    Extended SAID Partial-Wave Analysis of Pion Photoproduction

    A unified Chew-Mandelstam description of single-pion photoproduction data, together with pion- and eta-hadroproduction data, has been extended to include measurements carried out over the last decade. We consider photo-decay amplitudes evaluated at the pole with particular emphasis on ng couplings and the influence of weighting on our fits. Both energy-dependent and single-energy analysis (energy-binned data) are considered.

    Fukushima tritiated water release -- What is the polemic all about?

    A mere amount of 2.2 grams (780 TBq) of tritium, diluted in m water, contained in 1047 tanks at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant are being released to the Pacific Ocean. The operation is scheduled to last over 30 years, with not more than releasing 62 mg (22 TBq) of tritium annually. The outcry in the world's press and the world's population is huge and countries like e.g. China are protesting aloud and are even banning Japanese seafood being sold in their domestic market. The outcry is real, the perceived fears are real, the havoc created on the Japanese fish market is real, but the danger is non-existing. The panic results from over-regulations initiated by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and similar bodies worldwide, prohibiting a reliable assessment of dangers and are thereby also preventing a solid risk analysis of real dangers.

    Kinematics reconstruction in solenoidal spectrometers operated in active target mode

    We discuss the reconstruction of low-energy nuclear reaction kinematics from charged-particle tracks in solenoidal spectrometers working in Active Target Time Projection Chamber mode. In this operation mode, reaction products are tracked within the active gas medium of the Active Target with a three dimensional space point cloud. We have inferred the reaction kinematics from the point cloud using an algorithm based on a linear quadratic estimator (Kalman filter). The performance of this algorithm has been evaluated using experimental data from nuclear reactions measured with the Active Target Time Projection Chamber (AT-TPC) detector.
