Reevaluation of thermonuclear reaction rate of 50Fe(p,gamma)51Co

    L.P. Zhang🇨🇳 · J.J. He · W.D. Chai · S.Q. Hou🇺🇸 · L.Y. Zhang

The thermonuclear rate of the 50Fe(p,gamma)51Co reaction in the Type I X-ray bursts (XRBs) temperature range has been reevaluated based on a recent precise mass measurement at CSRe lanzhou, where the proton separation energy Sp=142+/-77 keV has been determined firstly for the 51Co nucleus. Comparing to the previous theoretical predictions, the experimental Sp value has much smaller uncertainty. Based on the nuclear shell model and mirror nuclear structure information, we have calculated two sets of thermonuclear rates for the 50Fe(p,gamma)51Co reaction by utilizing the experimental Sp value. It shows that the statistical-model calculations are not ideally applicable for this reaction primarily because of the low density of low-lying excited states in 51Co. In this work, we recommend that a set of new reaction rate based on the mirror structure of 51Cr should be incorporated in the future astrophysical network calculations.

Excitation functions for(d,x)reactions on Cs up to MeV

    F. Tárkányi · F. Ditrói · S. Takács · A. Hermanne · M. Baba · A.V. Ignatyuk

In the frame of a systematic study of excitation functions of deuteron induced reactions the excitation functions of the Cs(d,x)Ba, Cs and Xe nuclear reactions were measured up to 40 MeV deuteron energies by using the stacked foil irradiation technique and -ray spectroscopy of activated samples. The results were compared with calculations performed with the theoretical nuclear reaction codes ALICE-IPPE-D, EMPIRE II-D and TALYS calculation listed in the TENDL-2014 library. A moderate agreement was obtained. Based on the integral yields deduced from our measured cross sections, production of Cs via the Cs(d,4n)Ba Cs reaction and Ba via Cs(d,2n) reactions is discussed in comparison with other charged particle production routes.

    - conversion in upcoming LFV experiments

    Tanja Geib🇩🇪 · Alexander Merle🇩🇪 · Kai Zuber🇩🇪

We present an illustrative discussion of the physics potential of - conversion. We point out that this process, although much less frequently studied than the related but much more popular processes of - conversion and neutrinoless double beta decay, in fact is a promising alternative possibility to detect both lepton flavour and number violation. However, for this goal to be reached, a combined effort of experiments and theory, both in nuclear and particle physics, is necessary to advance. The aim of this paper is to be an "appetiser" to trigger such an initiative.

Probing gluon saturation with next-to-leading order photon production at central rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions

    Sanjin Benic🇭🇷 · Kenji Fukushima🇯🇵 · Oscar Garcia-Montero🇩🇪 · Raju Venugopalan🇺🇸

We compute the cross section for photons emitted from sea quarks in proton-nucleus collisions at collider energies. The computation is performed within the dilute-dense kinematics of the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory. Albeit the result obtained is formally at next-to-leading order in the CGC power counting, it provides the dominant contribution for central rapidities. We observe that the inclusive photon cross section is proportional to all-twist Wilson line correlators in the nucleus. These correlators also appear in quark-pair production; unlike the latter, photon production is insensitive to hadronization uncertainties and therefore more sensitive to multi-parton correlations in the gluon saturation regime of QCD. We demonstrate that and collinear factorized expressions for inclusive photon production are obtained as leading twist approximations to our result. In particular, the collinearly factorized expression is directly sensitive to the nuclear gluon distribution at small . Other results of interest include the realization of the Low-Burnett-Kroll soft photon theorem in the CGC framework and a comparative study of how the photon amplitude is obtained in Lorenz and light-cone gauges.
