Model-independent comparison of annual modulation and total rate with direct detection experiments

    Felix Kahlhoefer🇩🇪 · Florian Reindl🇦🇹 · Karoline Schäffner🇮🇹 · Kai Schmidt-Hoberg🇩🇪 · Sebastian Wild🇩🇪

The relative sensitivity of different direct detection experiments depends sensitively on the astrophysical distribution and particle physics nature of dark matter, prohibiting a model-independent comparison. The situation changes fundamentally if two experiments employ the same target material. We show that in this case one can compare measurements of an annual modulation and exclusion bounds on the total rate while making no assumptions on astrophysics and no (or only very general) assumptions on particle physics. In particular, we show that the dark matter interpretation of the DAMA/LIBRA signal can be conclusively tested with COSINUS, a future experiment employing the same target material. We find that if COSINUS excludes a dark matter scattering rate of about with an energy threshold of keV and resolution of keV, it will rule out all explanations of DAMA/LIBRA in terms of dark matter scattering off sodium and/or iodine.

Polarization effects due to dark matter interaction between massive standard particles

    Fernand M Renard🇫🇷

We propose deeper tests of the existence of DM interactions between heavy particles in by looking at the effects on final state polarization. We show that indeed , and polarization are particularly sensitive to the structure of these interactions, to their relation with the origin of the masses and to the quantum numbers of the possibly exchanged dark particles.

Sivers effect in Inelastic Photoproduction in Collision in Color Octet Model

    Sangem Rajesh🇮🇳 · Raj Kishore🇮🇳 · Asmita Mukherjee🇮🇳

The prediction of single-spin asymmetry in inelastic photoproduction of in collision is presented. At next-to-leading order, the dominating process is photon-gluon fusion, for the production of in , which directly probes the gluon Sivers function. Using the non-relativistic QCD based color octet model, the color octet states , and contribution to production is calculated. Sizable asymmetry is estimated as a function of transverse momentum and energy fraction of in the range GeV and . The unpolarized differential cross section of inelastic photoproduction is found to be in good agreement with H1 and ZEUS data.

Investigation of Dark Matter in the 3-2-3-1 Model

    D. T. Huong🇻🇳 · P. V. Dong🇻🇳 · N. T. Duy🇻🇳 · N. T. Nhuan🇻🇳 · L. D. Thien🇻🇳

We prove that the (3-2-3-1) gauge model always contains a matter parity as conserved residual gauge symmetry, where is a charge. Due to the non-Abelian nature of , the -odd and -even fields are actually unified in gauge multiplets. We investigate two viable versions for dark matter according to , where the dark matter candidates can be fermion, scalar, or vector fields. We figure out the parameter spaces in the allowed regions of the relic density and direct detection cross-sections. Additionally, we examine the neutrino masses induced by the seesaw mechanism along with associated lepton flavor violation processes. The new gauge boson searches at the LEPII and LHC are discussed.

Scattering in an Improved Many Body Potential

    S. M. Sohail Gilani🇵🇰 · M. Imran Jamil🇵🇰 · Bilal Masud🇵🇰 · Faisal Akram🇵🇰

We calculate the cross-sections for the processes , () and using a QCD-motivated many-body overlap factor to modify the usual sum of two-body interaction model. The realistic Cornell potential has been used for pairwise interaction in the four quark Hamiltonian and noted to give lesser cross-sections as compared to the quadratic potential. The Resonating group method is employed along with the Born approximation which decouples its integral equations. It is pointed out that the additional QCD effect (a gluonic field ovelap factor) result in a significant suppression in the cross sections as compared to the more popular sum of two-body interaction.

Electroweak phase transition in the SM - I: Dimensional reduction

    Lauri Niemi🇫🇮 · Hiren H. Patel🇺🇸 · Michael J. Ramsey-Musolf🇺🇸 · Tuomas V. I. Tenkanen🇫🇮 · David J. Weir🇫🇮

In a series of two papers, we make a comparative analysis of the performance of conventional perturbation theory to analyze electroweak phase transition in the real triplet extension of Standard Model (SM). In Part I (this paper), we derive and present the high- dimensionally reduced effective theory that is suitable for numerical simulation on the lattice. In the sequel (Part II), we will present results of the numerical simulation and benchmark the performance of conventional perturbation theory. Under the assumption that is heavy, the resulting effective theory takes the same form as that derived from the minimal standard model. By recasting the existing non-perturbative results, we map out the phase diagram of the model in the plane of triplet mass and Higgs portal coupling . Contrary to conventional perturbation theory, we find regions of parameter space where the phase transition may be first order, second order, or crossover. We comment on prospects for prospective future colliders to probe the region where the electroweak phase transition is first order by a precise measurement of the partial width.

Are there monopoles in the quark-gluon plasma?

    Adith Ramamurti🇺🇸 · Edward Shuryak🇺🇸 · Ismail Zahed🇺🇸

Monopole-like objects have been identified in multiple lattice studies, and there is now a significant amount of literature on their importance in phenomenology. Some analytic indications of their role, however, are still missing. The 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles, originally derived in the Georgi-Glashow model, are an important dynamical ingredient in theories with extended supersymmetry , and help explain the issues related with electric-magnetic duality. There is no such solution in QCD-like theories without scalar fields. However, all of these theories have instantons and their finite- constituents known as instanton-dyons (or instanton-monopoles). The latter leads to semiclassical partition functions, which for theories were shown to be identical ("Poisson dual") to the partition function for monopoles. We show how, in a pure gauge theory, the semiclassical instanton-based partition function can also be Poisson-transformed into a partition function, interpreted as the one of moving and rotating monopoles.

Higgs and Assisted Stop Searches at Hadron Colliders

Shufang Su🇺🇸 · Huanian Zhang (Univ of Arizona)🇺🇸

Current searches for the light top squark (stop) mostly focus on the decay channels of or , leading to final states for stop pair productions at the LHC. However, in supersymmetric scenarios with light neutralinos and charginos other than the neutralino lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), more than one decay mode of the stop could be dominant. While those new decay modes could significantly weaken the current stop search limits at the LHC, they also offer alternative discovery channels for stop searches. In this paper, we studied the scenario with light Higgsino next-to-LSPs (NLSPs) and Bino LSP. The light stop decays primarily via , with the neutralinos subsequent decaying to a boson or a Higgs boson: . Pair production of light stops at the LHC leads to final states of , or . We consider three signal regions: one charged lepton (1), two opposite sign charged leptons (2 OS ) and at least three charged leptons (). We found that the 1 signal region of channel has the best reach sensitivity for light stop searches. For 14 TeV LHC with 300 integrated luminosity, a stop mass up to 900 GeV can be discovered at 5 significance, or up to 1050 GeV can be excluded at 95\% C.L. Combining all three decay channels for signal region extends the reach for about 100150 GeV. We also studied the stop reach at the 100 TeV collider with 3 luminosity, with discovery and exclusion reach being 6 TeV and 7 TeV, respectively.

Exclusive double quarkonium production and generalized TMDs of gluons

    Shohini Bhattacharya🇺🇸 · Andreas Metz🇺🇸 · Vikash Kumar Ojha🇨🇳 · Jeng-Yuan Tsai🇺🇸 · Jian Zhou🇨🇳

Being the "mother distributions" of all types of two-parton correlation functions, generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (GTMDs) have attracted a lot of attention over the last years. We argue that exclusive double production of pseudoscalar quarkonia ( or ) in nucleon-nucleon collisions gives access to GTMDs of gluons.

Galactic Dark Matter Population as the Source of Neutrino Masses

    Hooman Davoudiasl🇺🇸 · Gopolang Mohlabeng🇺🇸 · Matthew Sullivan🇺🇸

We propose that neutrino masses can be zero and may be generated by the local distribution of dark matter through a feeble long range scalar force. We discuss potential phenomenological constraints and implications of this framework. Our model typically implies that the relic neutrino background left over from the Big Bang is mostly absent in our Galactic neighborhood. Hence, a positive detection signal from future proposed experiments, such as PTOLEMY, could in principle falsify our scenario.

    Theta in new QCD-like sectors

    Patrick Draper🇺🇸 · Jonathan Kozaczuk🇺🇸 · Jiang-Hao Yu🇺🇸

New QCD-like `hypercolor' sectors can generate a broad class of new signatures at hadron colliders and furnish a variety of dark matter candidates. Paired diboson resonances are a particularly important collider signature, arising both from -conserving vector hypermeson decays of the form and from -violating pseudoscalar hypermeson decays of the form . The latter are sensitive to the vacuum angle in the hypercolor sector. We study single- and paired-diboson resonance signatures in final states involving gluons and photons at the LHC and a future 100 TeV collider, illustrating the discovery potential at both colliders in simple benchmark models. We also describe some of the theoretical and cosmological consequences of . If -violating hypermeson decays are observable at hadron colliders, ordinary QCD must have an axion. Such scenarios also provide a natural setting for a dark pion component of dark matter, with its relic abundance set by -violating annihilations. If the new vacuum angle is relaxed to zero by a dark axion, the relic density can instead be a mixture of axions and dark axions. Overproduction of dark axions is most easily avoided if the universe underwent a period of early matter domination.

Common exotic decays of top partners

    Nicolas Bizot🇫🇷 · Giacomo Cacciapaglia🇫🇷 · Thomas Flacke🇰🇷

Many standard model extensions that address the hierarchy problem contain Dirac-fermion partners of the top quark, which are typically expected around the TeV scale. Searches for these vector-like quarks mostly focus on their decay into electroweak gauge bosons and Higgs plus a standard model quark. In this article, backed by models of composite Higgs, we propose a set of simplified scenarios, with effective Lagrangians and benchmarks, that include more exotic decay channels, which modify the search strategies and affect the bounds. Analysing several classes of underlying models, we show that exotic decays are the norm and commonly appear with significant rates. All these models contain light new scalars that couple to top partners with charge , , and .

The correlation of extragalactic -rays with cosmic matter density distributions from weak-gravitational lensing

    Masato Shirasaki🇯🇵 · Oscar Macias🇺🇸 · Shunsaku Horiuchi🇺🇸 · Naoki Yoshida🇯🇵 · Chien-Hsiu Lee🇺🇸 · Atsushi J. Nishizawa🇯🇵

The extragalactic -ray background (EGB) arises from the accumulation of -ray emissions from resolved and unresolved extragalactic sources as well as diffuse processes. It is important to study the statistical properties of the EGB in the context of cosmological structure formation. Known astrophysical -ray sources such as blazars, star-forming galaxies, and radio galaxies are expected to trace the underlying cosmic matter density distribution. We explore the correlation of the EGB from Fermi-LAT data with the large-scale matter density distribution from the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) SSP survey. We reconstruct an unbiased surface matter density distribution at by applying weak-gravitational lensing analysis to the first-year HSC data. We then calculate the cross-correlation. Our measurements are consistent with a null detection, but a weak correlation is found at angular scales of 30-60 arcmin, especially when distant source galaxies at are used for the lensing reconstruction. The large-scale correlation suggests strong clustering of high-redshift -ray sources such as blazars. However, the inferred bias factor of is larger by about a factor of two than results from other clustering analyses. The final HSC data covering 1,400 squared degrees will play an essential role to determine accurately the blazar bias at .

    Safe and free instantons

    Francesco Sannino🇩🇰 · Vedran Skrinjar🇮🇹

We investigate the instanton dynamics of asymptotically safe and free quantum field theories featuring respectively controllable ultraviolet and infrared fixed points. We start by briefly reviewing the salient points about the instanton calculus for pure Yang Mills (YM) and QCD. We then move on to determine the role of instantons within the controllable regime of the QCD conformal window. In this region we add a fermion-mass operator and determine the density of instantons per unit volume as function of the fermion mass. Finally, for the first time, we extend the instanton calculus to asymptotically safe theories.

A Primer on Resurgent Transseries and Their Asymptotics

    Inês Aniceto🇺🇸 · Gökçe Başar🇺🇸 · Ricardo Schiappa🇺🇸

The computation of observables in general interacting theories, be them quantum mechanical, field, gauge or string theories, is a non-trivial problem which in many cases can only be addressed by resorting to perturbative methods. In most physically interesting problems these perturbative expansions result in asymptotic series with zero radius of convergence. These asymptotic series then require the use of resurgence and transseries in order for the associated observables to become nonperturbatively well-defined. Resurgence encodes the complete large-order asymptotic behaviour of the coefficients from a perturbative expansion, generically in terms of (multi) instanton sectors and for each problem in terms of its Stokes constants. Some observables arise from linear problems, and have a finite number of instanton sectors and associated Stokes constants; some other observables arise from nonlinear problems, and have an infinite number of instanton sectors and Stokes constants. By means of two very explicit examples, and with emphasis on a pedagogical style of presentation, this work aims at serving as a primer on the aforementioned resurgent, large-order asymptotics of general perturbative expansions. This includes discussions of transseries, Stokes phenomena, generalized steepest-descent methods, Borel transforms, nonlinear resonance, and alien calculus. Furthermore, resurgent properties of transseries---usually described mathematically via alien calculus---are recast in equivalent physical languages: either a "statistical mechanical" language, as motions in chains and lattices; or a "conformal field theoretical" language, with underlying Virasoro-like algebraic structures.
