Study of neutron multiplicity in Th (n,f) reaction using TALYS-1.96

    Punit Dubey · Ajay Kumar🇮🇳

The nuclear scientific community views Th as an option for fuel in the future nuclear energy program. Numerous experimental studies have been conducted to determine the cross-section; however, very few have been performed to calculate the total neutron multiplicity above 10 MeV energy. In this work, we have compared the experimental data of average neutron multiplicity at different incident energies from EXFOR with the evaluated data from ENDF/B-VI, JENDL-4.0, and the calculated data from TALYS-1.96. The experimental data are in good agreement with the evaluated data from both the ENDF/B-VI and JENDL-4.0 libraries and at high incident energy (7 MeV), the TALYS-1.96 data are also in agreement with the experimental data.

Variation of Tensor Force due to Nuclear Medium Effect

    Ziming Li🇨🇳 · Jie Zhu🇨🇳 · Taofeng Wang🇨🇳 · Minliang Liu🇨🇳 · Jiansong Wang🇨🇳 · Yanyun Yang🇨🇳 · Chengjian Lin🇨🇳 · Zhiyu Sun🇨🇳 · Qinghua He🇨🇳 · M. Assié🇫🇷 · Y. Ayyad🇪🇸 · D. Beaumel🇫🇷 and 24 other authors

The enhancement of =3(0) state with isospin excited by the tensor force in the free Li nucleus has been observed, for the first time, relative to a shrinkable excitation in the Li cluster component inside its host nucleus. Comparatively, the excitation of =0(1) state with isospin for these two Li formations take on an approximately equal excitation strength. The mechanism of such tensor force effect was proposed due to the intensive nuclear medium role on isospin =0 state.

Aspect of Clusters Correlation at Light Nuclei Excited State

The correlation of was probed via measuring the transverse momentum and width of one , for the first time, which represents the spatial and dynamical essentialities of the initial coupling state in Be nucleus. The weighted interaction vertex of 3 reflected by the magnitudes of their relative momentums and relative emission angles proves the isosceles triangle configuration for 3 at the high excited energy analogous Hoyle states.

Multi-alpha Boson Gas state in Fusion Evaporation Reaction and Three-body Force

The experimental evidence for the Boson gas state in the C+CMg fusion evaporation reaction is presented. By measuring the emission spectrum with multiplicity 2 and 3, we provide insight into the existence of a three-body force among particles. The observed spectrum exhibited distinct tails corresponding to particles emitted in pairs and triplets consistent well with the model-calculations of AV18-UX and chiral effective field theory of NV2-3-la*, indicating the formation of clusters with three-body force in the Boson gas state.

Towards Precision Muonic X-Ray Measurements of Charge Radii of Light Nuclei

We propose an experiment to measure the nuclear charge radii of light elements with up to 20~times higher accuracy. These are essential both for understanding nuclear physics at low energies, and for experimental and theoretical applications in simple atomic systems. Such comparisons advance the understanding of bound-state quantum electrodynamics and are useful for searching for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The energy levels of muonic atoms are highly susceptible to nuclear structure, especially to the mean square charge radius. The radii of the lightest nuclei (with the atomic number, ) have been determined with high accuracy using laser spectroscopy in muonic atoms, while those of medium mass and above were determined using X-ray spectroscopy with semiconductor detectors. In this communication, we present a new experiment, aiming to obtain precision measurements of the radii of light nuclei using single-photon energy measurements with cryogenic microcalorimeters; a quantum-sensing technology capable of high efficiency with outstanding resolution for low-energy X-rays.

Probing the hidden-bottom pentaquark resonances in photonuclear bottomonium production near threshold: differential observables

    E. Ya. Paryev🇷🇺

We study the near-threshold meson photoproduction from protons and nuclei by considering incoherent direct non-resonant (, ) and two-step resonant (, , , 2, 3; , , ) bottomonium production processes with the main goal of clarifying the possibility to observe the non-strange hidden-bottom pentaquark states in this production via differential observables. We calculate the absolute excitation functions, energy and momentum distributions for the non-resonant, resonant and for the combined (non-resonant plus resonant) production of mesons on protons, on carbon and tungsten target nuclei at near-threshold incident photon beam energies by assuming the spin-parity assignments of the hypothetical hidden-bottom resonances , and as , and within four different realistic choices for the branching ratios of their decays to the and modes (0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1\%) as well as for two options for the background contribution. We demonstrate that the measurements of these combined observables on proton and nuclear targets in the near-threshold energy region in future experiments at the planned high-luminosity electron-ion colliders EIC and EicC in the US and China should provide evidence for the existence of the above hidden-bottom pentaquark resonances as well as clarify their decay rates.

Preservation of He ion polarization after laser-plasma acceleration

Chuan Zheng🇺🇸 · Pavel Fedorets · Ralf Engels · Ilhan Engin · Harald Glückler · Chrysovalantis Kannis · Norbert Schnitzler · Helmut Soltner🇩🇪 · Zahra Chitgar · Paul Gibbon · Lars Reichwein · Alexander Pukhov🇷🇺 · Bernhard Zielbauer · Markus Büscher

The preservation of nuclear spin alignment in plasmas is a prerequisite for important applications, such as energy production through polarized fusion or the acceleration of polarized particle beams. Although this conservation property has been the basis of numerous theoretical papers, it has never been experimentally confirmed. Here, we report on first experimental data from a polarized He target heated by a PW laser pulse, showing evidence for persistence of the nuclear polarization after acceleration to MeV energies. The finding also validates the concept of using pre-polarized targets for experiments at high-power laser facilities.

Application of the Most Frequent Value Method for Ar Half-Life Determination

    Victor V. Golovko

An evaluation method supported by robust statistical analysis was used to analyze historical measurements of Ar half-life. The method, which combines the most frequent value (MFV) approach with bootstrap analysis, provides a more reliable way to estimate the half-life of Ar. The results show that the half-life is T1/2(MFV) = 268.2 + (3.1) - (2.9) years, with an uncertainty corresponding to the 68% confidence level. This uncertainty is three times smaller than the most precise re-calculated measurements by Stoenner et al. (1965) and 2.7 times smaller than the adopted half-life value in nuclear data sheets. Recently, the specific activity of the beta decay of Ar in atmospheric argon was measured in various underground facilities. Applying the MFV method to these measurements gives a specific activity of SA(Ar/Ar)(MFV) = 0.966 + (0.010) - (0.018) Bq/kg(atmAr), with an uncertainty corresponding to the 68% confidence level. This paper also discusses the method used to determine the half-life of Ar using the specific activity of Ar in atmospheric argon.
