    Photoneutron reaction cross section measurements on 94Mo and 90Zr relevant to the p-process nucleosynthesis

    The photodisintegration cross sections for the 94Mo({\gamma},n) and 90Zr({\gamma},n) reactions have been experimentally investigated with quasi-monochromatic photon beams at the High Intensity {\gamma}-ray Source (HI{\gamma}S) facility of the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL). The energy dependence of the photoneutron reaction cross sections was measured with high precision from the respective neutron emission thresholds up to 13.5 MeV. These measurements contribute to a broader investigation of nuclear reactions relevant to the understanding of the p-process nucleosynthesis. The results are compared with the predictions of Hauser-Feshbach statistical model calculations using two different models for the dipole {\gamma}-ray strength function. The resulting 94Mo({\gamma},n) and 90Zr({\gamma},n) photoneutron stellar reaction rates as a function of temperature in the typical range of interest for the p-process nucleosynthesis show how sensitive the photoneutron stellar reaction rate can be to the experimental data in the vicinity of the neutron threshold.

    Measurements of , and proton yields from the surface of the T2K replica target for incoming 31 GeV/c protons with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS

    Measurements of the , , and proton double differential yields emitted from the surface of the 90-cm-long carbon target (T2K replica) were performed for the incoming 31 GeV/c protons with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS using data collected during 2010 run. The double differential yields were measured with increased precision compared to the previously published NA61/SHINE results, while the and proton yields were obtained for the first time. A strategy for dealing with the dependence of the results on the incoming proton beam profile is proposed. The purpose of these measurements is to reduce significantly the (anti)neutrino flux uncertainty in the T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment by constraining the production of (anti)neutrino ancestors coming from the T2K target.

    Post breakup dynamics of fragments produced in nuclear multifragmentation

    The deexcitation of the primary hot fragments, produced in the breakup of an excited nuclear source, during their propagation under the influence of their mutual Coulomb repulsion is studied in the framework of a recently developed hybrid model. The latter is based on the Statistical Mul- tifragmentation Model (SMM), describing the prompt breakup of the source, whereas the particle emission from the hot fragments, that decay while traveling away from each other, is treated by the Weisskopf-Ewing evaporation model. Since this treatment provides an event by event descrip- tion of the process, in which the classical trajectories of the fragments are followed using molecular dynamics techniques, it allows one to study observables such as two-particle correlations and infer the extent to which the corresponding observables may provide information on the multifragment production mechanisms. Our results suggest that the framework on which these treatments are based may be considerably constrained by such analyses. Furthermore, they imply that information obtained from these model calculations may provide feedback to the theory of nuclear interferome- try. We also found that neutron deficient fragments should hold information more closely related to the breakup region than neutron rich ones, as they are produced in much earlier stages of the post breakup dynamics than the latter.
