Connection between soft and hard probes of small collision systems at RHIC and LHC

    Dennis V. Perepelitsa🇺🇸

The expected connections between signatures in the soft and hard sectors of small collision systems, and the status of experimental attempts to identify them, are discussed. These proceedings summarize the talk as given at the International Symposium on Multi-Particle Dynamics in September 2019 in Santa Fe, NM (ISMD19). As such, the choice of content and focus are selective and not intended to be comprehensive.

AMoRE: A search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of 100Mo using low-temperature molybdenum-containing crystal detectors

Moo Hyun Lee (for the AMoRE Collaboration)🇰🇷

The AMoRE is an experiment to search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of 100Mo in molybdate crystal scintillators using a cryogenic detection technique. The crystals are equipped with metallic magnetic calorimeter sensors that detect both phonon and photon signals at temperatures of a few tens of mK. Simultaneous measurements of thermal and scintillation signals produced by particle interactions in the crystals by MMC sensors provide high energy resolution and efficient particle discrimination. AMoRE-Pilot, an R&D phase with six 48deplCa100MoO4 crystals and a total mass of ~1.9 kg in the final configuration, operated at the 700 m deep Yangyang underground laboratory (Y2L). After completion of the AMoRE-Pilot run at the end of 2018, AMoRE-I with a ~6 kg crystal array comprised of thirteen 48deplCa100MoO4 and five Li2100MoO4 crystals is currently being assembled and installed at Y2L. We have secured 110 kg of 100Mo-isotope-enriched MoO3 powder for the production of crystals for the AMoRE-II phase, which will have ~200 kg of molybdate crystals and operate at Yemilab, a new underground laboratory located ~1,100 m deep in the Handeok iron mine that is currently being excavated and with a scheduled completion date of December 2020. AMoRE-II is expected to improve the upper limit on the effective Majorana neutrino mass to cover the entire inverted hierarchy neutrino mass region: 20-50 meV, in the case when no such decays are observed. Results from AMoRE-Pilot and progress of the preparations for AMoRE-I and AMoRE-II are presented.

Systematic study on the role of various higher-order processes in the breakup of weakly-bound projectiles

    Jagjit Singh🇯🇵 · Takuma Matsumoto🇯🇵 · Kazuyuki Ogata🇯🇵

The virtual photon theory (VPT), which is based on first-order Coulomb dissociation restricted to the electric dipole (), has been successfully used to explain the breakup data for several cases. Our aim is to study the role of various higher-order processes that are ignored in the VPT, such as the nuclear breakup, interference between nuclear and Coulomb amplitudes, and multistep breakup processes mainly due to strong continuum-continuum couplings in the breakup of two-body projectiles on a heavy target at both intermediate and higher incident energies. For the purpose of numerical calculations, we employed eikonal version of three-body continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) reaction model. Our results for the breakup of Be and F on Pb target at 100, 250, and 520 MeV/A, show the importance of nuclear breakup contribution, and its significant role in the multistep processes. The multistep effect on Coulomb breakup for core-neutron projectile was found to be negligible, whereas it was important for core-proton projectile. Coulomb-nuclear interference (CNI) effect was also found to be non-negligible. Quantitatively, the multistep effects due to the nuclear breakup was found to depend on the incident energy through the energy dependence of the core-target and nucleon-target nuclear potentials. The nuclear breakup component, the CNI effect, and the multistep breakup processes are all found to be non-negligible; hence, the assumptions adopted in the VPT for the accurate description of breakup cross sections are not valid.

Coexistence of planar and aplanar rotations in Tl

    J. Peng🇨🇳 · Q. B. Chen🇩🇪

The chirality suggested for the doublet bands B2 and B2a in Tl in region is reexamined. The potential-energy curves and the configurations together with the deformation parameters are obtained by the constrained covariant density functional theory. The corresponding experimental energy spectra, energy differences between doublet bands, and the available values are investigated by the fully quantal particle rotor model. Analysis on the basis of the angular momentum components, the -plots, and the azimuthal plots suggest a planar rotation interpretation for the bands B2 and B2a. Hence, it coexists with the aplanar rotation in the other doublet bands B4 and B4a in Tl.
