Measurements of Non-Singlet Moments of the Nucleon Structure Functions and Comparison to Predictions from Lattice QCD for

We present extractions of the nucleon non-singlet moments utilizing new precision data on the deuteron structure function at large Bjorken- determined via the Rosenbluth separation technique at Jefferson Lab Experimental Hall C. These new data are combined with a complementary set of data on the proton previously measured in Hall C at similar kinematics and world data sets on the proton and deuteron at lower measured at SLAC and CERN. The new Jefferson Lab data provide coverage of the upper third of the range, crucial for precision determination of the higher moments. In contrast to previous extractions, these moments have been corrected for nuclear effects in the deuteron using a new global fit to the deuteron and proton data. The obtained experimental moments represent an order of magnitude improvement in precision over previous extractions using high data. Moreover, recent exciting developments in Lattice QCD calculations provide a first ever comparison of these new experimental results with calculations of moments carried out at the physical pion mass, as well as a new approach which first calculates the quark distributions directly before determining moments.

Exploring the Phase Space of Jet Splittings at ALICE using Grooming and Recursive Techniques

Harry Arthur Andrews (for the ALICE Collaboration)🇬🇧

Hard splittings in the evolution of a jet may be modified by the presence of a dense strongly interacting medium. Grooming procedures can be used to isolate such hard components of a jet and allows one to focus on the two subjets resulting from a sufficiently hard partonic splitting. Measurements of the symmetry parameter (), angular separation () and number of splittings () of Soft Drop groomed jets are reported as measured with the ALICE Detector in pp and Pb--Pb collisions at = 7 TeV and = 2.76 TeV respectively. The use of recursive splittings and their mappings to identify interesting regions of phase space are also discussed.

Constraining neutron-star equation of state using heavy-ion collisions

    C.Y. Tsang🇺🇸 · M.B. Tsang🇺🇸 · P. Danielewicz🇺🇸 · W.G. Lynch🇺🇸 · F.J. Fattoyev🇺🇸

The LIGO-Virgo collaboration ground-breaking detection of the binary neutron-star merger event, GW170817, has intensified efforts towards the understanding of the equation of state (EoS) of nuclear matter. In this letter, we compare directly the density-pressure constraint on the EoS obtained from a recent analysis of the neutron-star merger event to density-pressure constraints obtained from nuclear physics experiments. To relate constraints from nuclear physics to the radii and the tidal deformabilities of neutron stars, we use a large collection of Skyrme density functionals that describe properties of nuclei to calculate properties of 1.4 solar maass neutron stars. We find that restricting this set of Skyrme equations of state to density functionals that describe nuclear masses, isobaric analog states, and low energy nuclear reactions does not sufficiently restrict the predicted neutron-star radii and the tidal deformabilities. Including pressure constraints on the EoS around twice saturation density, obtained from high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions, does constrain predicted radii and tidal deformabilities to be consistent with the results obtained from the analysis of GW170817. We discuss how new measurements of nucleus-nucleus collisions can improve these constraints on the EoS to be more restrictive than the current constraints from the GW170817 merger event.

Multiparticle correlations and collectivity in small systems from the initial state

    Kevin Dusling🇺🇸 · Mark Mace🇺🇸 · Vladimir V. Skokov🇺🇸 · Prithwish Tribedy🇺🇸 · Raju Venugopalan🇺🇸

We report on recent progress in understanding multiparticle correlations in small systems from the initial state. First, we consider a proof-of-principle parton model, which we use to demonstrate that many of the multiparticle correlations observed in light-heavy ion collisions, often ascribed to hydrodynamic collectivity, can be qualitatively reproduced in an initial state model. Then, we study the two-particle harmonics and for p/d/He+Au collisions at RHIC using the dilute-dense Color Glass Condensate Effective Field Theory framework. We show that this provides a viable alternative explanation to hydrodynamics, and elaborate on how such modeling can be improved.

Collective effects in nuclear collisions: theory overview

    Jorge Noronha (Sao Paulo U.)🇧🇷

In these proceedings I review recent developments concerning the hydrodynamic description of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). I report on the progress towards more realistic simulations and discuss new features about the QGP transport coefficients of the hot (and baryon dense) medium formed in heavy ion collisions. A brief discussion is included on the applicability of hydrodynamics and its extension to the far-from-equilibrium regime.

    Rapidity decorrelation from hydrodynamic fluctuations

    Azumi Sakai🇯🇵 · Koichi Murase🇯🇵 · Tetsufumi Hirano🇯🇵

We discuss rapidity decorrelation caused by hydrodynamic fluctuations in high-energy nuclear collisions at the LHC energy. We employ an integrated dynamical model which is a combination of the Monte Carlo version of Glauber model with extension to longitudinal direction for initial conditions, full three-dimensional relativistic fluctuating hydrodynamics for the space-time evolution of created matter in the intermediate stage and a hadronic cascade model in the late stage. We switch on and off the hydrodynamic fluctuations in the hydrodynamic stage to understand the effects of hydrodynamic fluctuations on factorisation ratios . To understand the rapidity gap dependence of the factorisation ratio comprehensively, we analyse Legendre coefficients and .

TIdentity module for the reconstruction of the moments of multiplicity distributions

    Mesut Arslandok🇩🇪 · Anar Rustamov🇦🇿

In this report a new software module for the reconstruction of the moments of multiplicity distributions of identified particles, the TIdentity module, is presented. The module exploits the Identity Method, which allows to circumvent the issues of incomplete particle identifications caused by unavoidable overlapping particle identification signals. After demonstrating the performance of the module in a number of simulations, we provide a user's guide with a detailed description of its functionality. The module can be used in high energy nuclear interactions aiming at the determination of the moments of multiplicity distributions of identified particles.

Nonlinear coupling of flow harmonics in heavy-ion collisions

    Giuliano Giacalone🇫🇷

Anisotropic flow coefficients beyond triangular flow receive important contributions from lower-order harmonics through nonlinear coupling. We present a theoretical framework which allows one to quantify the contribution induced by such nonlinear couplings to any flow harmonic of any order. We show the effectiveness of this formalism through an application to hexagonal flow, . We study, in particular, the coupling of to triangular flow, , in Pb+Pb collisions at TeV, using both Large Hadron Collider data and event-by-event hydrodynamic calculations.

Signature of gluon saturation in forward di-hadron correlations at the Large Hadron Collider

    Giuliano Giacalone🇫🇷 · Cyrille Marquet🇫🇷

We argue that gluon saturation effects may be visible in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data. We look at the centrality dependence of the away-side peak of two-particle correlations measured in p-Pb collisions, using both ALICE data at midrapidity, and LHCb data at forward rapidity. Once the collective flow-like signal measured at the near-side peak is removed from the correlation function, the centrality dependence of the away-side peak turns out to be much stronger in the forward region than at midrapidity. We argue that this is a very specific prediction of the saturation framework, and we compare LHCb data to a state-of-the-art calculation within the Color Glass Condensate theory.

Charged Kaon multiplicities of Semi-inclusive DIS off the deuteron target

    Chung-Wen Kao🇹🇼 · Dong-Jing Yang🇹🇼 · Wen-Chen Chang🇹🇼

We investigate the results of the charged kaon multiplicities off the deuteron target from HERMES and COMPASS experiments. The discrepancy of the two data sets cannot be explained by different values. Furthermore we examine the empirical parametrization of the fragmentation functions, DSS2017, and find that the agreement between the theoretical predictions and the HERMES data is less satisfactory as claimed.

Jet modification with medium recoil in quark-gluon plasma

    Chanwook Park🇨🇦 · Sangyong Jeon🇨🇦 · Charles Gale🇨🇦

Jet energy transported to quark-gluon plasma during jet-medium interaction excites the QGP medium and creates energetic thermal partons -- recoil particles or recoils. Modification of the jet structure in heavy ion collisions is studied using \textsc{martini}, in which recoil simulation is enabled. In large systems such as central Pb-Pb collisions, the recoil effect is expected to be critical due to strong jet-medium interaction. We show the results of the jet mass function and jet shape function are improved when the recoil particles are included in the reconstructed jets. We conclude that the energy carried by the recoil particles are regarded as a part of reconstructed jets and are necessary in studying jet modification in heavy ion collisions.

Unpolarized isovector quark distribution function from Lattice QCD: A systematic analysis of renormalization and matching

    Yu-Sheng Liu🇨🇳 · Jiunn-Wei Chen🇹🇼 · Yi-Kai Huo🇨🇳 · Luchang Jin🇺🇸 · Maximilian Schlemmer🇩🇪 · Andreas Schäfer🇩🇪 · Peng Sun🇨🇳 · Wei Wang🇨🇳 · Yi-Bo Yang🇺🇸 · Jian-Hui Zhang🇩🇪 · Qi-An Zhang🇨🇳 · Kuan Zhang🇨🇳 · Yong Zhao🇺🇸

We present a detailed Lattice QCD study of the unpolarized isovector quark Parton Distribution Function (PDF) using large-momentum effective theory framework. We choose a quasi-PDF defined by a spatial correlator which is free from mixing with other operators of the same dimension. In the lattice simulation, we use a Gaussian-momentum-smeared source at MeV and GeV. To control the systematics associated with the excited states, we explore {five different source-sink separations}. The nonperturbative renormalization is conducted in a regularization-independent momentum subtraction scheme, and the matching between the renormalized quasi-PDF and PDF is calculated based on perturbative QCD up to one-loop order. Systematic errors due to renormalization and perturbative matching are also analyzed in detail. Our results for lightcone PDF are in reasonable agreement with the latest phenomenological analysis.
