    Excitation function of 27Al+ 20Ne reaction upto 166 MeV

    Aluminium is used as energy degrader or catcher foil or as backing material in nuclear physics experiments. Excitations functions of 27Al+ 20Ne reaction in the projectile energy range 49-166 MeV were measured using stacked foil technique. Various evaporation residues such as 43,44Sc, 41Ar, 34m,38Cl, etc., were identified in the matrix.

    Heavy flavour measurements with the ALICE experiment at the LHC

    Heavy quarks (charm and beauty) are produced early in the nucleus-nucleus collisions, and heavy flavor survives throughout the later stages. Measurements of heavy-flavor quarks thus provide us with means to understand the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma, a hot and dense state of matter created in heavy-ion collisions. Production of heavy-flavor in small collision systems, on the other hand, can be used to test Quantum-chromodynamics models. After a successful completion of the Run-I data taking period, the increased luminosity from the LHC and an upgraded ALICE detector system in the Run-II data taking period allows for an unprecedented precision in the study of heavy quarks. In this article we give an overview of selected recent results on heavy-flavor measurements with ALICE experiment at the LHC.

    Coherent J/ photoproduction at forward rapidity in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at TeV

    The ALICE collaboration performed the first rapidity-differential measurement of coherent J/ photoproduction in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy = 5.02 TeV. The J/ is detected via its dimuon decay in the forward rapidity region () for events where the hadronic activity is required to be minimal. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 750 b. The cross section for coherent J/ production is presented in six rapidity bins. The results are compared with theoretical models for coherent J/ photoproduction. These comparisons indicate that gluon shadowing effects play a role in the photoproduction process. The ratio of to J/ coherent photoproduction cross sections was measured and found to be consistent with that measured for photoproduction off protons.

    On relation between bulk, surface and curvature parts of nuclear binding energy within the model of hexagonal clusters

    Using the model of hexagonal clusters we express the surface, curvature and Gauss curvature coefficients of the nuclear binding energy in terms of its bulk coefficient. Using the derived values of these coefficients and a single fitting parameter we are able to reasonably well describe the experimental binding energies of nuclei with more than 100 nucleons. To improve the description of lighter nuclei we introduce the same correction for all the coefficients. In this way we determine the apparent values of the surface, curvature and Gauss curvature coefficients which may be used for infinite nuclear matter equation of state. This simple model allows us to fix the temperature dependence of all these coefficients, if the temperature dependence for the bulk term is known. The found estimates for critical temperature are well consistent both with experimental and with theoretical findings.

    The purpose of the present study was to explore the possibility of accommodating the and its flavor SU(3) partners in a diquark model. Proposing that is composed of three vector diquarks, its mass is calculated by use of an effective Hamiltonian approach and its decay width is estimated by considering the effects of quark tunneling from one diquark to the others and the decays of the subsequent two-baryon bound state. Both the obtained mass and decay width of are in agreement with the experimental data, with the unexpected narrow decay width being naturally explained by the large tunneling suppression of a quark between a pair of diquarks. The masses and decay widths of the flavor SU(3) partners of are also predicated within the same diquark scenario.

    I review the experimental evidence for the , the candidate nonstandard meson associated with resonance-like peaks in and near ~MeV, and address the conjecture that it can be identified as the , the radial excitation of the charmonium state. Since the partial decay width for is at least an order-of-magnitude larger than that for , its assignment as the is dubious.

    Xenon TPCs for Double Beta Decay Searches

    Xenon time projection chambers (TPCs) have become a well-established detection technology for neutrinoless double beta decay searches in Xe. I discuss the motivations for this choice. I describe the status and prospects of both liquid and gaseous xenon TPC projects for double beta decay.
