    Method of active correlations for DSSSD detector application

    Real-time PC based algorithm is developed for DSSSD ( Double Side Silicon Strip Detector) detector. Brief description of the detection system is also presented. Complete fusion nuclear reaction natYb+48Ca->217Th is used to test this algorithm at 48Ca beam. Example of successful application of a former algorithm for resistive strip PIPS detector is presented too.

    Oscillations at low energies

    A concise summary of the "Oscillation at low energies" parallel session at the 2014 Neutrino Oscillation Workshop is provided. Plans to use man-made neutrinos and antineutrinos to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy, search for sterile neutrinos, and to observe coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering were discussed. Potential measurements of solar neutrinos, supernova neutrinos, and geoneutrinos are also summarized.

    Dynamical coupled-channels model of reactions (II): Extraction of and hyperon resonances

    Resonance parameters (pole masses and residues) associated with the excited states of hyperons, Lambda^* and Sigma^*, are extracted within a dynamical coupled-channels model developed recently by us [Phys. Rev. C 90, 065204 (2014)] through a comprehensive partial-wave analysis of the K^- p --> barK N, pi Sigma, pi Lambda, eta Lambda, K Xi data up to invariant mass W = 2.1 GeV. We confirm the existence of resonances corresponding to most, if not all, of the four-star resonances rated by the Particle Data Group. We also find several new resonances, and in particular propose a possible existence of a new narrow J^P=3/2^+ Lambda resonance that couples strongly to the eta Lambda channel. The J^P=1/2^- Lambda resonances located below the barK N threshold are also discussed. Comparing our extracted pole masses with the ones from a recent analysis by the Kent State University group, some significant differences in the extracted resonance parameters are found, suggesting the need of more extensive and accurate data of K^- p reactions including polarization observables to eliminate such an analysis dependence of the resonance parameters. In addition, the determined large branching ratios of the decays of high-mass resonances to the pi Sigma^* and barK^* N channels also suggest the importance of the data of 2 --> 3 reactions such as K^- p --> pi pi Lambda and K^- p --> pi barK N. Experiments on measuring cross sections and polarization observables of these fundamental reactions are highly desirable at hadron beam facilities such as J-PARC for establishing the Lambda^* and Sigma^* spectrum.

    A new reasonable scenario to search for ER-alpha energy-time-position correlated sequences in a real time mode

    A new real-time PC based algorithm and a compact C++ code to operate in a real-time mode with a 48x128 strip double side position sensitive large area silicon radiation detector Micron Semiconductors (UK) are developed and tested. Namely with this new approach it has become possible to provide the quick extraction of EVR-alpha correlated sequences in heavy ion induced complete fusion nuclear reactions. Specific attention is paid to the application of new CAMAC 4 M modules for charge particle position measurement during long- term experiments aimed to the synthesis of new superheavy nuclei. Some attention is paid to the different (combined) algorithm scenario to search for ER-alpha and alpha-alpha chains.

    Development of Active Correlation Technique

    With reaching to extremely high intensities of heavy-ion beams new requirements for the detection system of the Dubna Gas-Filled Recoil Separator (DGFRS) will definitely be set. One of the challenges is how to apply the active correlations method to suppress beam associated background products without significant losses in the whole long-term experiment efficiency value. Different scenarios and equations to develop the method according this requirement are under consideration in the present paper. The execution time to estimate the dead time parameter associated with the optimal choice of the life-time parameter is presented.

    Three sources and three components of success in detection of ultra-rare alpha decays at the Dubna Gas-Filled Recoil separator

    General philosophy of procedure of detecting rare events in the recent experiments with 48Ca projectile at the Dubna Gas-Filled Recoil Separator(DGFRS) aimed to the synthesis of superheavy elements (SHE) has been reviewed. Specific instruments and methods are under consideration. Some historical sources of the successful experiments for Z=112-118 are considered too. Special attention is paid to application of method of active correlations in heavy-ion induced complete fusion nuclear reactions. Example of application in Z=115 experiment is presented. Brief description of the 243Am + 48Ca -> 291-x115+xn experiment is presented too. Some attention is paid to the role of chemical experiments in discoveries of SHEs. The DGFRS detection/monitoring system is presented in full firstly.

    C++ Builder 6.0 CEDV code for files processing

    A RAD C++ Builder's 6.0 code CEDV under Windows XP has been designed for visualizing data obtained from heavy-ion-induced complete fusion reactions at the main U-400 cyclotron of FLNR. The main purpose of the code is processing the data from the experiments aimed to at studying chemical properties of SHE. Data from the Dubna Gas -Filled Recoil Separator could be processed too. Some subroutines for estimating statistical parameter are also presented ; these are based on modified BSC (background signal combination) approaches.

    REDSTORM C++ Builder code for a new DGFRS detection system

    REal-time Detection and STORage of Multy-chain events Builder C++ code has been designed to operate together with the new DGFRS detection system in FLNR, JINR. It allows to provide event by event storage and real-time search for ER-alpha sequences both for 32 strip position sensitive PIPS detector (CANBERRA NV) or 48x128 strip DSSSD detector (Micron Semiconductors). In the last case it operates in parallel with the ORNL digital system. Namely with this code (PIPS detector branch) it has become possible to detect 13 decay chains of Z=117 nuclei in the reaction 249Bk+48Ca-> 117+3,4n.

    Radioluminescence and photoluminescence of Th:CaF crystals

    We study thorium-doped CaF crystals as a possible platform for optical spectroscopy of the Th-229 nuclear isomer transition. We anticipate two major sources of background signal that might cover the nuclear spectroscopy signal: VUV-photoluminescence, caused by the probe light, and radioluminescence, caused by the radioactive decay of Th-229 and its daughters. We find a rich photoluminescence spectrum at wavelengths above 260 nm, and radioluminescence emission above 220 nm. This is very promising, as fluorescence originating from the isomer transition, predicted at a wavelength shorter than 200 nm, could be filtered spectrally from the crystal luminescence. Furthermore, we investigate the temperature-dependent decay time of the luminescence, as well as thermoluminescence properties. Our findings allow for an immediate optimization of spectroscopy protocols for both the initial search for the nuclear transition using synchrotron radiation, as well as future optical clock operation with narrow-linewidth lasers.
