydrodynamical expansion of a heavy-ion collision fireball nearly follows trajectories of constant entropy. It is expected that the type of transition the dense medium goes through as it expands after the thermalization determines the behavior of this decay. It is shown that no pions are produced from the sigma decay in the chirally symmetric phase if the isentropic lines approach the first order line from chemical potentials above it. Near the CEP or above the decay is possible with a high decay width.

Neutrino oscillations from warped flavor symmetry: predictions for long baseline experiments T2K, NOvA and DUNE

    Pedro Pasquini🇧🇷 · S. C. Chuliá🇪🇸 · J. W. F. Valle🇪🇸

Here we study the pattern of neutrino oscillations emerging from a previously proposed warped model construction incorporating flavor symmetry. In addition to a complete description of fermion masses, the model predicts the lepton mixing matrix in terms of two parameters. The good measurement of makes these two parameters nearly proportional, leading to an approximate one-parameter description of neutrino oscillations. There is a sharp fourfold degenerate correlation between and the atmospheric mixing angle , so that maximal also implies maximal leptonic CP violation. The predicted electron neutrino and anti-neutrino appearance probabilities indicate that the model should be tested at the T2K, NOA and DUNE long baseline oscillation experiments.

-messenger Couplings Address the \& Problem and Puzzle

    Zhaofeng Kang🇰🇷

Gauge mediated supersymmetry (SUSY)-breaking (GMSB) furnishes the best idea to overcome the flavor problem in SSMs, supersymmetric stand models (SM). However, implemented in the minimal SSM (MSSM), a very serious fine-tuning problem arises, owing to the absence of a large term in the stop sector to radiatively enhance the SM-like Higgs boson mass. In the extended GMSB coupling to messengers can alleviate this problem but encounters the problem, i.e., at the same time a large is generated, rendering radiative electroweak spontaneously breaking (EWSB) problematic. This issue shows similarity to another long-standing problem of GMSB, the problem, and, of great interest, we find that they may admit the same solution, nonradiative EWSB. Such a solution is naturally accommodated when both and couple to messengers. As a bonus of nonradiative EWSB, the sleptons tend to be very light due to the significant renormalization group equation effect and they are able to account for the puzzle. As a concrete example, we investigate a hidden sector with messengers.

Scale dependence of open and production in the low region

    E.G. de Oliveira🇧🇷 · A.D. Martin🇬🇧 · M.G. Ryskin🇬🇧

The `optimal' factorization scale is calculated for open heavy quark production. We find that the optimal value is ; a choice which allows us to resum the double-logarithmic, corrections (enhanced at LHC energies by large values of ) and to move them into the incoming parton distributions, PDF. Besides this result for the single inclusive cross section (corresponding to an observed heavy quark of transverse momentum ), we also determined the scale for processes where the acoplanarity can be measured; that is, events where the azimuthal angle between the quark and the antiquark may be determined experimentally. Moreover, we discuss the important role played by the subprocesses, at NLO and higher orders. In summary, we achieve a better stability of the QCD calculations, so that the data on and production can be used to further constrain the gluons in the small , relatively low scale, domain, where the uncertainties of the global analyses are large at present.

    Scrutinizing the pion condensed phase

    Stefano Carignano🇮🇹 · Luca Lepori🇮🇹 · Andrea Mammarella🇮🇹 · Massimo Mannarelli🇮🇹 · Giulia Pagliaroli🇮🇹

When the isospin chemical potential exceeds the pion mass, charged pions condense in the zero-momentum state forming a superfluid. Chiral perturbation theory provides a very powerful tool for studying this phase. However, the formalism that is usually employed in this context does not clarify various aspects of the condensation mechanism and makes the identification of the soft modes problematic. We re-examine the pion condensed phase using different approaches within the chiral perturbation theory framework. As a first step, we perform a low-density expansion of the chiral Lagrangian valid close to the onset of the Bose-Einstein condensation. We obtain an effective theory that can be mapped to a Gross-Pitaevskii Lagrangian in which, remarkably, all the coefficients depend on the isospin chemical potential. The low-density expansion becomes unreliable deep in the pion condensed phase. For this reason, we develop an alternative field expansion deriving a low-energy Lagrangian analog to that of quantum magnets. By integrating out the "radial" fluctuations we obtain a soft Lagrangian in terms of the Nambu-Goldstone bosons arising from the breaking of the pion number symmetry. Finally, we test the robustness of the second-order transition between the normal and the pion condensed phase when next-to-leading-order chiral corrections are included. We determine the range of parameters for turning the second-order phase transition into a first-order one, finding that the currently accepted values of these corrections are unlikely to change the order of the phase transition.

Gravitational "seesaw" and light bending in higher-derivative gravity

    Antonio Accioly🇧🇷 · Breno L. Giacchini🇧🇷 · Ilya L. Shapiro🇧🇷

Local gravitational theories with more than four derivatives have remarkable quantum properties, e.g., they are super-renormalizable and may be unitary in the Lee-Wick sense. Therefore, it is important to explore also the IR limit of these theories and identify observable signatures of the higher derivatives. In the present work we study the scattering of a photon by a classical external gravitational field in the sixth-derivative model whose propagator contains only real, simple poles. Also, we discuss the possibility of a gravitational seesaw-like mechanism, which could allow the make up of a relatively small physical mass from the huge massive parameters of the action. If possible, this mechanism would be a way out of the Planck suppression, affecting the gravitational deflection of low energy photons. It turns out that the mechanism which actually occurs works only to shift heavier masses to the further UV region. This fact may be favourable for protecting the theory from instabilities, but makes experimental detection of higher derivatives more difficult.

Surface tension of highly magnetized degenerate quark matter

    G. Lugones🇧🇷 · A. G. Grunfeld🇦🇷

We study the surface tension of highly magnetized three flavor quark matter within the formalism of multiple reflection expansion (MRE). Quark matter is described as a mixture of free Fermi gases composed by quarks , , and electrons, in chemical equilibrium under weak interactions. Due to the presence of strong magnetic fields the particles' transverse motion is quantized into Landau levels, and the surface tension has a different value in the parallel and transverse directions with respect to the magnetic field. We calculate the transverse and longitudinal surface tension for different values of the magnetic field and for quark matter drops with different sizes, from a few fm to the bulk limit. For baryon number densities between times the nuclear saturation density, the surface tension falls in the range MeV /fm. The largest contribution comes from strange quarks which have a surface tension an order of magnitude larger than the one for or quarks and more than two orders of magnitude larger than for electrons. Our results show that the total surface tension is quite insensitive to the size of the drop. We also find that the surface tensions in the transverse and parallel directions are almost unaffected by the magnetic field if is below GeV. Nevertheless, for higher values of , there is a significant increase in the parallel surface tension and a significant decrease in the transverse one with respect to the unmagnetized case.

Meaning of the field dependence of the renormalization scale in Higgs inflation

    Yuta Hamada🇯🇵 · Hikaru Kawai🇯🇵 · Yukari Nakanishi🇯🇵 · Kin-ya Oda🇯🇵

We consider the prescription dependence of the Higgs effective potential under the presence of general nonminimal couplings. We evaluate the fermion loop correction to the effective action in a simplified Higgs-Yukawa model whose path integral measure takes simple form either in the Jordan or Einstein frame. The resultant effective action becomes identical in both cases when we properly take into account the quartically divergent term coming from the change of measure. Working in the counterterm formalism, we clarify that the difference between the prescriptions I and II comes from the counter term to cancel the logarithmic divergence. This difference can be absorbed into the choice of tree-level potential from the infinitely many possibilities, including all the higher-dimensional terms. We also present another mechanism to obtain a flat potential by freezing the running of the effective quartic coupling for large field values, using the nonminimal coupling in the gauge kinetic function.

Quark Mass Correction to Chiral Separation Effect and Pseudoscalar Condensate

    Er-dong Guo🇨🇳 · Shu Lin🇨🇳

We derived an analytic structure of the quark mass correction to chiral separation effect (CSE) in small mass regime. We confirmed this structure by a D3/D7 holographic model study in a finite density, finite magnetic field background. The quark mass correction to CSE can be related to correlators of pseudo-scalar condensate, quark number density and quark condensate in static limit. We found scaling relations of these correlators with spatial momentum in the small momentum regime. They characterize medium responses to electric field, inhomogeneous quark mass and chiral shift. Beyond the small momentum regime, we found existence of normalizable mode, which possibly leads to formation of spiral phase. The normalizable mode exists beyond a critical magnetic field, whose magnitude decreases with quark chemical potential.

Two-photon-exchange effects in the unpolarized scattering within the hadronic model

The contribution from the intermediate is close to the results given by Ref. \cite{Tomalak2014} at the small and there is a sizeable difference when GeV (where is the four momentum transfer). The contributions from the and the intermediate states are much smaller than that from the intermediate at the small . In the kinematic region with GeV and GeV (where is the three momentum of initial muon at Lab frame), a naive expression for the TPE contributions is given, which can be used directly for other analysis.

Gauge covariance of the fermion Schwinger-Dyson equation in QED

    Shaoyang Jia🇺🇸 · M.R. Pennington🇺🇸

Any practical application of the Schwinger-Dyson equations to the study of -point Green's functions of a field theory requires truncations, the best known being finite order perturbation theory. Strong coupling studies require a different approach. In the case of QED, gauge covariance is a powerful constraint. By using a spectral representation for the massive fermion propagator in QED, we are able to show that the constraints imposed by the Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformations are linear operations on the spectral densities. Here we formally define these group operations and show with a couple of examples how in practice they provide a straightforward way to test the gauge covariance of any viable truncation of the Schwinger-Dyson equation for the fermion 2-point function.

On the width of N-Delta and Delta-Delta states

    J. A. Niskanen🇫🇮

It is seen by a coupled-channel calculation that in the two-baryon N-Delta or Delta-Delta system the width of the state is greatly diminished due to the relative kinetic energy of the two baryons, since the internal energy of the particles, available for pionic decay, is smaller. A similar state dependent effect arises from the centrifugal barrier in N-Delta or Delta-Delta systems with non-zero orbital angular momentum. The double-Delta width can become even smaller than the free width of a single Delta. This has some bearing to the interpretation of the d'(2380) resonance recently discovered at COSY.

Unitarity and Lee-Wick prescription at one loop level in the effective Myers-Pospelov electrodynamics: the annihilation

    Carlos M. Reyes🇨🇱 · L. F. Urrutia🇲🇽

We study perturbative unitarity in a Lorentz-symmetry-violating QED model with higher-order derivative operators in the light of the results of Lee and Wick to preserve unitarity in indefinite metric theories. Specifically, we consider the fermionic sector of the Myers-Pospelov model, which includes dimension-five operators, coupled to standard photons. We canonically quantize the model, paying attention to its effective character, and show that its Hamiltonian is stable, emphasizing the exact stage at which the indefinite metric appears and decomposes into a positive-metric sector and a negative-metric sector. Finally, we verify the optical theorem at the one-loop level in the annihilation channel of the forward-scattering process by applying the Lee-Wick prescription in which the states associated with the negative metric are left out from the asymptotic Hilbert space, but nevertheless are considered in the loop integration via the propagator.

Holographic black hole engineering at finite baryon chemical potential

I briefly review some thermodynamic and baryon transport results obtained from a bottom-up Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton holographic model engineered to describe the physics of the quark-gluon plasma at finite temperature and baryon density. The results for the equation of state, baryon susceptibilities, and the curvature of the crossover band are in quantitative agreement with the corresponding lattice QCD results with flavors and physical quark masses. Baryon diffusion is predicted to be suppressed by increasing the baryon chemical potential.

Influence of the vector interaction and an external magnetic field on the isentropes near the chiral critical end point

    Pedro Costa🇵🇹

The location of the critical end point (CEP) and the isentropic trajectories in the QCD phase diagram are investigated. We use the (2+1) NambuJona-Lasinio model with the Polyakov loop coupling for different scenarios, namely by imposing zero strange quark density, which is the case in the ultra relativistic heavy-ion collisions, and -equilibrium. The influence of strong magnetic fields and of the vector interaction on the isentropic trajectories around the CEP is discussed. It is shown that the vector interaction and the magnetic field, having opposite effects on the first-order transition, affect the isentropic trajectories differently: as the vector interaction increases, the first-order transition becomes weaker and the isentropes become smoother; when a strong magnetic field is considered, the first-order transition is strengthened and the isentropes are pushed to higher temperatures. No focusing of isentropes in region towards the CEP is seen.
