On the viability of a light scalar spectrum for 3-3-1 models

    A. L. Cherchiglia🇧🇷 · O. L. G. Peres🇧🇷

In this work we study an effective version of the 3-3-1 model, in which the particle content is the same of the 2HDM. We show that the inherited structure from the gauge group has a series of consequences, the most relevant one being the prediction of the masses of the neutral scalar to be of the order or lower than the mass of the charged scalar. Given current constraints from collider searches, B-physics, as well as theoretical constraints such as perturbativity of quartic couplings and stability of the scalar potential, we find that the new scalars cannot be lighter than 350 GeV.

Is the charged vecton boson seen by the CDF II the standard model one?

    O. P. Ravinez🇵🇪 · Henry Diaz🇵🇪 · V. Pleitez🇧🇷

After the CDF II results, we can ask ourselves, have they observed the vector boson of the standard model? or have they discovered the effect of new physics? We show that, in electroweak models with gauge symmetry, it is possible to accommodate, at tree level, the value of the mass of the charged vector boson obtained by the CDF-II. A shift in the mass of the lightest neutral vector boson is also predicted in some versions of the model.

Generalized parton distributions in spin-3/2 particles

    Dongyan Fu🇨🇳 · Bao-Dong Sun🇨🇳 · Yubing Dong🇨🇳

Generalized parton distribution functions (GPDs) of spin-3/2 particles are defined for the first time in this paper. Eight unpolarized and eight polarized GPDs are found. In the forward limit of GPDs, the structure functions and parton distribution functions are obtained. Then, the sum rules that connect the GPDs with the electromagnetic and gravitational form factors are explicitly displayed. Finally, the relations between GPDs and the helicity amplitudes of the system are derived.

    Laser-induced proton decay

    M. Ouhammou🇲🇦 · M. Ouali🇲🇦 · S. Taj🇲🇦 · R. Benbrik🇲🇦 · B. Manaut🇲🇦

In this research paper, we investigate the decay of the proton into neutron, positron and electron neutrino in the presence of an external electromagnetic field with circular polarization. Different physical quantities related to this decay process, such as proton's decay rate and its lifetime, are calculated based on the S-matrix approach. The proton and positron are treated as Dirac-Volkov states, while the neutron and electron neutrino are free-states. We have found that, though it can not occur in vacuum, the proton's decay process into neutron, positron and electron neutrino becomes possible in the presence of laser field with high intensities near or close to the Schwinger limit. In addition, near this limit and for some frequencies, the proton's lifetime can be comparable to that of the neutron, and the required laser strength, from which this decay becomes possible, depends on the chosen laser source.

Investigations on the charmless decays of in intermediate meson loops model

    Yan Wang🇨🇳 · Qi Wu🇨🇳 · Gang Li🇨🇳 · Wen-Hua Qin🇨🇳 · Xiao-Hai Liu🇨🇳 · Chun-Sheng An🇨🇳 · Ju-Jun Xie🇨🇳

The charmless decay processes of provide us a good platform to study the nature and the decay mechanism of . Based on a molecular nature of as a bound state, we have investigated the charmless decays and via intermediate meson loops, where and stand for light vector and pseudoscalar mesons, respectively. We discuss three cases, i.e., pure neutral components (), isospin singlet () and neutral components dominant (), where is a phase angle describing the proportion of neutral and charged constituents. The proportion of neutral and charged constituent have an influence on the decay widths of and . With the coupling constant of to the channel obtained under the molecule ansatz of resonance, the predicted decay widths of are about tens of keVs, while the decay width can reach a few hundreds of keVs for . The dependence of these ratios between different decay modes of and to the mixing angle is also investigated. It is expected that the theoretical calculations here can be tested by future experiments.

The anomalous shift of the weak boson mass and the quintessence electroweak axion

    Weikang Lin🇨🇳 · Tsutomu T. Yanagida🇨🇳 · Norimi Yokozaki🇨🇳

One of the simplest ways to account for the observed W-boson mass shift is to introduce the triplet Higgs boson with zero hypercharge, whose vacuum expectation value is about 3 GeV. If the triplet is heavy enough at TeV, it essentially contributes only to parameter without any conflict to the observation. The presence of a complex triplet Higgs boson raises the gauge coupling constant to at the Planck scale. Thanks to this larger gauge coupling constant, we show that the electroweak axion vacuum energy explains the observed cosmological constant provided that the axion field is located near the hill top of the potential at present.

Neutrino non-radiative decay and the diffuse supernova neutrino background

    Pilar Ivanez-Ballesteros (APC, Paris)🇫🇷 · M. Cristina Volpe (APC, Paris)🇫🇷

We revisit the possibility that neutrinos undergo non-radiative decay. We investigate the potential to extract information on the neutrino lifetime-to-mass ratio from the diffuse supernova neutrino background. To this aim, we explicitly consider the current uncertainties on the core-collapse supernova rate and the fraction of failed supernovae. We present predictions in a full 3 neutrino framework in the absence and presence of neutrino non-radiative decay, for the Super-Kamiokande+Gd, the JUNO, the Hyper-Kamiokande, and the DUNE experiments, that should observe the diffuse supernova neutrino background in the near future. Our results show the importance of a 3 neutrino treatment of neutrino decay and of identifying the neutrino mass ordering to break possible degeneracies between DSNB predictions in the presence of decay and standard physics.

BAU production in the -breaking Standard Model

    Chilong Lin🇰🇷

CP violation (CPV) and the baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU) are two of the most significant unresolved problems in physics. This article presents further research on the CPV problem in the standard model (SM) with thirty-two candidate sets of the ten "natural" parameters that exhibit the same CKM performance. These parameters are considered "natural" because they consist solely of the Yukawa couplings and the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the unique Higgs doublet in the SM. We then investigate the CPV problem and the BAU problem using the Jarlskog measure of CPV, , given that CP symmetry is violated following the breakdowns of symmetries. Subsequently, we perform numerical tests in a simplified scenario where eight of the ten parameters are fixed, and the remaining two parameters are allowed to vary from their -symmetric values to their current values in all thirty-two parameter sets. To estimate the enhancement of CPV in such processes, we propose a ratio between the running and its current value, denoted by , which is approximately . In all thirty-two cases, the three-dimensional (3D) plots of exhibit many regions that stick out of the plane, especially in regions very close to . These results demonstrate that the -breaking Standard Model is already sufficient to violate CP symmetry explicitly and generate a significant amount of BAU. Furthermore, it solves existing problems without creating new ones.

Neutron Star Heating in Dark Matter Models for Muon g-2 with Scalar Lepton Partners up to the TeV Scale

    Jan Tristram Acuña🇮🇹 · Patrick Stengel🇮🇹 · Piero Ullio🇮🇹

We investigate the kinetic heating of neutron stars due to dark matter scattering in minimal models with scalar lepton partners mediating interactions which can account for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In particular, such models in which the dark matter is a thermally produced Majorana fermion can be extremely difficult to detect at conventional searches. We demonstrate that future infrared observations of an old neutron star population could definitively probe the entire parameter space of this scenario.

    Kaon spectrum revisited

    U. Taboada-Nieto🇪🇸 · P.G. Ortega🇪🇸 · D.R. Entem🇪🇸 · F. Fernández🇪🇸 · J. Segovia🇪🇸

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has recently approved a world-unique QCD facility in which an updated version of the external M2 beam line of the CERN SPS in conjunction with a universal spectrometer of the COMPASS experiment is used. One of its main goals is to use highly intense and energetic kaon beams to map out the complete spectrum of excited kaons with an unprecedented precision; having a broad impact not only on low-energy QCD phenomenology, but also on many high-energy particle processes where excited kaons appear, such as the study of CP violation in heavy-meson decays studied at LHCb and Belle~II. In support of the experimental effort, the kaon spectrum is computed herein using a constituent quark model which has been successfully applied to a wide range of hadronic observables, from light to heavy quark sectors, and thus the model parameters are completely constrained. The model's prediction can be used as a template against which to compare the already collected data and future experimental findings, in order to distinguish between conventional and exotic kaon states. We also compare our results with those available in the literature in order to provide some general statements, common to all calculations.

Drell-Yan production in third-generation gauge vector leptoquark models at NLO+PS in QCD

Motivated by the long-standing hints of lepton-flavour non-universality in the and channels, we study Drell-Yan ditau production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In the context of models with third-generation gauge vector leptoquarks (LQs), we calculate the complete corrections to the process, achieving next-to-leading order (NLO) plus parton shower (NLOPS) accuracy using the POWHEG method. We provide a dedicated Monte Carlo code that evaluates the NLO QCD corrections on-the-fly in the event generation and use it to study the numerical impact of NLOPS corrections on the kinematic distributions that enter the existing experimental searches for non-resonant ditau final states. Based on our phenomenological analysis we derive NLO accurate constraints on the masses and couplings of third-generation gauge vector LQs using the latest LHC ditau search results corresponding to an integrated luminosity of around of proton-proton collisions at . The presented NLOPS generator allows for an improved signal modelling, making it an essential tool for future ATLAS and CMS searches for vector LQs in final states at LHC Run III and beyond.

Discovering QCD-Coupled Axion Dark Matter with Polarization Haloscopes

    Asher Berlin🇺🇸 · Kevin Zhou🇺🇸

In the presence of QCD axion dark matter, atoms acquire time-dependent electric dipole moments. This effect gives rise to an oscillating current in a nuclear spin-polarized dielectric, which can resonantly excite an electromagnetic mode of a microwave cavity. We show that with existing technology such a "polarization haloscope" can explore orders of magnitude of new parameter space for QCD-coupled axions. If any cavity haloscope detects a signal from the axion-photon coupling, an upgraded polarization haloscope has the unique ability to test whether it arises from the QCD axion.

Using nonlinear Breit-Wheeler to test nonlinear vacuum birefringence

    O. Borysov🇩🇪 · B. Heinemann🇩🇪 · A. Ilderton🇬🇧 · B. King🇬🇧 · A. Potylitsyn🇩🇪

Quantum electrodynamics predicts that the quantum vacuum is birefringent, but due to the very small cross-section this is yet to be confirmed by experiment. Vacuum birefringence arises as the elastic part of photon-photon scattering; the inelastic part is Breit-Wheeler pair-production. We outline how measurements of the photon-polarised nonlinear Breit-Wheeler process can be used to infer a measurement of nonlinear vacuum birefringence. As an example scenario, we calculate the accuracy of such a measurement for parameters anticipated at upcoming laser-particle experiments.

    Axion detection with phonon-polaritons revisited

    David J. E. Marsh🇬🇧 · Jamie I. McDonald🇧🇪 · Alexander J. Millar🇸🇪 · Jan Schütte-Engel🇺🇸

In the presence of a background magnetic field, axion dark matter induces an electric field and can thus excite phonon-polaritons in suitable materials. We revisit the calculation of the axion-photon conversion power output from such materials, accounting for finite volume effects, and material losses. Our calculation shows how phonon-polaritons can be converted to propagating photons at the material boundary, offering a route to detecting the signal. Using the dielectric functions of GaAs, AlO, and SiO, a fit to our loss model leads to a signal of lower magnitude than previous calculations. We demonstrate how knowledge of resonances in the dielectric function can directly be used to calculate the sensitivity of any material to axion dark matter. We argue that a combination of low losses encountered at K temperatures and near future improvements in detector dark count allow one to probe the QCD axion in the mass range meV. This provides further impetus to examine novel materials and further develop detectors in the THz regime. We also discuss possible tuning methods to scan the axion mass.

Asymptotic Accelerated Expansion in String Theory and the Swampland

    José Calderón-Infante🇪🇸 · Ignacio Ruiz🇪🇸 · Irene Valenzuela🇪🇸

We study whether the universal runaway behaviour of stringy scalar potentials towards infinite field distance limits can produce an accelerated expanding cosmology à la quintessence. We identify a loophole to some proposed bounds that forbid such asymptotic (at parametric control) accelerated expansion in 4d supergravities, by considering several terms of the potential competing asymptotically. We then analyse concrete string theory examples coming from F-theory flux compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds, extending previous results by going beyond weak string coupling to different infinite distance limits in the complex structure moduli space. We find some potential candidates to yield asymptotic accelerated expansion with a flux potential satisfying along its gradient flow. However, whether this truly describes an accelerated expanding cosmology remains as an open question until full moduli stabilization including the Kahler moduli is studied. Finally, we also reformulate the condition for forbidding asymptotic accelerated expansion as a convex hull de Sitter conjecture which resembles a convex hull scalar WGC for the membranes generating the flux potential. This provides a pictorial way to quickly determine the asymptotic gradient flow trajectory in multi-moduli setups and the value of along it.

This approach however, gets affected by biased estimates of -point correlation functions whose effects can significantly hinder probe of finite density QCD. We present an unbiased exponential resummation formalism, which can reproduce the Taylor series up to the desired order in , besides retaining the original form of the all-order resummation estimate of QCD partition function.

We report a measurement of cumulants and correlation functions of event-by-event proton multiplicity distributions from fixed-target Au+Au collisions at = 3 GeV measured by the STAR experiment. Protons are identified within the rapidity () and transverse momentum () region and GeV/ in the center-of-mass frame. A systematic analysis of the proton cumulants and correlation functions up to sixth-order as well as the corresponding ratios as a function of the collision centrality, , and are presented. The effect of pileup and initial volume fluctuations on these observables and the respective corrections are discussed in detail. The results are compared to calculations from the hadronic transport UrQMD model as well as a hydrodynamic model. In the most central 5\% collisions, the value of proton cumulant ratio is negative, drastically different from the values observed in Au+Au collisions at higher energies. Compared to model calculations including Lattice QCD, a hadronic transport model, and a hydrodynamic model, the strong suppression in the ratio of at 3 GeV Au+Au collisions indicates an energy regime dominated by hadronic interactions.

Threshold photoproduction of neutral pions off protons in nuclear model with explicit mesons

We apply the nuclear model with explicit mesons to photoproduction of neutral pions off protons at the threshold. In this model the nucleons do not interact with each other via a potential but rather emit and absorb mesons that are treated explicitly on equal footing with the nucleons. We calculate the total cross section of the reaction for energies close to threshold and compare the calculations with available experimental data. We show that the model is able to reproduce the experimental data and determine the range of the parameters where the model is compatible with the experiment.

Corrections to the instanton configuration as baryon in holographic QCD

    Si-wen Li🇨🇳 · Hao-qian Li🇨🇳 · Sen-kai Luo🇨🇳

In this work, we first derive the corrections to the instanton configuration of the flavored gauge field in the D4-D8 model with generic flavor numbers. Then, as the instanton configuration on the D8-branes represents equivalently baryon in this model, keeping our corrections in hand, we systemically study the spectrum of baryon, heavy-light baryon or heavy-light meson and find it is possible to fit the experimental data with the meson data in this model. Besides, we briefly outline how to include the interaction of glueball and heavy-light meson or baryon with our corrections, evaluate numerically the decay rate of the heavy-light meson or baryonic matter involving glueball. Since it is possible to fit all the spectra with same choice of the parameters to the experimental data, we believe our corrections improve the framework of D4-D8 model and the corrected instanton configuration is also useful to investigate other properties of baryon in holography.

Prospects to study hyperon-nucleon interactions at BESIII

    Jianping Dai🇨🇳 · Hai-Bo Li🇨🇳 · Han Miao🇨🇳 · Jianyu Zhang🇨🇳

The prospects to study hyperon-nuclei/nucleon interactions at BESIII and similar colliders are proposed in this work. Utilizing the large quantity of hyperons produced by the decay of 10 billion and 2.7 billion collected at BESIII, the cross sections of several specific elastic or inelastic hyperon-nuclei reactions can be measured via the scattering between the hyperons and the nucleus in the dense objects of BESIII detector. Subsequently, the cross sections of corresponding hyperon-nucleon interactions are able to be extracted with further phenomenological calculation. Furthermore, the interactions between antihyperon and nuclei/nucleon, including scattering and annihilation, can also be studied via the method proposed in this paper. The results will definitely benefit a lot the precise probe of the hyperon-nuclei/nucleon interactions and provide constraints for the studies of the potential of strong interaction, the origin of color confinement, the unified model for baryon-baryon interactions, and the internal structure of neutron stars. In addition, the desirable prospects of corresponding studies in the future Super Tau-Charm Factory (STCF) are discussed and estimated in this work.

Comparison between Artificial Neural Network and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System For The Baryon-to-Meson Ratios in Proton-Proton Collisions

    D. M. Habashy🇪🇬 · H. I. Lebda🇪🇬

This article presents two systems that can simulate and predict Particles ratios created in high energy proton-proton (pp) collisions as a function of transverse momentum and the center-of-mass energy. An adaptive neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and an artificial neural network (ANN) system are the systems in discussion. The ANFIS and ANN simulation results for training particles ratios as evaluated with training data points revealed an excellent match to the experimental data. The ANFIS and ANN's prediction abilities were also tested using data points that were not included in training and they performed well. The results clearly show that these methods are capable of extracting collision information and that they are helpful. Also, ANFIS and ANN results were compared with additional theoretical results (PYTHIA (CR Mode), HERWIG7, PYTHIA, PYTHIA8 (Monash), and EPOS-LHC). It is found that the ANFIS shows better performance and is trained more quickly than the ANN system and other theoretical models.

Machine learning constraints on deviations from general relativity from the large scale structure of the Universe

    George Alestas🇬🇷 · Lavrentios Kazantzidis🇬🇷 · Savvas Nesseris🇪🇸

We use a particular machine learning approach, called the genetic algorithms (GA), in order to place constraints on deviations from general relativity (GR) via a possible evolution of Newton's constant and of the dark energy anisotropic stress , both defined to be equal to one in GR. Specifically, we use a plethora of background and linear-order perturbations data, such as type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, cosmic chronometers, redshift space distortions and data. We find that although the GA is affected by the lower quality of the currently available data, especially from the data, the reconstruction of Newton's constant is consistent with a constant value within the errors. On the other hand, the anisotropic stress deviates strongly from unity due to the sparsity and the systematics of the data. Finally, we also create synthetic data based on a next-generation survey and forecast the limits of any possible detection of deviations from GR. In particular, we use two fiducial models: one based on the cosmological constant CDM model and another on a model with an evolving Newton's constant, dubbed CDM. We find that the GA reconstructions of and can be constrained to within a few percent of the fiducial models and in the case of the CDM mocks, they can also provide a strong detection of several s, thus demonstrating the utility of the GA reconstruction approach.

    The dual King relation

    Yasuhiro Yamamoto🇹🇼

We introduce a new linear relation in the isotope shifts of atomic spectroscopy. While the famous King relation is the linear relation among the different transitions, the new one is the linear relation among the different isotope pairs. Since we obtain this relation by exchanging the roles of the electronic and the nuclear factors in the original relation, we call it the dual King relation. This relation shows us similar information to the original King relation without including new fit parameters when we measure the isotope shifts of many transitions. In the dual King relation, the fit coefficients consist of the nuclear factors. Then, the fit results give us constraints to the ratios of the isotope dependence independent of the electron wave functions. This helps us to test the origin of unknown higher order isotope shifts. We show that the dual King relation can also be employed to constrain the weakly interacting light new boson at the same level as the original King relation.
