    Measurement of the incoherent photoproduction near threshold

    We report measurements of differential cross sections and decay asymmetries of incoherent -meson photoproduction from the deuteron at forward angles using linearly polarized photons at \Eg=1.5-2.4 GeV. The nuclear transparency ratio for the deuteron shows a large suppression, and is consistent with the A-dependence of the ratio observed in a previous measurement with nuclear targets. The reduction for the deuteron cannot be adequately explained in term of isospin asymmetry. The present results suggest the need of refining our understanding of the -N interaction within a nucleus.

    Knockout of proton-neutron pairs from O with electromagnetic probes

    After recent improvements to the Pavia model of two-nucleon knockout from O with electromagnetic probes the calculated cross sections are compared to experimental data from such reactions. Comparison with data from a measurement of the O(e,epn) reaction show much better agreement between experiment and theory than was previously observed. In a comparison with recent data from a measurement of the O(,pn) reaction the model over-predicts the measured cross section at low missing momentum.

    Superscaling of non-quasielastic electron-nucleus scattering

    The present study is focused on the superscaling behavior of electron-nucleus cross sections in the region lying above the quasielastic peak, especially the region dominated by electroexcitation of the Delta. Non-quasielastic cross sections are obtained from all available high-quality data for Carbon 12 by subtracting effective quasielastic cross sections based on the superscaling hypothesis. These residuals are then compared with results obtained within a scaling-based extension of the relativistic Fermi gas model, including an investigation of violations of scaling of the first kind in the region above the quasielastic peak. A way potentially to isolate effects related to meson-exchange currents by subtracting both impulsive quasielastic and impulsive inelastic contributions from the experimental cross sections is also presented.
