-portal right-handed neutrino dark matter in the minimal U(1) extended Standard Model

    Nobuchika Okada🇺🇸 · Satomi Okada🇯🇵

We consider a concise dark matter (DM) scenario in the context of a non-exotic U(1) extension of the Standard Model (SM), where a new U(1) gauge symmetry is introduced along with three generation of right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) and an SM gauge singlet Higgs field. The model is a generalization of the minimal gauged U(1) (baryon number minus lepton number) extension of the SM, in which the extra U(1) gauge symmetry is expressed as a linear combination of the SM U(1) and U(1) gauge symmetries. We introduce a -parity and assign an odd-parity only for one RHN among all particles, so that this -odd RHN plays a role of DM. The so-called minimal seesaw mechanism is implemented in this model with only two -even RHNs. In this context, we investigate physics of the RHN DM, focusing on the case that this DM particle communicates with the SM particles through the U(1) gauge boson ( boson). This "-portal RHN DM" scenario is controlled by only three free parameters: the U(1) gauge coupling (), the boson mass (), and the U(1) charge of the SM Higgs doublet (). We consider various phenomenological constraints to identify a phenomenologically viable parameter space. The most important constraints are the observed DM relic abundance and the latest LHC Run-2 results on the search for a narrow resonance with the di-lepton final state. We find that these are complementary with each other and narrow the allowed parameter region, leading to the lower mass bound of TeV.

    Hua-Xing Chen🇨🇳 · Qiang Mao🇨🇳 · Atsushi Hosaka🇯🇵 · Xiang Liu🇨🇳 · Shi-Lin Zhu🇨🇳

We study the -wave charmed baryons of flavor using the method of QCD sum rule in the framework of heavy quark effective theory (HQET). We find that the , and can be well described by the -wave charmed baryon multiplets of and , which contain two -mode orbital excitations, i.e., the has , and the and have and , respectively. Our results also suggest that the has a partner state, the of . Its mass is around GeV, and the mass difference between it and the is MeV. We also evaluate the masses of their bottom partners.

    Herbert M. Fried🇺🇸 · Peter H. Tsang🇺🇸 · Yves Gabellini🇫🇷 · Thierry Grandou🇫🇷 · Yeuan Ming Sheu🇺🇸

Using previously described functional techniques for exact, non-perturbative, gauge-invariant renormalized QCD processes, a simplified version of the amplitudes - in which forms akin to Pomerons naturally appear - provides fits to ISR Elastic pp scattering data. Extension of this work to LHC reactions is presently underway.

Lepton Flavor Non-Universality in B decays from Dynamical Yukawas

    Andreas Crivellin🇨🇭 · Javier Fuentes-Martin🇪🇸 · Admir Greljo🇨🇭 · Gino Isidori🇨🇭

The basic features of quark and lepton mass matrices can be successfully explained by natural minima of a generic potential with dynamical Yukawa fields invariant under the flavor symmetry. If this symmetry is gauged, in order to avoid potentially dangerous Goldstone bosons, and small perturbations are added to exactly fit the observed pattern of fermion masses, the spectrum of massive flavor gauge bosons can naturally explain the hints for new physics in transitions, including . In particular, the desired pattern of the Standard Model Yukawa couplings is compatible with a gauged in the quark sector, and in the lepton sector spontaneously broken around the TeV scale. In order to explain the aforementioned experimental hints, the corresponding neutral gauge bosons are required to mix, yielding to potentially observable signals in dimuon resonance searches at the LHC.

Accelerating the BSM interpretation of LHC data with machine learning

    Gianfranco Bertone🇳🇱 · Marc Peter Deisenroth🇬🇧 · Jong Soo Kim🇪🇸 · Sebastian Liem🇳🇱 · Roberto Ruiz de Austri🇪🇸 · Max Welling🇳🇱

The interpretation of Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data in the framework of Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories is hampered by the need to run computationally expensive event generators and detector simulators. Performing statistically convergent scans of high-dimensional BSM theories is consequently challenging, and in practice unfeasible for very high-dimensional BSM theories. We present here a new machine learning method that accelerates the interpretation of LHC data, by learning the relationship between BSM theory parameters and data. As a proof-of-concept, we demonstrate that this technique accurately predicts natural SUSY signal events in two signal regions at the High Luminosity LHC, up to four orders of magnitude faster than standard techniques. The new approach makes it possible to rapidly and accurately reconstruct the theory parameters of complex BSM theories, should an excess in the data be discovered at the LHC.

Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order -Jettiness Soft Function for One Massive Colored Particle Production at Hadron Colliders

    Hai Tao Li🇦🇺 · Jian Wang🇩🇪

The -jettiness subtraction has proven to be an efficient method to perform differential QCD next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculations in the last few years. One important ingredient of this method is the NNLO soft function. We calculate this soft function for one massive colored particle production at hadron colliders. We select the color octet and color triplet cases to present the final results. We also discuss its application in NLO and NNLO differential calculations.

    Tetra-Quark Interpretation of X(3872) and Z_c(3900) Revisited

    Kunihiko Terasaki🇯🇵

In relation to the newly observed bottom-strange X^{+,-}(5568) mesons, we revisit our tetra-quark interpretation of X(3872) and Z_c(3900). It is discussed that our assignment of X^{+,-}(5568) to charged components of iso-triplet bottom partners of D_{s0}^+(2317) is compatible with the revised version of our tetra-quark interpretation of X(3872) and Z_c(3900).

Naturalness and light higgsinos: A powerful reason to build the ILC

    Howard Baer🇺🇸 · Mikael Berggren🇩🇪 · Keisuke Fujii🇯🇵 · Suvi-Leena Lehtinen🇩🇪 · Jenny List🇩🇪 · Tomohiko Tanabe🇯🇵 · Jacqueline Yan🇯🇵

A core prediction of natural Supersymmetry is the existence of four light higgsinos not too far above the mass of the boson. The small mass splittings amongst the higgsinos -- typically 5-20\,GeV -- imply very little visible energy release from decays of heavier higgsinos. In particular, if other SUSY particles are quite heavy, as can be the case in SUSY with radiatively-driven naturalness, the higgsinos are extremely hard to detect at hadron colliders. The clean environment of electron-positron colliders with , however, would allow for a decisive search for the required light higgsinos. Thus, colliders should either discover or exclude natural SUSY. We present a detailed study of higgsino pair production at the proposed International Linear Collider which is under consideration for construction in Japan. A variety of precision measurements should allow for extraction of underlying parameters and provide a window onto physics at the grand unified scale.

OSEFT or how to go beyond hard thermal loops

    Cristina Manuel🇪🇸 · Joan Soto🇪🇸 · Stephan Stetina🇺🇸

We show that effective field theory techniques can be applied in the high temperature regime of plasmas to improve the accuracy of the physics of the hard scales (or scales of order ), and as a by-product, also that of the soft scales (or scales of order ). At leading order in the coupling constant the hard scales of the plasma can be viewed as on-shell classical particles. Based on this observation, and without any reference to the state of the system, we derive an effective field theory describing the quantum fluctuations around an on-shell fermion with energy , described as a set of high dimension operators over the on-shell energy . When applied to systems close to thermal equilibrium, where for most on-shell particles , we show that the on-shell effective field theory (OSEFT) properly describes the HTL photon polarization tensor of QED, and its 1/T corrections. For the soft scales the first non-vanishing power correction turns out to be a perturbative correction to the HTL result.

Large electroweak corrections to vector-boson scattering at the Large Hadron Collider

    Benedikt Biedermann🇩🇪 · Ansgar Denner🇩🇪 · Mathieu Pellen🇩🇪

For the first time full next-to-leading-order electroweak corrections to off-shell vector-boson scattering are presented. The computation features the complete matrix elements, including all non-resonant and off-shell contributions, to the electroweak process . It is fully differential, and event selections are applied to the final states such that the predictions can be directly compared to experimental measurements. The corrections are surprisingly large, reaching -16% for the fiducial cross section and up to -40% in the tails of distributions. These large corrections are due to enhanced logarithms in the bosonic virtual corrections.

The Higgs singlet extension at LHC Run 2

    Guillaume Chalons🇫🇷 · David Lopez-Val🇩🇪 · Tania Robens🇩🇪 · Tim Stefaniak🇺🇸

We discuss the current status of theoretical and experimental constraints on the real Higgs singlet extension of the Standard Model. For the second neutral (non-standard) Higgs boson the full mass range from 1 GeV to 1 TeV accessible at past and current collider experiments is considered. We present benchmark scenarios for searches for an additional Higgs state in the real Higgs singlet extension of the Standard Model in Run 2 of the LHC. We furthermore discuss electroweak corrections to the H to hh partial decay width within this model.

Lepton Sector Phases and Their Roles in Flavor and Generalized CP Symmetries

    Lisa L. Everett🇺🇸 · Alexander J. Stuart🇮🇹

We study the effects of considering nontrivial unphysical lepton sector phases on the group theoretical properties of the flavor and generalized CP symmetry elements in the case where there are three light, distinct Majorana neutrino species. We highlight the similarities and differences between the charged lepton and neutrino sectors and further elucidate the group properties of the flavor and generalized CP symmetry elements. We show how the inclusion of these leptonic phases affects the bottom-up constructions of these symmetry elements and discuss the implications for top-down model building based on discrete symmetry groups.

The Doppler effect on indirect detection of dark matter using dark matter only simulations

    Devon Powell🇺🇸 · Ranjan Laha🇺🇸 · Kenny C. Y. Ng🇮🇱 · Tom Abel🇺🇸

Indirect detection of dark matter is a major avenue for discovery. However, baryonic backgrounds are diverse enough to mimic many possible signatures of dark matter. In this work, we study the newly proposed technique of dark matter velocity spectroscopy\,\cite{speckhard2016}. The non-rotating dark matter halo and the Solar motion produce a distinct longitudinal dependence of the signal which is opposite in direction to that produced by baryons. Using collisionless dark matter only simulations of Milky Way like halos, we show that this new signature is robust and holds great promise. We develop mock observations by high energy resolution X-ray spectrometer on a sounding rocket, the Micro-X experiment, to our test case, the 3.5 keV line. We show that by using six different pointings, Micro-X can exclude a constant line energy over various longitudes at 3. The halo triaxiality is an important effect and it will typically reduce the significance of this signal. We emphasize that this new {\it smoking gun in motion} signature of dark matter is general, and is applicable to any dark matter candidate which produces a sharp photon feature in annihilation or decay.

How the Self-Interacting Dark Matter Model Explains the Diverse Galactic Rotation Curves

    Ayuki Kamada🇰🇷 · Manoj Kaplinghat🇺🇸 · Andrew B. Pace🇺🇸 · Hai-Bo Yu🇺🇸

The rotation curves of spiral galaxies exhibit a diversity that has been difficult to understand in the cold dark matter (CDM) paradigm. We show that the self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) model provides excellent fits to the rotation curves of a sample of galaxies with asymptotic velocities in the 25 to 300 km/s range that exemplify the full range of diversity. We only assume the halo concentration-mass relation predicted by the CDM model and a fixed value of the self-interaction cross section. In dark matter dominated galaxies, thermalization due to self-interactions creates large cores and reduces dark matter densities. In contrast, thermalization leads to denser and smaller cores in more luminous galaxies, and naturally explains the flat rotation curves of the highly luminous galaxies. Our results demonstrate that the impact of the baryons on the SIDM halo profile and the scatter from the assembly history of halos as encoded in the concentration-mass relation can explain the diverse rotation curves of spiral galaxies.

The effect of inclusion of resonances in relativistic mean-field model with scaled hadron masses and coupling constants

    K. A. Maslov🇷🇺 · E. E. Kolomeitsev🇸🇰 · D. N. Voskresensky🇷🇺

Knowledge of the equation of state of the baryon matter plays a decisive role in the description of neutron stars. With an increase of the baryon density the filling of Fermi seas of hyperons and isobars becomes possible. Their inclusion into standard relativistic mean-field models results in a strong softening of the equation of state and a lowering of the maximum neutron star mass below the measured values. We extend a relativistic mean-field model with scaled hadron masses and coupling constants developed in our previous works and take into account now not only hyperons but also the isobars. We analyze available empirical information to put constraints on coupling constants of s to mesonic mean fields. We show that the resulting equation of state satisfies majority of presently known experimental constraints.

Flavour decomposition of electromagnetic transition form factors of nucleon resonances

    Jorge Segovia🇩🇪 · Craig D. Roberts🇺🇸

In Poincaré-covariant continuum treatments of the three valence-quark bound-state problem, the force behind dynamical chiral symmetry breaking also generates nonpointlike, interacting diquark correlations in the nucleon and its resonances. We detail the impact of these correlations on the nucleon's elastic and nucleon-to-Roper transition electromagnetic form factors, providing flavour-separation versions that can be tested at modern facilities.

Event-by-event correlations of soft hadrons and heavy mesons in heavy ion collisions

    Caio A. G. Prado · Jacquelyn Noronha-Hostler · Roland Katz · Alexandre A. P. Suaide · Jorge Noronha · Marcelo G. Munhoz

In this paper heavy quark energy loss models are embedded in full event-by-event viscous hydrodynamic simulations to investigate the nuclear suppression factor and azimuthal anisotropy of D mesons in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV in the range 8-40 GeV. In our model calculations, the of D mesons is consistent with experimental data from the CMS experiment. We present the first calculations of heavy flavor cumulants and (and also discuss ), which is also consistent with experimental data. Event-shape engineering techniques are used to compute the event-by-event correlation between the soft hadron and the heavy meson . We predict a linear correlation between these observables on an event-by-event basis.
