Elliptic Flow and the Nuclear Equation of State

    W. Trautmann🇩🇪 · H. H. Wolter🇩🇪

New constraints for the nuclear equation of state at suprasaturation densities have been obtained by measuring collective particle flows in heavy-ion reactions at relativistic energies. Ratios and differences of neutron and hydrogen flows in 197Au + 197Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon were used in studies of the asymmetric-matter equation of state. The comparison with predictions of transport models favors a moderately soft to linear density dependence, consistent with ab-initio nuclear matter theories. Model predictions suggest that comprehensive data sets collected at higher bombarding energies will provide information on the asymmetric-matter equation of state in the density range up to two or three times the saturation value.

Identified kaon production in Ar+Sc collisions at SPS energies

    Maciej P. Lewicki (for the NA61/SHINE Collaboration)🇵🇱

NA61/SHINE is a fixed target experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The main goals of the experiment are to discover the critical point of strongly interacting matter and to study the properties of the onset of deconfinement. In order to reach these goals, a study of hadron production properties is performed in nucleus-nucleus, proton-proton and proton-nucleus interactions as a function of collision energy and size of the colliding nuclei. In this talk, the newest preliminary results on kaon spectra produced in Ar+Sc collisions at three beam momenta (30A, 40A and 75A) will be shown. The distributions of transverse mass and rapidity will be compared with results of NA61/SHINE (p+p, Be+Be) and NA49 (Pb+Pb, C+C, Si+Si), as well as with available world data.

The effect of the fluctuating proton size on the study of chiral magnetic effect in proton-nucleus collisions

    Dmitri Kharzeev🇺🇸 · Zhoudunming Tu🇺🇸 · Aobo Zhang🇺🇸 · Wei Li🇺🇸

High energy proton-nucleus (pA) collisions provide an important constraint on the study of the chiral magnetic effect in QCD matter. Naively, in pA collisions one expects no correlation between the orientation of event plane as reconstructed from the azimuthal distribution of produced hadrons and the orientation of magnetic field. If this is the case, any charge-dependent hadron correlations can only result from the background. Nevertheless, in this paper we point out that in high multiplicity pA collisions a correlation between the magnetic field and the event plane can appear. This is because triggering on the high hadron multiplicity amounts to selecting Fock components of the incident proton with a large number of partons that are expected to have a transverse size much larger than the average proton size. We introduce the effect of the fluctuating proton size in the Monte Carlo Glauber model and evaluate the resulting correlation between the magnetic field and the second-order event plane in both pA and nucleus-nucleus (AA) collisions. The fluctuating proton size is found to result in a significant correlation between magnetic field and the event plane in pA collisions, even though the magnitude of the correlation is still much smaller than in AA collisions. This result opens a possibility of studying the chiral magnetic effect in small systems.

Revisiting the pseudoscalar meson and glueball mixing and key issues in the search for pseudscalar glueball state

    Wen Qin🇨🇳 · Qiang Zhao🇨🇳 · Xian-Hui Zhong🇨🇳

We revisit the mixing mechanism for pesudscalar mesons and glueball which is introduced by the axial vector anomaly. We demonstrate that the physical mass of the pseudoscalar glueball does not favor to be lower than 1.8 GeV if all the parameters are reasonably constrained. This conclusion, on the one hand, can accommodate the pseudoscalar glueball mass calculated by Lattice QCD, and on the other hand, is consistent with the high-statistics analyses at BESIII that all the available measurements do not support the presence of two closely overlapping pseudoscalar states in any exclusive channel. Such a result is in agreement with the recent claim that the slightly shifted peak positions for two possible states and observed in different channels are actually originated from one single state with the triangle singularity interferences. By resolving this long-standing paradox, one should pay more attention to higher mass region for the purpose of searching for the pseudoscalar glueball candidate.

Towards the full realization of the RIBLL2 beam line at the HIRFL-CSR complex

    Bao-Hua Sun🇨🇳 · Jian-Wei Zhao🇨🇳 · Xue-Heng Zhang🇨🇳 · Li-Na Sheng🇨🇳 · Zhi-Yu Sun🇨🇳 · Isao Tanihata🇨🇳 · Satoru Terashima🇨🇳 · Yong Zheng🇨🇳 · Li-Hua Zhu🇨🇳 · Li-Min Duan🇨🇳 · Liu-Chun He🇨🇳 · Rong-Jiang Hu🇨🇳 and 22 other authors

The RIBLL2 in-flight separator at IMP, the secondary beam line between two storage rings at the \blue{\uwave{Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-CSR)}}, has been commissioned to study the rare-isotope beam (RIB) physics at around 300 MeV/nucleon for the first time, in combination of the external target facility (ETF). The unambiguous particle identification in mass and charge states for O and Ar fragments has been achieved in recent experiments. A full realization of RIBLL2 will open many potentials to address important RIB physics problems at around 300 MeV/nucleon.

Wounded quark emission function at the top RHIC energy

    Michał Barej🇵🇱 · Adam Bzdak🇵🇱 · Paweł Gutowski🇵🇱

The wounded nucleon and quark emission functions are extracted for different centralities in d+Au collisions at using Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data. The shape of the emission function depends on centrality in the wounded nucleon model, whereas it is practically universal (within uncertainties) in the wounded quark model. Predictions for distributions in p+Au and He+Au collisions are presented.
