    Ramsey's Method of Separated Oscillating Fields and its Application to Gravitationally Induced Quantum Phaseshifts

    We propose to apply Ramsey's method of separated oscillating fields to the spectroscopy of the quantum states in the gravity potential above a vertical mirror. This method allows a precise measurement of quantum mechanical phaseshifts of a Schrödinger wave packet bouncing off a hard surface in the gravitational field of the earth. Measurements with ultra-cold neutrons will offer a sensitivity to Newton's law or hypothetical short-ranged interactions, which is about 21 orders of magnitude below the energy scale of electromagnetism.

    Modification of jet-like correlations in Pb-Au at the SPS

    A high statistics study of high- two-particle azimuthal correlations in Pb-Au at GeV, performed by the CERES experiment at the CERN-SPS, is presented. A broad away-side correlation with significant dip at is observed. The shape and magnitude of the correlation is similar to measurements at RHIC. In comparison to PYTHIA calculations, we observe a significant excess of soft particles at the away-side. A study of charge correlations between trigger and associated particles disfavors vacuum fragmentation of the away-side jet and suggests significant energy transfer of the hard-scattered parton to the medium.

    Two parity violating asymmetries from in pionless effective field theories

    We consider parity-violating observables from the processes and . We perform calculations using pionless effective field theory both with and without explicit dibaryon fields. After combining these results with ones we have already obtained on parity-violating asymmetries in scattering, experimental input would in principle allow the extraction of all five parameters occurring at leading order in the parity-violating Lagrangian.

    The phi meson at high temperatures and densities

    The spectral density of the phi meson in a hot bath of nucleons and pions is calculated by relating the vector meson self-energy to the forward scattering amplitude, which is constrained by experimental data. Dispersion techniques are used to verify the relationship between real and the imaginary parts of the in-medium self energy. The position of the spectral peak of the phi meson is found to be shifted from its vacuum position by only a small amount, but its width is considerably increased.
