Phenomenological study of in the minimal model at LHC

    Balasubramaniam. K. M🇬🇧

The phenomenological study of neutral heavy gauge boson () of the minimal B-L extension was done on the dimuon production channel of the LHC. The study begins with the LEP-II constraints on searches, and the dimuon events are simulated at the parton level at the CM energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV and studied with an integrated luminosity of 1.21 and 20.5 respectively. Later, the ATLAS detector-specific cuts unique to the Muon Pairs are imposed followed by the signal-selection-cuts on the Invariant Mass of the dimuon which restrict the events that are to be passed for Signal-Background Analysis, that are finally compared with the ATLAS data, and accounted for no experimental detection of boson. It has been simulated further at the CM energy of 14 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 300 to predict a possible discovery of this B-L neutral-heavy gauge boson with a mass corresponding to 1.5 TeV and a coupling strength of 0.2 based on the signal-background analysis.

Nucleon structure functions in noncommutative space-time

    Ali Rafiei🇮🇷 · Zahra Rezaei🇮🇷 · Abolfazl Mirjalili🇮🇷

In the context of noncommutative space-time, we investigate the nucleon structure functions which plays an important role to identify the internal structure of nucleons. We use the corrected vertices and employ new vertices that appear in two approaches of noncommutativity and calculate the proton structure functions in terms of noncommutative tensor \theta_{\mu\nu}. To check our result, we plot the nucleon structure function (NSF), F_2(x), and compare it with experimental data and the result coming out from the GRV, GJR and CT10 parametrization models. We show that new vertex which is arising the noncommutativity correction will lead us to better consistency between theoretical result and experimental data for NSF. This consistency would be better at small values of x-Bjorken variable. To indicate and confirm the validity of our calculations, we also act conversely and obtain an lower bound for the numerical values of \Lambda_{NC} scale which are corresponding to the recent reports.

Towards an automated tool to evaluate the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density on quarkonium, D and B meson production in proton-nucleus collisions

    Jean-Philippe Lansberg🇫🇷 · Hua-Sheng Shao🇨🇭

We propose a simple and model-independent procedure to account for the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density as encoded in nuclear collinear PDF sets on two-to-two partonic hard processes in proton-nucleus collisions. This applies to a good approximation to quarkonium, D and B meson production, generically referred to H. Our procedure consists in parametrising the square of the parton scattering amplitude, A_{gg -> H X} and constraining it from the proton-proton data. Doing so, we have been able to compute the corresponding nuclear modification factors for J/psi, Upsilon and D^0 as a function of y and P_T at sqrt(s_NN)=5 and 8 TeV in the kinematics of the various LHC experiments in a model independent way. It is of course justified since the most important ingredient in such evaluations is the probability of each kinematical configuration. Our computations for D mesons can also be extended to B meson production. To further illustrate the potentiality of the tool, we provide --for the first time-- predictions for the nuclear modification factor for eta_c production in pPb collisions at the LHC.

associated production at the LHC within the littlest Higgs model at NLO+NLL accuracy

    Chen Liang-Wen🇨🇳 · Ma Wen-Gan🇨🇳 · Zhang Ren-You🇨🇳 · Li Xiao-Zhou🇨🇳 · Wang Yong🇨🇳

We consider the associated production at the LHC in the littlest Higgs model (LHM) and study the corrections of the transverse momentum resummation and threshold resummation at the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy and the fixed-order prediction at the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) including the contribution from the one-loop-induced -fusion channel. The QCD NLO+NLL effects on the integrated cross section and the distributions of transverse momentum and invariant mass of the system for the production in the LHM are discussed. The distributions of transverse momentum and invariant mass of the system are evaluated by means of the transverse momentum resummation and threshold resummation, respectively. We estimate their scale uncertainties and find that the predictions obtained at the QCD NLO+NLL accuracy are much more reliable than those using the pure NLO approach. We see also that the relative deviation between the results in the LHM and the standard model is considerably reduced by the resummation effects, but still observable.

Pseudo Nambu-Goldstone modes in neutron stars

    Toru Kojo🇨🇳

If quarks and gluons are either gapped or confined in neutron stars (NSs), the most relevant light modes are Nambu-Goldstone (NG) modes. We study NG modes within a schematic quark model whose parameters at high density are constrained by the two-solar mass constraint. Our model has the color-flavor-locked phase at high density, with the effective couplings as strong as in hadron physics. We find that strong coupling effects make NG modes more massive than in weak coupling predictions, and would erase several phenomena caused by the stressed pairings in mismatched Fermi surfaces. For instance, we found that charged kaons, which are dominated by diquark and anti-diquark components, are not light enough to condense at strong coupling. Implications for gravitational wave signals for NS-NS mergers are also briefly discussed.

We employ the method of differential equations to compute the relevant integrals and express them in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms. Our result provides one of the necessary inputs for the computation of mixed three-loop QCD-electroweak corrections to .

The next challenge for neutrinos: the mass ordering

    Luca Stanco🇮🇹

Neutrino physics is nowadays receiving more and more attention as a possible source of information for the long--standing investigation of new physics beyond the Standard Model. This is also supported by the recent change of perspectives in neutrino researches since the discovery period is almost over and we are entering the phase of precise measurements. Despite the limited statistics collected for some variables, the three--flavour neutrino framework seems well strengthening. However some relevant pieces of this framework are still missing. The amount of a possible CP violation phase and the mass ordering are among the most challenging and probably those that will be known in the near future. In this paper we will discuss these two correlated issues and a very recent new statistical method introduced to get reliable results on the mass ordering.

Monte Carlo Implementation of Polarized Hadronization

    Hrayr H. Matevosyan🇦🇺 · Aram Kotzinian🇦🇲 · Anthony W. Thomas🇦🇺

We study the polarized quark hadronization in a Monte Carlo (MC) framework based on the recent extension of the quark-jet framework, where a self-consistent treatment of the quark polarization transfer in a sequential hadronization picture has been presented. Here, we first adopt this approach for MC simulations of hadronization process with finite number of produced hadrons, expressing the relevant probabilities in terms of the eight leading twist quark-to-quark transverse momentum dependent (TMD) splitting functions (SFs) for elementary transition. We present explicit expressions for the unpolarized and Collins fragmentation functions (FFs) of unpolarized hadrons emitted at rank two. Further, we demonstrate that all the current spectator-type model calculations of the leading twist quark-to-quark TMD SFs violate the positivity constraints, and propose quark model based ansatz for these input functions that circumvents the problem. We validate our MC framework by explicitly proving the absence of unphysical azimuthal modulations of the computed polarized FFs, and by precisely reproducing the earlier derived explicit results for rank two pions. Finally, we present the full results for pion unpolarized and Collins FFs, as well as the corresponding analyzing powers from high statistics MC simulations with a large number of produced hadrons for two different model input elementary SFs. The results for both sets of input functions exhibit the same general features of opposite signed Collins function for favored and unfavored channels at large , and at the same time demonstrate the flexibility of the quark-jet framework by producing significantly different dependences of the results at mid- to low- for the two model inputs.

Instability of strong magnetic field and neutrino magnetic dipole moment

    Hyun Kyu Lee🇰🇷

Vacuum instability of the strong electromagnetic field has been discussed since long time ago. The instability of the strong electric field due to creation of electron pairs is one of the examples, which is known as Schwinger process. What matters are the coupling of particles to the electromagnetic field and the mass of the particle to be produced. The critical electric field for electrons in the minimal coupling is ~ m^2/e . Spin 1/2 neutral particles but with magnetic dipole moments can interact with the electromagnetic field through Pauli coupling. The instability of the particular vacuum under the strong magnetic field can be formulated as the emergence of imaginary parts of the effective potential. In this talk, the development of the imaginary part in the effective potential as a function of the magnetic field strength is discussed for the configurations of the uniform magnetic field and the inhomogeneous magnetic field. Neutrinos are the lightest particle(if not photon or gluon) in the "standard model", of which electromagnetic property is poorly known experimentally. Recently the observation of neutrino oscillation shows the necessity of neutrino masses. It implies that the standard model is subjected to be modified such that non-trivial electromagnetic structure of neutrino should be reconsidered although they are assigned to be neutral. And the possibility of anomalous electromagnetic form factor is an open question theoretically and experimentally. In this talk, the implication of non-vanishing magnetic dipole moment of neutrinos is also discussed: the instability of the strong magnetic field and the enhancement of neutrino production in high energy collider experiments.

Pion Electromagnetic Form Factor at Lower and Higher Momentum Transfer

    J. P. B. C. de Melo🇧🇷 · Rômulo Moreira Moita🇧🇷 · Kazuo Tsushima (Laboratório de Física Teórica e Computacional, LFTC, Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul)🇧🇷

The pion electromagnetic form factor is calculated at lower and higher momentum transfer in order to explore constituent quark models and the differences among those models. In particular, the light-front constituent quark model is utilized here to calculate the pion electromagnetic form factor at lower and higher energies. The matrix elements of the electromagnetic current, are calculated with both "plus" and "minus" components of the electromagnetic current in the light-front. Further, the electromagnetic form factor is compared with other models in the literature and experimental data.

Probing a pseudoscalar at the LHC in light of and muon g-2 excesses

    Lei Wang🇨🇳 · Jin Min Yang🇨🇳 · Yang Zhang🇨🇳

We study the excesses of and muon in the framework of a two-Higgs-doublet model with top quark flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) couplings. Considering the relevant theoretical and experimental constraints, we find that the and muon excesses can be simultaneously explained in a parameter space allowed by the constraints. In such a parameter space the pseudoscalar () has a mass between 20 GeV and 150 GeV so that it can be produced from the top quark FCNC decay . Focusing on its dominant decay , we perform a detailed simulation on and find that the upper limits from a data set of 30 (100) fb at the 13 TeV LHC can mostly (entirely) exclude such a parameter space.

Alternative Schemes of Predicting Lepton Mixing Parameters from Discrete Flavor and CP Symmetry

    Jun-Nan Lu🇨🇳 · Gui-Jun Ding🇨🇳

We suggest two alternative schemes to predict lepton mixing angles as well as violating phases from a discrete flavor symmetry group combined with symmetry. In the first scenario, the flavor and symmetry is broken to the residual groups of the structure in the neutrino and charged lepton sectors. The resulting lepton mixing matrix depends on two free parameters and . This type of breaking pattern is extended to the quark sector. In the second scheme, an abelian subgroup contained in the flavor group is preserved by the charged lepton mass matrix and the neutrino mass matrix is invariant under a single remnant transformation, all lepton mixing parameter are determined in terms of three free parameters . We derive the most general criterion to determine whether two distinct residual symmetries lead to the same mixing pattern if the redefinition of the free parameters and is taken into account. We have studied the lepton mixing patterns arising from the flavor group and symmetry which are subsequently broken to all of the possible residual symmetries discussed in this work.

Low-energy effects in a higher-derivative gravity model with real and complex massive poles

    Antonio Accioly🇧🇷 · Breno L. Giacchini🇧🇷 · Ilya L. Shapiro🇧🇷

The most simple superrenormalizable model of quantum gravity is based on the general local covariant six-derivative action. In addition to graviton such a theory has massive scalar and tensor modes. It was shown recently that in the case when the massive poles emerge in complex conjugate pairs, the theory has also unitary -matrix and hence can be seen as a candidate to be a consistent quantum gravity theory. In the present work we construct the modified Newton potential and explore the gravitational light bending in a general six-derivative theory, including the most interesting case of complex massive poles. In the case of the light deflection the results are obtained within classical and semiclassical approaches.

Averaged Null Energy Condition from Causality

    Thomas Hartman🇺🇸 · Sandipan Kundu🇺🇸 · Amirhossein Tajdini🇺🇸

Unitary, Lorentz-invariant quantum field theories in flat spacetime obey microcausality: commutators vanish at spacelike separation. For interacting theories in more than two dimensions, we show that this implies that the averaged null energy, , must be positive. This non-local operator appears in the operator product expansion of local operators in the lightcone limit, and therefore contributes to -point functions. We derive a sum rule that isolates this contribution and is manifestly positive. The argument also applies to certain higher spin operators other than the stress tensor, generating an infinite family of new constraints of the form . These lead to new inequalities for the coupling constants of spinning operators in conformal field theory, which include as special cases (but are generally stronger than) the existing constraints from the lightcone bootstrap, deep inelastic scattering, conformal collider methods, and relative entropy. We also comment on the relation to the recent derivation of the averaged null energy condition from relative entropy, and suggest a more general connection between causality and information-theoretic inequalities in QFT.

Konishi Form Factor at Three Loop in SYM

We present the first results on the third order corrections to on-shell form factor (FF) of the Konishi operator in supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory using Feynman diagrammatic approach in modified dimensional reduction () scheme. We show that it satisfies KG equation in scheme while the result obtained in four dimensional helicity (FDH) scheme needs to be suitably modified not only to satisfy the KG equation but also to get the correct ultraviolet (UV) anomalous dimensions. We find that the cusp, soft and collinear anomalous dimensions obtained to third order are same as those of the FF of the half-BPS operator confirming the universality of the infrared (IR) structures of on-shell form factors. In addition, the highest transcendental terms of the FF of Konishi operator are identical to those of half-BPS operator indicating the probable existence of deeper structure of the on-shell FF. We also confirm the UV anomalous dimensions of Konishi operator up to third order providing a consistency check on the both UV and universal IR structures in .

These lectures are centred around tree-level scattering amplitudes in pure Yang-Mills theories, the most prominent example is given by the tree-level gluon amplitudes of QCD. I will discuss several ways of computing these amplitudes, illustrating in this way recent developments in perturbative quantum field theory. Topics covered in these lectures include colour decomposition, spinor and twistor methods, off- and on-shell recursion, MHV amplitudes and MHV expansion, the Grassmannian and the amplituhedron, the scattering equations and the CHY representation. At the end of these lectures there will be an outlook on the relation between pure Yang-Mills amplitudes and scattering amplitudes in perturbative quantum gravity.

    Runaway Relaxion Monodromy

    Liam McAllister🇺🇸 · Pedro Schwaller🇩🇪 · Geraldine Servant🇩🇪 · John Stout🇺🇸 · Alexander Westphal🇩🇪

We examine the relaxion mechanism in string theory. An essential feature is that an axion winds over fundamental periods. In string theory realizations via axion monodromy, this winding number corresponds to a physical charge carried by branes or fluxes. We show that this monodromy charge backreacts on the compact space, ruining the structure of the relaxion action. In particular, the barriers generated by strong gauge dynamics have height , so the relaxion does not stop when the Higgs acquires a vev. Backreaction of monodromy charge can therefore spoil the relaxion mechanism. We comment on the limitations of technical naturalness arguments in this context.

    Cosmology with a light ghost

    Mikhail M. Ivanov🇨🇭 · Anna A. Tokareva🇷🇺

We study the creation and evolution of cosmological perturbations in renormalizable quadratic gravity with a Weyl term. We adopt a prescription that implies the stability of the vacuum at the price of introducing a massive spin-two ghost state, leading to the loss of unitarity. The theory may still be predictive regardless the interpretation of non-unitary processes provided that their rate is negligible compared to the Universe expansion rate. This implies that the ghost is effectively stable. In such a setup, there are two scalar degrees of freedom excited during inflation. The first one is the usual curvature perturbation whose power spectrum appears to coincide with that of single-field inflation. The second one is a scalar component of the ghost encoded in the shift vector of the metric in the uniform inflaton gauge. The amplitudes of primordial tensor and vector perturbations are strongly suppressed. After inflation the ghost field starts to oscillate and its energy density shortly becomes dominant in the Universe. For all ghost masses allowed by laboratory constraints ghosts should have "overclosed" the Universe at temperatures higher than that of primordial nucleosynthesis. Thus, the model with the light Weyl ghost is ruled out.

    Topology of the Electroweak Vacua

    Ben Gripaios🇬🇧 · Oscar Randal-Williams🇬🇧

In the Standard Model, the electroweak symmetry is broken by a complex, -doublet Higgs field and the vacuum manifold has the topology of a 3-sphere. We remark that there exist theoretical alternatives that are locally isomorphic, but in which the vacuum manifold is homeomorphic to an arbitrary non-trivial principal -bundle over a 2-sphere. These alternatives have non-trivial fundamental group and thus feature topologically-stable electroweak strings. An alternative based on the manifold (with fundamental group ) allows custodial protection of gauge boson masses and their couplings to fermions, but, in common with all alternatives to , has a problem with fermion masses.

    Gauge engineering and propagators

    Axel Maas🇦🇹

Beyond perturbation theory gauge-fixing becomes more involved due to the Gribov-Singer ambiguity: The appearance of additional gauge copies requires to define a procedure how to handle them. For the case of Landau gauge the structure and properties of these additional gauge copies will be investigated. Based on these properties gauge conditions are constructed to account for these gauge copies. The dependence of the propagators on the choice of these complete gauge-fixings will then be investigated using lattice gauge theory for Yang-Mills theory. It is found that the implications for the infrared, and to some extent mid-momentum behavior, can be substantial. In going beyond the Yang-Mills case it turns out that the influence of matter can generally not be neglected. This will be briefly discussed for various types of matter.

SU(3) Polyakov linear-sigma model: Conductivity and viscous properties of QCD matter in thermal medium

Abdel Nasser Tawfik🇪🇬 · Abdel Magied Diab (Egyptian Ctr. Theor. Phys., Cairo, WLCAPP, Cairo)🇪🇬 · M. T. Hussein (Cairo U.)🇪🇬

In mean field approximation, the grand canonical potential of SU(3) Polyakov linear- model (PLSM) is analysed for chiral phase-transition, and and for deconfinement order-parameters, and of light- and strange-quarks, respectively. Various PLSM parameters are determined from the assumption of global minimization of the real part of the potential. Then, we have calculated the subtracted condensates (). All these results are compared with recent lattice QCD simulations. Accordingly, essential PLSM parameters are determined. The modelling of the relaxation time is utilized in estimating the conductivity properties of the QCD matter in thermal medium, namely electric [] and heat [] conductivities. We found that the PLSM results on the electric conductivity and on the specific heat agree well with the available lattice QCD calculations. Also, we have calculated bulk and shear viscosities normalized to the thermal entropy, and , respectively, and compared them with recent lattice QCD. Predictions for and are introduced. We conclude that our results on various transport properties show some essential ingredients, that these properties likely come up with, in studying QCD matter in thermal and dense medium.
