New data on states in Gd

Excited states in the deformed nucleus Gd have been studied in the (p,t) reaction by using the Munich Tandem and Q3D spectrograph. 30 new excited 0 states (three tentative) have been assigned up to the 4.3 MeV excitation energy. The total number of 34 excited 0 states (four tentatively assigned) in a deformed nucleus, close to a complete level scheme, offers a new opportunity to test nuclear models and obtain more information on the structure of these special states.

Search for neutron-hidden neutron interbrane transitions with MURMUR, a low-noise neutron passing-through-walls experiment

    Coraline Stasser🇧🇪 · Michaël Sarrazin🇫🇷 · Guy Terwagne🇧🇪

Multi-braneworld universe is at the heart of many scenarios of physics beyond the Standard Model and the cosmological model . It is thus an important concern to constrain these scenarios which also allow for experiments below the GeV scale. MURMUR is a new neutron-passing-through-walls experiment designed to constrain neutron-hidden neutron transitions in the context of braneworlds scenarios. As our visible universe could be a 3-brane embedded in a multidimensional bulk, adjacent hidden 3-branes are often expected. Their existence can be constrained as matter exchange between braneworlds must occur with a swapping probability . A neutron can convert into a hidden neutron when scattered by a nucleus with cross section , where is the usual elastic cross-section. Hidden neutrons could therefore be generated in the moderator medium of a nuclear reactor, where high-flux neutrons undergo many elastic collisions. All the theoretical and technological keys of this experiment soon to be installed at the nuclear research reactor BR2 (SCK.CEN, Mol, Belgium) are introduced.

    Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay Overview

    L. Cardani🇮🇹

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay is a hypothesised nuclear process in which two neutrons simultaneously decay into protons with no neutrino emission. The prized observation of this decay would point to the existence of a process that violates a fundamental symmetry of the Standard Model of Particle Physics, and would allow to establish the nature of neutrinos. Today, the lower limits on the half-life of this process exceed 10-10 yr. I will review the current status of the searches for Double Beta Decay and the perspectives to enhance the experimental sensitivity in the next years.

    NA61/SHINE experiment - programme beyond 2020

    Ludwik Turko🇵🇱

The fixed-target NA61/SHINE experiment (SPS CERN) looks for the critical point (CR) of strongly interacting matter and the properties of the onset of deconfinement. It is a scan of measurements of particle spectra and fluctuations in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus interactions as a function of collision energy and system size, corresponding to a two dimensional phase diagram (T-). New measurements and their objectives, related to the third stage of the experiment after 2020 are presented and discussed here.

Towards new Front-End Electronics for the HADES Drift Chamber System

    Michael Wiebusch🇩🇪 · Christian Müntz🇩🇪 · Christian Wendisch🇩🇪 · Jerzy Pietraszko🇩🇪 · Jan Michel🇩🇪 · Joachim Stroth🇩🇪

Operating HADES at the future FAIR SIS-100 accelerator challenges the rate capability of DAQ and electronics. A new, more robust version of front-end electronics needs to be built for the HADES drift chamber system. Due to the unavailability of the previously used ASD-8 analog read-out ASIC, PASTTREC (PANDA straw tube read-out ASIC) was tested as an ASD-8 replacement in different scenarios including a beam test. PASTTREC falls 20% short of the ASD-8 time precision but performs better w.r.t. signal charge measurements and overall operation stability. The measured time precision as a function of distance to the sense wire was modeled within a 3D GARFIELD simulation of the HADES drift cell.
