The activation cross sections of (d,p), (d,2n), (d,3n), and (d,2p) reactions on 63,65Cu were measured in the energy range from 4 to 20 MeV using the stacked-foils technique. Then, following the available elastic-scattering data analysis that provided the optical potential for reaction cross sections calculations, an increased effort has been devoted to the breakup mechanism, the direct reaction stripping, and the pre-equilibrium and compound-nucleus cross section calculations, corrected for the breakup and stripping decrease of the total reaction cross section. The overall agreement between the measured and calculated deuteron activation cross sections proves the correctness of the nuclear mechanisms account, next to the simultaneous analysis of the elastic-scattering and reaction data.

    New flow observables

    Rajeev S. Bhalerao🇮🇳 · Matthew Luzum🇫🇷 · Jean-Yves Ollitrault🇫🇷

Event-by-event fluctuations of the initial transverse density profile result in a collective flow pattern which also fluctuates event by event. We propose a number of new correlation observables to characterize these fluctuations and discuss how they should be analyzed experimentally. We argue that most of these quantities can be measured at RHIC and LHC.

Preliminary Results from Integrating Compton Photon Polarimetry in Hall A of Jefferson Lab

    D. Parno🇺🇸 · M. Friend🇺🇸 · F. Benmokhtar🇺🇸 · G. Franklin🇺🇸 · R. Michaels🇺🇸 · S. Nanda🇺🇸 · B. Quinn🇺🇸 · P. Souder🇺🇸

A wide range of nucleon and nuclear structure experiments in Jefferson Lab's Hall A require precise, continuous measurements of the polarization of the electron beam. In our Compton polarimeter, electrons are scattered off photons in a Fabry-Perot cavity; by measuring an asymmetry in the integrated signal of the scattered photons detected in a GSO crystal, we can make non-invasive, continuous measurements of the beam polarization. Our goal is to achieve 1% statistical error within two hours of running. We discuss the design and commissioning of an upgrade to this apparatus, and report preliminary results for experiments conducted at beam energies from 3.5 to 5.9 GeV and photon rates from 5 to 100 kHz.

Phenomenological analysis of angular correlations in 7 TeV proton-proton collisions from the CMS experiment

    R. L. Ray🇺🇸

A phenomenological analysis is presented of recent two-particle angular correlation data on relative pseudorapidity () and azimuth reported by the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Collaboration for = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions. The data are described with an empirical jet-like model developed for similar angular correlation measurements obtained from heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The same-side (small relative azimuth), -extended correlation structure, referred to as the {\em ridge}, is compared with three phenomenological correlation structures suggested by theoretical analysis. These include additional angular correlations due to soft gluon radiation in partonic processes, a one-dimensional same-side correlation ridge on azimuth motivated for example by color-glass condensate models, and an azimuth quadrupole similar to that required to describe heavy ion angular correlations. The quadrupole model provides the best overall description of the CMS data, including the ridge, based on minimization in agreement with previous studies. Implications of these results with respect to possible mechanisms for producing the CMS same-side correlation ridge are discussed.
