A search for effects of short range correlations in proton spectra from collisions induced by 47 MeV/u projectiles

    K. Hagel · J. B. Natowitz

An analysis of the energy spectra of protons emitted in reactions of 47 MeV/u projectiles with Sn and Au targets provides evidence for high momentum tails in the intrinsic momenta spectra of the projectiles. These high momentum spectra decrease with wavenumber at a rate proportional to . We suggest that additional experiments could provide a more refined value for the value of the power law exponent.

The MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR Readout Electronics System

The MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR comprises two arrays of high-purity germanium detectors constructed to search for neutrinoless double-beta decay in 76-Ge and other physics beyond the Standard Model. Its readout electronics were designed to have low electronic noise, and radioactive backgrounds were minimized by using low-mass components and low-radioactivity materials near the detectors. This paper provides a description of all components of the MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR readout electronics, spanning the front-end electronics and internal cabling, back-end electronics, digitizer, and power supplies, along with the grounding scheme. The spectroscopic performance achieved with these readout electronics is also demonstrated.

Differential Cross Section Predictions for PRad-II from Dispersion Theory

    Yong-Hui Lin🇩🇪 · Hans-Werner Hammer🇩🇪 · Ulf-G. Meißner🇩🇪

We predict the differential cross sections for and elastic scattering in the PRad-\Rom{2} energy region. The prediction is based on form factors obtained in our previous high-precision analysis of space- and time-like data from dispersion theory and different sets of two-photon exchange corrections. We investigate the sensitivity of the cross sections to two-photon exchange effects and find that the differences between model calculations and phenomenological extractions of the two-photon corrections can not be resolved if the uncertainty in the form factors is taken into account.

Charged-particle optical potentials tested by first direct measurement of 59Cu(p,alpha)56Ni reaction

    Vlad Avrigeanu · Marilena Avrigeanu

Due consideration of proton optical--model potential (OMP) anomalies at sub-Coulomb energies for medium--weight nuclei is shown to be critical for the analysis of the unprecedented measurement of CuNi reaction cross section at an energy of 6 MeV [Phys. Rev. C {\bf 104}, L042801 (2021)]. The variation in predicted cross sections from standard statistical--model calculations and the cross--section range corresponding to the anomalous proton imaginary--potential depth, for target nuclei off the line of stability, are distinct and well separated. Consequently, the new measurement provides, under unique conditions, tests of proton isoscalar and isovector real--potential components, the anomalous imaginary potential, as well as previous alpha-particle OMP, for nuclei off the line of stability.

First measurement of the reaction in an inertial confinement fusion implosion at the National Ignition Facility: Initial steps toward the development of a radiochemistry mix diagnostic

    D. Lonardoni🇺🇸 · J. P. Sauppe · S. H. Batha · N. Birge🇺🇸 · T. Bredeweg · M. Freeman · V. Geppert-Kleinrath🇺🇸 · M. E. Gooden · A. C. Hayes🇺🇸 · H. Huang · G. Jungman · B. D. Keenan and 8 other authors

We report the first measurement of the reaction in a polar-direct-drive exploding pusher (PDXP) at the National Ignition Facility (NIF). This work is motivated by the need to develop alternative mix diagnostics, radiochemistry being the focus here. The target is composed of a deuterium-tritium (DT) fill surrounded by a roughly thick beryllium ablator. The inner portion of the beryllium ablator is doped with of . Radiation-hydrodynamics calculations were performed in 1D to optimize both the remaining boron rho-R and the DT neutron yield. A charged-particle transport post-processor has been developed to study -induced reactions on the ablator material. Results indicate a large production from -induced reactions on , measurable by the radiochemical analysis of gaseous samples system at the NIF. The PDXP target N201115-001 was successfully fielded on the NIF, and nitrogen from the reaction was measured. The production yield, as well as the DT neutron yield, was, however, lower than expected. Some of the reduced yields can be explained by the oblate shape, but the ratios of the various radiochemical signals are not commensurate with expectations based on a simple reduction of the 1D results. Preliminary 2D radiation-hydrodynamics computations are consistent with the experimental measurements, and work is ongoing to extend the radiochemistry analysis into higher dimensions.
