Using a mulit-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph (MRTOF-MS) located after a gas cell coupled with the gas-filled recoil ion separator GARIS-II, the masses of several heavy nuclei have been directly and precisely measured. The nuclei were produced via fusion-evaporation reactions and separated from projectile-like and target-like particles using GARIS-II before being stopped in a helium-filled gas cell. Time-of-flight spectra for three isobar chains, 205Fr-205Rn-205At-205Po, 206Fr-206Rn-206At and 201Rn-201At-201Po-201Bi, were observed. Precision atomic mass values were determined for 205,206Fr, 201At, and 201Po.

Search for the eta-mesic Helium bound state with the WASA-at-COSY facility

    M. Skurzok🇵🇱 · W. Krzemien🇵🇱 · O. Rundel🇵🇱 · P. Moskal🇵🇱

We performed a search for 4He-eta bound state with high statistics and high acceptance with the WASA-at-COSY facility using a ramped beam technique. The signature of eta-mesic nuclei is searched for in dd -> 3Henpi0 and dd -> 3Heppi- reactions by the measurement of the excitation functions in the vicinity of the {\eta} production threshold. This paper presents the experimental method and the preliminary results of the data analysis for dd -> 3Henpi0 process.

Experimental Evidence of a Bonded Dineutron Existence

    I.M. Kadenko🇺🇦

Experimental observation of 159Tb(n,2n) reaction product was performed with application of the activation technique. Tb specimen of natural composition was irradiated with (d,d) neutrons of 5.39 and 7 MeV energy at the AMANDE neutron generating facility. Several instrumental spectra of Tb specimen were measured with HPGe spectrometer in 1.5 years after last irradiation. An unexpected 944.2 keV {\gamma}-ray peak was observed. Other {\gamma}-ray lines of 158Tb were identified as well. A bonded dineutron emission with the binding energy (Bdn) within limitations 1.3 MeV < Bdn < 2.8 MeV is evidenced by the energy of incident neutrons and by 158Tb presence in output channel. The specific nuclear properties of 158Tb as deformed nucleus were then discussed to explain a bonded dineutron formation with certain half-lives based on theoretical assumptions and corresponding calculations, using standard parameters for this mass region.

Measurement of the dependence of transverse energy production at large pseudorapidity on the hard-scattering kinematics of proton-proton collisions at TeV with ATLAS

    ATLAS Collaboration

The relationship between jet production in the central region and the underlying-event activity in a pseudorapidity-separated region is studied in 4.0 pb of TeV collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The underlying event is characterised through measurements of the average value of the sum of the transverse energy at large pseudorapidity downstream of one of the protons, which are reported here as a function of hard-scattering kinematic variables. The hard scattering is characterised by the average transverse momentum and pseudorapidity of the two highest transverse momentum jets in the event. The dijet kinematics are used to estimate, on an event-by-event basis, the scaled longitudinal momenta of the hard-scattered partons in the target and projectile beam-protons moving toward and away from the region measuring transverse energy, respectively. Transverse energy production at large pseudorapidity is observed to decrease with a linear dependence on the longitudinal momentum fraction in the target proton and to depend only weakly on that in the projectile proton. The results are compared to the predictions of various Monte Carlo event generators, which qualitatively reproduce the trends observed in data but generally underpredict the overall level of transverse energy at forward pseudorapidity.

Fast-neutron induced background in LaBr3:Ce detectors

    J. Kiener🇫🇷 · V. Tatischeff🇫🇷 · I. Deloncle🇫🇷 · N. de Séréville🇫🇷 · P. Laurent🇫🇷 · C. Blondel🇫🇷 · M. Chabot🇫🇷 · R. Chipaux · A. Coc🇫🇷 · S. Dubos · A. Gostojic̀🇫🇷 · N. Goutev and 8 other authors

The response of a scintillation detector with a cylindrical 1.5-inch LaBr3:Ce crystal to incident neutrons has been measured in the energy range En = 2-12 MeV. Neutrons were produced by proton irradiation of a Li target at Ep = 5-14.6 MeV with pulsed proton beams. Using the time-of-flight information between target and detector, energy spectra of the LaBr3:Ce detector resulting from fast neutron interactions have been obtained at 4 different neutron energies. Neutron-induced gamma rays emitted by the LaBr3:Ce crystal were also measured in a nearby Ge detector at the lowest proton beam energy. In addition, we obtained data for neutron irradiation of a large-volume high-purity Ge detector and of a NE-213 liquid scintillator detector, both serving as monitor detectors in the experiment. Monte-Carlo type simulations for neutron interactions in the liquid scintillator, the Ge and LaBr3:Ce crystals have been performed and compared with measured data. Good agreement being obtained with the data, we present the results of simulations to predict the response of LaBr3:Ce detectors for a range of crystal sizes to neutron irradiation in the energy range En = 0.5-10 MeV
