-Meson in PbPb Collisions at = 5.02 TeV and Elliptic Flow in pPb Collisions at = 8.16 TeV with CMS

Zhaozhong Shi (on behalf of the CMS Collaboration)🇺🇸

The study of charm production in heavy-ion collisions is considered an excellent probe for the properties of the hot and dense medium created in heavy-ion collisions. Measurements of D-meson nuclear modification can provide strong constraints into the mechanisms of in-medium energy loss and charm flow in the medium. The measurement of elliptic flow in pPb collisions helps us understand the strength of charm quarks coupling to significantly reduced systems which demonstrate hydrodynamic properties. In this paper, the measurements of the nuclear modification factor in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV together with the new measurement of elliptic flow in high multiplicity pPb collisions at 5.02 TeV using the two-particle correlation method will be presented.

Elliptic flow of identified hadrons in small collisional systems measured with ALICE

Vojtěch Pacík (for the ALICE Collaboration)🇩🇰

Recent observations of long-range multi-particle azimuthal correlations in p--Pb and high multiplicity pp collisions provided new insights into collision dynamics and opened a possibility to study collective effects in these small systems. New measurement of -differential elliptic flow () coefficient for inclusive charged hadrons as well as a variety of identified particle species in p--Pb collisions at TeV recorded by ALICE during the LHC Run 2 data taking are presented. Besides high precision measurements of for and , the very first results for and are shown. In order to eliminate non-flow contamination, a pseudorapidity separation between correlated particles is applied as well as subtraction of remaining non-flow estimate based on a measurement of minimum-bias pp collisions at TeV. Moreover, reported characteristic mass ordering and approximate NCQ and scaling of allows to test various theoretical models, constrain the initial conditions, and probe the origin of collective behavior in small collision systems.

Status of the Chiral Magnetic Effect Search in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

    Jie Zhao🇺🇸 · Zhoudunming Tu🇺🇸 · Fuqiang Wang🇺🇸

Quark interactions with topological gluon fields in QCD can yield local and violations which could explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in our universe. Effects of and violations can result in charge separation under a strong magnetic field, a phenomenon called the chiral magnetic effect (CME). Experimental measurements of the CME-induced charge separation in heavy-ion collisions are dominated by physics backgrounds. Major theoretical and experimental efforts have been devoted to eliminating or reducing those backgrounds. We review the current status of these efforts in the search for the CME in heavy-ion collisions.

Models for nuclear reactions with weakly bound systems

    Antonio M. Moro🇪🇸

In this contribution, I present a short overview of the theory of direct nuclear reactions, with special emphasis on the case of reactions induced by weakly-bound nuclei. After introducing some general results of quantum scattering theory, I present specific applications to elastic, inelastic, transfer and breakup reactions. For each of them, I first introduce the most standard framework, followed by some alternative models or extensions suitable for the case of weakly bound nuclei. A short discussion on semiclassical theory of Coulomb excitation and its application to breakup of halo nuclei is also provided.

Eta and Etaprime Photoproduction on the Nucleon with the Isobar Model EtaMAID2018

    L. Tiator🇩🇪 · M. Gorchtein🇩🇪 · V. L. Kashevarov🇩🇪 · K. Nikonov🇩🇪 · M. Ostrick🇩🇪 · M. Hadzimehmedovic🇧🇦 · R. Omerovic🇧🇦 · H. Osmanovic🇧🇦 · J. Stahov🇧🇦 · A. Svarc🇭🇷

The isobar model EtaMAID has been updated with new and high precision data for eta and etaprime photoproduction on protons and neutrons from MAMI, ELSA, GRAAL and CLAS. The background is described in a recently developed Regge-cut model, and for the resonance part the whole list of nucleon resonances has been investigated with 21 N* states contributing to eta photoproduction and 12 N* states contributing to etaprime photoproduction. A new approach is discussed to avoid double counting in the overlap region of Regge and resonances. A comparison is done among four newly updated partial waves analyses for observables and partial waves. Finally, the possibility of a narrow resonance near W=1900 MeV is discussed, that would be able to explain unexpected energy and angular dependence of observables in p(gamma, etaprime)p near etaprime threshold.

The evolution of the near-side peak in two-particle number and transverse momentum correlations in Pb-Pb collisions from ALICE

Monika Varga-Kofarago (for the ALICE collaboration)🇭🇺

Two-particle number and transverse momentum correlations are powerful tools for studying the medium produced in heavy-ion collisions. Correlations in the angular separation of pairs of hadrons can provide information on the medium transport characteristics. In particular, the transverse momentum correlations are sensitive to momentum currents, and provide information about the system life time, the shear viscosity over entropy density ratio () and the system relaxation time (). Furthermore, the interaction of the jets produced in the initial stages of a collision can be studied using number correlations, by observing the medium-induced modification of the near-side jet peak. Measurements of both sets of correlations from Pb-Pb collisions are reported as a function of centrality. Theoretical interpretations and results from Monte Carlo generators are then confronted with the experimental data.

Quantum entanglement in the initial and final state of relativistic heavy ion collisions

    Rene Bellwied🇺🇸

The possibility of quantum entanglement leading to a seemingly thermal distribution of the initial partonic state that maps to the final hadronic state in the evolution of the deconfined phase generated in relativistic heavy ion collisions is discussed in the context of early thermalization and final state particle distributions obtained in experiments at RHIC and the LHC.

Electrodisintegration of Deuteron into Dark Matter and Proton Close to Threshold

    A. N. Ivanov🇦🇹 · R. Höllwieser🇦🇹 · N. I. Troitskaya🇦🇹 · M. Wellenzohn🇦🇹 · Ya. A. Berdnikov🇷🇺

We discuss an investigation of the dark matter decay modes of the neutron, proposed by Fornal and Grinstein (Phys. Rev. Lett. 120 191801 (2018)) and Ivanov et al. ( arXiv:1806.10107 [hep-ph]) for solution of the neutron lifetime anomaly problem, through the analysis of the electrodisintegration of the deuteron d into dark matter fermions chi and protons p close to threshold. We calculate the triple-differential cross section for the reaction e^- + d ->\chi + p + e^- and propose to search for such a dark matter channel in coincidence experiments on the electrodisintegration of the deuteron e^- + d -> n + p + e^- into neutrons n and protons close to threshold with outgoing electrons, protons and neutrons in coincidence. A missing of neutron signals should testify a detection of dark matter fermions.

Hybrid model with dynamical sources for heavy-ion collisions at BES energies

    Lipei Du🇺🇸 · Ulrich Heinz🇺🇸 · Gojko Vujanovic🇺🇸

We develop a (3+1)-dimensional hybrid evolution model for heavy-ion collisions with dynamical sources for the energy-momentum tensor and baryon current. During an initial pre-equilibrium stage based on UrQMD, the four-momenta and baryon numbers carried by secondary particles created within UrQMD are fed continuously, after a short thermalization time, into a (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic evolution module including baryon transport. The sensitivity of the initial conditions to model parameters and the effect of baryon diffusion on the hydrodynamic evolution are studied.
