Quarkonium production in pNRQCD: the $P$ -wave case

Extension of the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility: Third White Paper

The J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility was constructed with an aim to explore the origin and evolution of matter in the universe through the experiments with intense particle beams. In the past decade, many results on particle and nuclear physics have been obtained at the present facility. To expand the physics programs to unexplored regions never achieved, the extension project of the Hadron Experimental Facility has been extensively discussed. This white paper presents the physics of the extension of the Hadron Experimental Facility for resolving the issues in the fields of the strangeness nuclear physics, hadron physics, and flavor physics.

Probing gluon helicity with heavy flavor at the EIC

We propose a new measurement of the heavy flavor hadron double spin asymmetry in deep-inelastic scattering at a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) to constrain the polarized gluon distribution function inside the proton. Statistical projection on $D^{0}$ meson double spin asymmetry is calculated with an EIC central detector using an all-silicon tracker and vertexing subsystem. A first impact study was done by interpreting pseudo-data at next-to-leading order in QCD. The sensitivity of the experimental observable in constraining gluon helicity distribution in a wide range of parton momentum fraction $x$ has been investigated considering different beam energy configurations. This measurement complements the inclusive spin-dependent structure function measurement and provides an opportunity to constrain the gluon helicity distribution in the moderate $x$ region.

Interglueball potential in lattice SU(N) gauge theories

The dynamics of the glueballs is important in the context of the experimental search as well as for understanding the non-Abelian gauge theory. The glueballs of the dark $S U (N_{c})$ Yang-Mills theory are also good candidates of dark matter. In this proceedings contribution, we report on the result of the lattice calculation of the interglueball potential of the Yang-Mills theory with the color numbers $N_{c} = 2, 3, 4$ , with a detailed inspection of the systematics due to the discretization.

Searching for strange hidden-charm pentaquark state $P_{cs} (4459)$ in $γ p \to K^{+} P_{cs} (4459)$ reaction

We investigate the possibility of studying the strange hidden-charm pentaquark state $P_{cs} (4459)$ by photon-induced reactions on a proton target in an effective Lagrangian approach. The production process is described by the $t$ -channel $K^{-}$ exchange, the $u$ -channel $Λ$ exchange, the contract term, and the $s$ - channel nucleon pole. Our theoretical approach is based on the assumption that $P_{cs} (4459)$ with $J^{P} = 1/ 2^{-}$ or $J^{P} = 3/ 2^{-}$ can be interpreted as a molecule composed of $D ˉ^{*} Ξ_{c}$ . Using the coupling constants of the $P_{cs}^{J^{P}}$ to $γ Λ$ and $K^{-} p$ channels obtained from molecule picture of the $P_{cs}^{J^{P}} (4459)$ , the total cross-sections of the process $γ p \to P_{cs}^{J^{P}} K^{+}$ is evaluated. Our calculation indicates that the cross-section for $γ p \to P_{cs}^{1/ 2^{-}} K^{+}$ and $γ p \to P_{cs}^{3/ 2^{-}} K^{+}$ are of the order of 10.0 pb and 5.0 pb, respectively. In addition, we compute the cross-section by assuming $P_{cs} (4459)$ as a compact pentaquark and find it is quite different from the results of $D ˉ^{*} Ξ_{c}$ molecule. Those results can be measured in future experiments, such as the Electron-Ion Collider in China and the United States. And can be used to test the nature of the $P_{cs}$ .

System evolution of forward-backward multiplicity correlations in a multi-phase transport model

The initial geometry effect on forward-backward multiplicity correlations $C (N_{f}, N_{b})$ is studied in relativistic collisions between light nuclei by using a multiphase transport model (AMPT). It is found that tetrahedron $^{16}$ O + $^{16}$ O gives a more uniform and symmetrical fireball which produces a more isotropic distribution of final particles after the expansion and evolution, and leads to a small $C (N_{f}, N_{b})$ . Forward-backward multiplicity correlation could be taken as a useful probe to distinguish the pattern of $α$ -clustered $^{16}$ O in experiments by comparing the neighboring colliding nuclear systems like $^{14}$ N + $^{14}$ N and $^{19}$ F + $^{19}$ F.

Anderson Metal-to-Critical Transition in QCD

A picture of thermal QCD phase change based on the analogy with metal-to-insulator transition of Anderson type was proposed in the past. In this picture, a low- $T$ thermal state is akin to a metal with deeply infrared (IR) Dirac modes abundant and extended, while a high- $T$ state is akin to an insulator with IR modes depleted and localized below a mobility edge $λ_{A} > 0$ . Here we argue that, while $λ_{A}$ exists in QCD, a high- $T$ state is not an insulator in such an analogy. Rather, it is a critical state arising due to a new singular mobility edge at $λ_{I R} = 0$ . This new mobility edge appears upon the transition into the recently proposed IR phase. As a key part of such a metal-to-critical scenario, we present evidence using pure-glue QCD that deeply infrared Dirac modes in the IR phase extend to arbitrarily long distances. This is consistent with our previous suggestion that the IR phase supports scale invariance in the infrared. We discuss the role of Anderson-like aspects in this thermal regime and emphasize that the combination of gauge field topology and disorder plays a key role in shaping its IR physics. Our conclusions are conveyed by the structure of Dirac spectral non-analyticities.

Nuclear matter effects on jet production at electron-ion colliders

In these proceedings we report recent progress on understanding hadron and jet production in electron-nucleus collisions at the future Electron-Ion Collider [1,2]. These processes will play an essential role in the exploration of the partonic structure of nuclei and the study of parton shower evolution in strongly-interacting matter. We employ the framework of soft-collinear effective theory, generalized to include in-medium interactions, to present the first theoretical results for inclusive hadron and jet cross sections, as well as the jet charge modification in deep inelastic scattering on nuclei. We further demonstrate how to separate initial-state and final-state effects.

Generalized parton distributions and spin structures of light mesons from a light-front Hamiltonian approach

We present the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for the valence quarks of the pion and the kaon in both momentum space and position space within the basis light-front quantization framework. These GPDs are obtained from the eigenvectors of a light-front effective Hamiltonian consisting of the holographic quantum chromodynamics (QCD) confinement potential, a complementary longitudinal confinement potential, and the color-singlet Nambu-Jona--Lasinio interactions for the valence quarks of mesons. We then calculate the generalized form factors of the pion and the kaon from the moments of these GPDs. Combining the tensor form factors with the electromagnetic form factors, we subsequently evaluate the impact parameter dependent probability density of transversely polarized quarks inside the pion and the kaon. The numerical results for the generalized form factors, tensor charges, as well as those for the probability densities and the transverse shift of the polarized densities are consistent with lattice QCD simulations and with chiral quark models.

Observation of a structure in the M $_{p η}$ invariant mass distribution near 1700 MeV/ $c^{2}$ in the $γ p \to p π^{0} η$ reaction

The reaction $γ p \to p π^{0} η$ has been studied with the CBELSA/TAPS detector at the electron stretcher accelerator ELSA in Bonn for incident photon energies from threshold up to 3.1 GeV. This paper has been motivated by the recently claimed observation of a narrow structure in the M $_{N η}$ invariant mass distribution at a mass of 1678 MeV/ $c^{2}$ . The existence of this structure cannot be confirmed in the present work. Instead, for E $_{γ}$ = 1400 - 1500 MeV and the cut M $_{p π^{0}} \leq 1190$ MeV/ $c^{2}$ a statistically significant structure in the M $_{p η}$ invariant mass distribution near 1700 MeV/ $c^{2}$ is observed with a width of $Γ \approx 35$ MeV/ $c^{2}$ while the mass resolution is $σ_{r es}$ = 5 MeV/ $c^{2}$ . Increasing the incident photon energy from 1420 to 1540 MeV this structure shifts in mass from $\approx$ 1700MeV/c $^{2}$ to $\approx$ 1725 MeV/ $c^{2}$ ; the width increases to about 50 MeV/ $c^{2}$ and decreases thereafter. The cross section associated with this structure reaches a maximum of $\approx$ 100 nb around E $_{γ} \approx$ 1490 MeV (W $\approx$ 1920 MeV), which coincides with the $p a_{0}$ threshold. Three scenarios are discussed which might be the origin of this structure in the M $_{p η}$ invariant mass distribution. The most likely interpretation is that it is due to a triangular singularity in the $γ p \to p a_{0} \to p π^{0} η$ reaction

$η (1295) \to 3 π$ decays

The radially excited pseudoscalar state $η (1295)$ is still poorly understood [as well as its $S U (3)$ partners $π (1300)$ and $K (1460)$ ] and we want to attract attention experimenters to its comprehensive study. As for the main three-body decay $η (1295) \to η π π$ , here the main interest is the measurements of the shapes of the $η π$ and $π π$ mass spectra in which the contributions from the $a_{0} (980)$ resonance and the large $π π$ $S$ wave ( $σ$ ) should manifest themselves. To describe these mass spectra, we propose to use a simple isobar model with a single fitting parameter characterizing the relative intensity of the $a_{0} (980)$ and $σ$ state production. Our main goal is to discuss the dynamics of the isospin-breaking decays $η (1295) \to π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}$ and $η (1295) \to 3 π^{0}$ , whose experimental studies could continue the impressive story of isospin violations in the decays of light isoscalar mesons $ω \to 2 π$ , $η \to 3 π$ , $η^{'} \to 3 π$ , $η (1405) \to 3 π$ , and $f_{1} (1285) \to 3 π$ . We estimate the widths of the isospin-breaking decays $η (1295) \to 3 π$ produced via the mixing of the $π^{0} - η$ and $a_{0}^{0} (980) - f_{0} (980)$ states and also due to the $π^{0} (1300) - η (1295)$ mixing. Processes that have the potential for detecting $η (1295) \to 3 π$ decays are discussed.

Vortical Quantum Memory

Quantum memory is a crucial component of a quantum information processor, just like a classical memory is a necessary ingredient of a conventional computer. Moreover, quantum memory of light would serve as a quantum repeater needed for quantum communication networks. Here we propose to realize the quantum memory coupled to magnetic modes of electromagnetic radiation (e.g. those found in cavities and optical fibers) using vortices in Quantum Hall systems. We describe the response to an external magnetic mode as a quench, and find that it sets an oscillation between vortices and antivortices, with the period controlled by the amplitude of the magnetic mode, and the phase locked to the phase of the magnetic mode. We support our proposal by real-time Hamiltonian field theory simulations.
