    Measurement of the ratio of the sixth order to the second order cumulant of net-proton multiplicity distributions in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

    We investigate the measurement of the sixth order cumulant and its ratio to the second order cumulant () in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The influence of statistics and different methods of centrality bin width correction on of net-proton multiplicity distributions is demonstrated. There is no satisfactory method to extract with the current statistics recorded at lower energies by STAR at RHIC. With statistics comparable to the expected statistics at the planned future RHIC Beam Energy Scan II (BES II), no energy dependence of is observed in central collisions using the UrQMD model. We find if the transition signal is as strong as predicted by the PQM model, then it is hopefully observed at the upcoming RHIC BES II.

    Collision energy dependence of elliptic flow splitting between particles and their antiparticles from an extended multiphase transport model

    Based on an extended multiphase transport model, which includes mean-field potentials in both the partonic and hadronic phases, uses the mix-event coalescence, and respects charge conservation during the hadronic evolution, we have studied the collision energy dependence of the elliptic flow splitting between particles and their antiparticles. This extended transport model reproduces reasonably well the experimental data at lower collision energies but only describes qualitatively the elliptic flow splitting at higher beam energies. The present study thus indicates the existence of other mechanisms for the elliptic flow splitting besides the mean-field potentials and the need of further improvements of the multiphase transport model.

    Enriched TeO bolometers with active particle discrimination: towards the CUPID experiment

    We present the performances of two 92% enriched TeO crystals operated as thermal bolometers in view of a next generation experiment to search for neutrinoless double beta decay of Te. The crystals, 435 g each, show an energy resolution, evaluated at the 2615 keV -line of Tl, of 6.5 and 4.3 keV FWHM. The only observable internal radioactive contamination arises from U (15 and 8 Bq/kg, respectively). The internal activity of the most problematic nuclei for neutrinoless double beta decay, Ra and Th, are both evaluated as 3.1 Bq/kg for one crystal and 2.3 Bq/kg for the second. Thanks to the readout of the weak Cherenkov light emitted by particles by means of Neganov-Luke bolometric light detectors we were able to perform an event-by-event identification of events with a 95% acceptance level, while establishing a rejection factor of 98.21% and 99.99% for particles.
