    Production of K(892) and (1020) in p-Pb collisions at = 5.02 TeV

    The production of K(892) and (1020) mesons has been measured in p-Pb collisions at = 5.02 TeV. K and are reconstructed via their decay into charged hadrons with the ALICE detector in the rapidity range . The transverse momentum spectra, measured as a function of the multiplicity, have p range from 0 to 15 GeV/ for K and from 0.3 to 21 GeV/ for . Integrated yields, mean transverse momenta and particle ratios are reported and compared with results in pp collisions at = 7 TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV. In Pb-Pb and p-Pb collisions, K and probe the hadronic phase of the system and contribute to the study of particle formation mechanisms by comparison with other identified hadrons. For this purpose, the mean transverse momenta and the differential proton-to- ratio are discussed as a function of the multiplicity of the event. The short-lived K is measured to investigate re-scattering effects, believed to be related to the size of the system and to the lifetime of the hadronic phase.

    The production of mesons is studied in dimuon final states using proton-lead collision data collected by the LHCb detector. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of . The nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of the proton-lead collisions is . The measurement is performed using mesons with transverse momentum less than and rapidity in the ranges and in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. The forward-backward production ratio and the nuclear modification factor are determined for mesons. Using the production cross-section results of and mesons from -hadron decays, the cross-section in pPb collisions at is obtained.

    Predictions for TeV Pb+Pb Collisions from a Multi-Phase Transport Model

    We present predictions from the string melting version of a multi-phase transport model on various observables in Pb+Pb collisions at TeV. We use the same version of the model as an earlier study that reasonably reproduced dN/dy, -spectra and elliptic flow of charged pions and kaons at low- for central and semi-central heavy ion collisions at 200 GeV and 2.76 TeV. While we compare with the already-available centrality dependence data on charged particle at mid-pseudorapidity in Pb+Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV, we make predictions on identified particle dN/dy, -spectra, azimuthal anisotropies , and factorization ratios for longitudinal correlations.

    Emergent properties of nuclei from ab initio coupled-cluster calculations

    Emergent properties such as nuclear saturation and deformation, and the effects on shell structure due to the proximity of the scattering continuum and particle decay channels are fascinating phenomena in atomic nuclei. In recent years, ab initio approaches to nuclei have taken the first steps towards tackling the computational challenge of describing these phenomena from Hamiltonians with microscopic degrees of freedom. This endeavor is now possible due to ideas from effective field theories, novel optimization strategies for nuclear interactions, ab initio methods exhibiting a soft scaling with mass number, and ever-increasing computational power. This paper reviews some of the recent accomplishments. We also present new results. The recently optimized chiral interaction NNLO is shown to provide an accurate description of both charge radii and binding energies in selected light- and medium-mass nuclei up to Ni. We derive an efficient scheme for including continuum effects in coupled-cluster computations of nuclei based on chiral nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon forces, and present new results for unbound states in the neutron-rich isotopes of oxygen and calcium. The coupling to the continuum impacts the energies of the states in O, and - contrary to naive shell-model expectations - the level ordering of the states in Ca.

    Separated flow operation of the SHARAQ spectrometer for in-flight proton decay experiments

    New operation mode, "separated flow mode", has been developed for in-flight proton decay experiments with the SHARAQ spectrometer. In the separated flow mode, the protons and the heavy-ion products are separated and measured in coincidence at two different focal planes of SHARAQ. The ion-optical properties of the new mode were studied by using a proton beam at , and the momentum vector was properly reconstructed from the parameters measured in the focal plane of SHARAQ. In the experiment with the reaction at a beam energy of , the outgoing produced by the decay of were measured in coincidence with SHARAQ. High energy resolutions of (FWHM) and were achieved for the relative energy of , and the energy of , respectively.
