Measurements of multiplicity fluctuations of identified hadrons in inelastic proton-proton interactions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron

    NA61/SHINE Collaboration: A. Acharya · H. Adhikary · A. Aduszkiewicz · K.K. Allison · E.V. Andronov · T. Antićić · V. Babkin · M. Baszczyk · S. Bhosale · A. Blondel · M. Bogomilov · A. Brandin and 129 other authors

Measurements of multiplicity fluctuations of identified hadrons produced in inelastic p+p interactions at 31, 40, 80, and 158~\GeVc beam momentum are presented. Three different measures of multiplicity fluctuations are used: the scaled variance and strongly intensive measures and . These fluctuation measures involve second and first moments of joint multiplicity distributions. Data analysis is performed using the Identity method which corrects for incomplete particle identification. Strongly intensive quantities are calculated in order to allow for a direct comparison to corresponding results on nucleus-nucleus collisions. The results for different hadron types are shown as a function of collision energy. A comparison with predictions of string-resonance Monte-Carlo models: Epos, Smash and Venus, is also presented.

Manifestation of one- and two-body currents in longitudinal and transverse response functions of the 12C nucleus at q = 300 MeV/c

    A.Yu. Buki🇺🇦 · I.S. Timchenko🇺🇦

The experimental values of longitudinal and transverse response functions of the 12C nucleus have been obtained at the 3-momentum transfer q = 300 MeV/c. The data are compared with the calculations made with due regard to the dynamics of all the nucleons constituting the 12C nucleus, and also, to the contributions of both the one-body currents only, and their combination with two-body currents.

Inclusive Jet Measurements in Pb-Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV with ALICE using Machine Learning Techniques

Hannah Bossi (for the ALICE Collaboration)🇺🇸

These proceedings report on measurements of the jet spectrum and nuclear modification factor for inclusive full jets (containing both charged and neutral constituents) in Pb-Pb and pp collisions at TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. These measurements use a machine learning based background correction, which reduces residual fluctuations. This method allows for measurements to lower transverse momenta and larger jet resolution parameter (R) than previously possible in ALICE. In this method, machine learning techniques are used to correct the jet transverse momentum on a jet-by-jet basis using jet parameters such as information about the constituents of the jet. Studies that investigate the effect of the potential fragmentation bias introduced by learning from constituents will also be discussed. With these studies in mind, the results are compared to theoretical predictions.

Measurement of the Background Activities of a 100Mo-enriched Powder Sample for an AMoRE Crystal Material by using Fourteen High-Purity Germanium Detectors

    S. Y. Park · K. I. Hahn · W. G. Kang · V. Kazalov · G. W. Kim · Y. D. Kim · E. K. Lee · M. H. Lee · D. S. Leonard

The Advanced Molybdenum-based Rare process Experiment in its second phase (AMoRE-II) will search for neutrinoless double-beta (0{\nu}\b{eta}\b{eta}) decay of 100Mo in 200 kg of molybdate crystals. To achieve the zero-background level in the energy range of the double-beta decay Q-value of 100Mo, the radioactive contamination levels in AMoRE crystals should be low. 100EnrMoO3 powder, which is enriched in the 100Mo isotope, is used to grow the AMoRE crystals. A shielded array of fourteen high-purity germanium detectors with 70% relative efficiency each was used for the measurement of background activities in a sample of 9.6-kg powder. The detector system named CAGe located at the Yangyang underground laboratory was designed for measuring low levels of radioactivity from natural radioisotopes or cosmogenic nuclides such as 228Ac, 228Th, 226Ra, 88Y, and 40K. The activities of 228Ac and 228Th in the powder sample were 0.88 \pm 0.12 mBq/kg and 0.669 \pm 0.087 mBq/kg, respectively. The activity of 226Ra was measured to be 1.50 \pm 0.23 mBq/kg. The activity of 88Y was 0.101 \pm 0.016 mBq/kg. The activity of 40K was found as 36.0 \pm 4.1 mBq/kg.

Initial State Summary of Hard Probes 2020

    Bjoern Schenke🇺🇸

The description of the initial state of heavy ion collisions, which covers the description of the incoming nuclei, the initial hard and soft interactions, the resulting spatial geometry of the produced matter, as well as the dynamic approach to a medium well described by hydrodynamics, has important consequences for the study of hard and electromagnetic probes. I will review new developments presented at Hard Probes 2020 that have an impact on these aspects of our understanding of the initial state of heavy ion and smaller system collisions.
