    Results from (anti-)(hyper-)nuclei production and searches for exotic bound states with ALICE at the LHC

    The excellent particle identification capabilities of the ALICE detector, using the time projection chamber and the time-of-flight detector, allow the detection of light nuclei and anti-nuclei. Furthermore, the high tracking resolution provided by the inner tracking system enables the separation of primary nuclei from those coming from the decay of heavier systems. This allows for the reconstruction of decays such as the hypertriton mesonic weak decay (HHe + ), the decay of a hypothetical bound state of a n into a deuteron and pion or the H-dibaryon decaying into a , a proton and a . An overview of the production of stable nuclei and anti-nuclei in proton-proton, proton-lead and, in particular, lead-lead collisions is presented. Hypernuclei production rates in Pb--Pb are also shown, together with the upper limits estimated on the production of hypothetical exotica candidates. The results are compared with predictions for the production in thermal (statistical) and coalescence models.

    production at low transverse momentum in p+p and d+Au collisions at = 200 GeV

    We report on the measurement of production in the dielectron channel at mid-rapidity (|y|<1) in p+p and d+Au collisions at = 200 GeV from the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The transverse momentum spectra in p+p for < 4 GeV/c and d+Au collisions for < 3 GeV/c are presented. These measurements extend the STAR coverage for production in p+p collisions to low . The from the measured invariant cross section in p+p and d+Au collisions are evaluated and compared to similar measurements at other collision energies. The nuclear modification factor for is extracted as a function of and collision centrality in d+Au and compared to model calculations using the modified nuclear Parton Distribution Function and a final-state nuclear absorption cross section.

    Statistical-noise reduction in correlation analysis of high-energy nuclear collisions with event-mixing

    The error propagation and statistical-noise reduction method of Reid and Trainor for two-point correlation applications in high-energy collisions is extended to include particle-pair references constructed by mixing two particles from all event-pair combinations within event subsets of arbitrary size. The Reid-Trainor method is also applied to other particle-pair mixing algorithms commonly used in correlation analysis of particle production from high-energy nuclear collisions. The statistical-noise reduction, inherent in the Reid-Trainor event-mixing procedure, is shown to occur for these other event-mixing algorithms as well. Monte Carlo simulation results are presented which verify the predicted degree of noise reduction. In each case the final errors are determined by the bin-wise particle-pair number, rather than by the bin-wise single-particle count.

    Spectroscopy of ultracold neutrons using diffraction by a moving grating

    Spectra of ultracold neutrons that appeared in experiments on neutron diffraction by a moving grating were measured using the time-of-flight Fourier spectrometer. Diffraction lines of five orders were observed simultaneously. The obtained data are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions based on the multiwave dynamical theory of neutron diffraction by a moving grating.

    The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory

    This review paper provides a summary of the published results of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) experiment that was carried out by an international scientific collaboration with data collected during the period from 1999 to 2006. By using heavy water as a detection medium, the SNO experiment demonstrated clearly that solar electron neutrinos from B decay in the solar core change into other active neutrino flavors in transit to Earth. The reaction on deuterium that has equal sensitivity to all active neutrino flavors also provides a very accurate measure of the initial solar flux for comparison with solar models. This review summarizes the results from three phases of solar neutrino detection as well as other physics results obtained from analyses of the SNO data.

    Extension of the energy range of the experimental activation cross-sections data of longer-lived products of proton induced nuclear reactions on dysprosium up to 65 MeV

    Activation cross-sections data of longer-lived products of proton induced nuclear reactions on dysprosium were extended up to 65 MeV by using stacked foil irradiation and gamma spectrometry experimental methods. Experimental cross-sections data for the formation of the radionuclides Dy, Dy, Dy, Tb, Tb, Tb, Tb, Tb, Tb, Tb, Tb, Tb and Tb are reported in the 36-65 MeV energy range, and compared with an old dataset from 1964. The experimental data were also compared with the results of cross section calculations of the ALICE and EMPIRE nuclear model codes and of the TALYS nuclear reaction model code as listed in the latest on-line libraries TENDL 2013.

    Nuclear effects in deep inelastic scattering and transition region

    We discuss nuclear effects on neutrino-nuclear interactions in a wide kinematical range from shallow to deep inelastic scattering (DIS) region. There is necessity from neutrino communities to have precise neutrino-nucleus cross sections for future measurements on neutrino oscillations and leptonic CP violation. We try to create a model to calculate neutrino cross sections in the wide kinematical range, from quasi-elastic scattering and resonance productions to the DIS. In this article, nuclear modifications of structure functions are mainly discussed, and a possible extension to the region is explained. We also comment on the transition region between baryon resonances and the DIS. There are ongoing experimental efforts on nuclear modifications of structure functions or parton distribution functions such as by pA reactions at RHIC and LHC, Drell-Yan measurements at Fermilab, Minera neutrino DIS, and charged-lepton DIS at JLab.

    The CDEX Dark Matter Program at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory

    The China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL) is a new facility for conducting low event-rate experiments. We present an overview of CJPL and the CDEX Dark Matter program based on germanium detectors with sub-keV sensitivities. The achieved results, status as well as the R&D and technology acquisition efforts towards a ton-scale experiment are reported.

    Light-quark baryon spectroscopy within ANL-Osaka dynamical coupled-channels approach

    Recent results on the study of light-quark baryons with the ANL-Osaka dynamical coupled-channels (DCC) approach are presented, which contain the N* and Delta* spectroscopy via the analysis of pi N and gamma N reactions and the Lambda* and Sigma* spectroscopy via the analysis of K- p reactions. A recent application of our DCC approach to neutrino-nucleon reactions in the resonance region is also presented.
