The Evolution of Meson Masses in a Strong Magnetic Field

    M.A. Andreichikov🇷🇺 · B.O. Kerbikov🇷🇺 · E.V. Luschevskaya🇷🇺 · Yu.A. Simonov🇷🇺 · O.E. Solovjeva🇷🇺

Spectra of hadrons are investigated in the framework of the Hamiltonian obtained from the relativistic path integral in external homogeneous magnetic field. The spectra of all 12 spin-isospin s-wave states, generated by and mesons with different spin projections, are studied both analytically and numerically on the lattice as functions of (magnetic field) . Results are in agreement and demonstrate three types of behavior, with characteristic splittings predicted by the theory.

Gravitational Waves From SU(N) Glueball Dark Matter

    Amarjit Soni🇺🇸 · Yue Zhang🇺🇸

A hidden sector with pure non-abelian gauge symmetry is an elegant and just about the simplest model of dark matter. In this model the dark matter candidate is the lightest bound state made of the confined gauge fields, the dark glueball. In spite of its simplicity, the model has been shown to have several interesting non-standard implications in cosmology. In this work, we explore the gravitational waves from binary boson stars made of self-gravitating dark glueball fields as a natural and important consequence. We derive the dark SU() star mass and radius as functions of the only two fundamental parameters in the model, the glueball mass and the number of colors , and identify the regions that could be probed by the LIGO and future gravitational wave observatories.

Production of charmed baryon by kaon-induced reaction on a proton target

    Yin Huang · Jun He · Ju-Jun Xie · Xurong Chen · Hong-Fei Zhang

We investigate the possibility to study the charmed baryon by kaon-induced reaction on a proton target. By assuming the as a molecular state with spin-parity , an effective Lagrangian approach was adopted to calculate the cross section, the invariant mass spectrum and Dalitz plot of the production. The total cross section of the reaction is found at an order of magnitude about 10 b. By considering the sub sequential decay with contributions from the and the as background, the reaction are studied. It is found that the is produced mainly at forward angles. The signal is predicted to be significant in the invariant mass spectrum and the Dalitz plot of the reaction. The results suggest that it is promising to study the with high-energy kaon beam on a proton target in experiment.

30 years, some 700 integrals, and 1 dessert, or: Electroweak two-loop corrections to the Zbb vertex

The one-loop corrections to the weak mixing angle derived from the vertex, are known since 1985. It took another 30 years to calculate the complete electroweak two-loop corrections to . The main obstacle was the calculation of the O(700) bosonic two-loop vertex integrals with up to three mass scales, at . We did not perform the usual integral reduction and master evaluation, but chose a completely numerical approach, using two different calculational chains. One method relies on publicly available sector decomposition implementations. Further, we derived Mellin-Barnes (MB) representations, exploring the publicly available MB suite. We had to supplement the MB suite by two new packages: AMBRE~3, a Mathematica program, for the efficient treatment of non-planar integrals and MBnumerics for advanced numerics in the Minkowskian space-time. Our preliminary result for LL2016, the "dessert", for the electroweak bosonic two-loop contributions to is: , with . This contribution is about a quarter of the corresponding fermionic corrections and of about the same magnitude as several of the known higher-order QCD corrections. The is now predicited in the Standard Model with a relative error of [1].

    Bosonic-Seesaw Portal Dark Matter

    Hiroyuki Ishida🇹🇼 · Shinya Matsuzaki🇯🇵 · Yuya Yamaguchi🇯🇵

We discuss a new type of Higgs-portal dark matter (DM)-production mechanism, called bosonic-seesaw portal (BSP) scenario. The BS provides the dynamical origin of the electroweak symmetry breaking, triggered by mixing between the elementary Higgs and a composite Higgs generated by a new-color strong dynamics, hypercolor (HC). At the HC strong coupling scale, the classical-scale invariance assumed in the model is dynamically broken as well as the "chiral" symmetry present in the HC sector. In addition to the composite Higgs, HC baryons emerge to potentially be stable because of the unbroken HC baryon number symmetry. Hence the lightest HC baryon can be a DM candidate. Of interest in the present scenario is that HC pions can be as heavy as the HC baryon due to the possibly enhanced-explicit "chiral"-breaking effect triggered after the BS mechanism, so the HC baryon pair cannot annihilate into HC pions. As in the standard setup of freeze-in scenario, it is assumed that the DM was never in the thermal equilibrium, which ends up with no thermal abundance. It is then the non-thermal BSP process that crucially comes into the game below the HC scale: the HC baryon significantly couples to the standard-model Higgs via the BS mechanism, and can non-thermally be produced from the thermal plasma below the HC scale, which turns out to allow the TeV mass scale for the composite baryonic DM, much smaller than the generic bound placed in the conventional thermal freeze-out scenario, to account for the observed relic abundance. Thus the DM can closely be related to the mechanism of the electroweak symmetry breaking.

Octant of at long baseline neutrino experiments in the light of Non Unitary Leptonic mixing

    Debajyoti Dutta🇮🇳 · Pomita Ghoshal🇮🇳 · Sandeep K. Sehrawat🇮🇳

The octant of the atmospheric mixing angle is still undetermined by neutrino oscillation experiments. Long-baseline experiments like NOA, T2K and DUNE offer good prospects for determining the octant of . However, their capability to do so may be compromised by the possible presence of non-unitarity in the leptonic mixing matrix. In this paper, we study in detail the octant degeneracy with and without non-unitarity at the level of oscillation probabilities and events for these experiments. We also analyze their octant sensitivity and discovery reach and show that they are hampered in the presence of non-unitarity.

Quantum Chromodynamics, Antiferromagnets and XY Models from a Unified Point of View

    Christoph P. Hofmann🇲🇽

Antiferromagnets and quantum XY magnets in three space dimensions are described by an effective Lagrangian that exhibits the same structure as the effective Lagrangian of quantum chromodynamics with two light flavors. These systems all share a spontaneously broken internal symmetry O() O(-1). Although the respective scales differ by many orders of magnitude, the general structure of the low-temperature expansion of the partition function is the same. In the nonabelian case, logarithmic terms of the form emerge at three-loop order, while for =2 the series only involves powers of . The manifestation of the Goldstone boson interaction in the pressure, order parameter, and susceptibility is explored in presence of an external field.

The one loop contributions to c(t) electric dipole moment in the CP violating BLMSSM

In the CP violating supersymmetric extension of the standard model with local gauged baryon and lepton symmetries(BLMSSM), there are new CP violating sources which can give new contributions to the quark electric dipole moment (EDM). Considering the CP violating phases, we analyze the EDMs of the quarks c and t. We take into account the contributions from the one loop diagrams. The numerical results are analyzed with some assumptions on the relevant parameter space. The numerical results for the c and t EDMs can reach large values.

Same-sign W pair production in composite Higgs models

    Christoph Englert🇬🇧 · Peter Schichtel🇬🇧 · Michael Spannowsky🇬🇧

Non-minimal composite Higgs scenarios can contain exotic Higgs states which, if getting observed at the Large Hadron Collider, will help to constrain the underlying UV structure of the strong dynamics. Doubly charged Higgs bosons are well-motivated scalar degrees of freedom in this context. Their phenomenology in typical composite scenarios can differ from well-established Higgs triplet extensions of the SM. Related search strategies are not necessarily adapted to such a scenario as a consequence. In this paper we discuss the sensitivity reach to doubly charged Higgs bosons with decays into pairs of same-sign bosons. While production cross sections are small, we show that significant constraints on can be obtained, providing a new opportunity to constrain the potential composite structure of the TeV scale up to ~GeV.

Partial Wave Decomposition in Friedrichs Model With Self-interacting Continua

    Zhiguang Xiao🇨🇳 · Zhi-Yong Zhou🇨🇳

We consider the nonrelativistic model of coupling bare discrete states with continuum states in which the continuum states can have interactions among themselves. By partial-wave decomposition and constraint to the conserved angular momentum eigenstates, the model can be reduced to Friedrichs-like model with additional interactions between the continua. If a kind of factorizable form factor is chosen, the model can be exactly solvable, that is, the generalized discrete eigenstates including bound states, virtual states, and resonances, can all be represented using the original bare states, and so do the in-state and out-state. The exact matrix is thus obtained. We then discuss the behaviors of the dynamically generated -wave and -wave discrete states as the coupling is varying when there is only one self-interacting bare continuum state. We find that even when the potential is repulsive there could also be resonances and virtual states. In the -wave cases with attractive interaction, we find that when there is a near-threshold bound state, there will always be an accompanying virtual state and we also give a more general argument of this effect.

    Archeology and evolution of QCD

    A. De Rújula🇪🇸

These are excerpts from the closing talk at the "XIIth Conference on Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum", which took place last Summer in Thessaloniki --an excellent place to enjoy an interest in archeology. A more complete personal view of the early days of QCD and the rest of the Standard Model is given in [1]. Here I discuss a few of the points which --to my judgement-- illustrate well the QCD evolution (in time), both from a scientific and a sociological point of view.

Large-nf Contributions to the Four-Loop Splitting Functions in QCD

    J. Davies🇬🇧 · A. Vogt (Liverpool U., Dept. Math.)🇬🇧 · B. Ruijl🇳🇱 · T. Ueda🇳🇱 · J.A.M. Vermaseren (NIKHEF, Amsterdam)🇳🇱

We have computed the fourth-order nf^2 contributions to all three non-singlet quark-quark splitting functions and their four nf^3 flavour-singlet counterparts for the evolution of the parton distributions of hadrons in perturbative QCD with nf effectively massless quark flavours. The analytic form of these functions is presented in both Mellin N-space and momentum-fraction x-space; the large-x and small-x limits are discussed. Our results agree with all available predictions derived from lower-order information. The large-x limit of the quark-quark cases provides the complete nf^2 part of the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension which agrees with two recent partial computations.

Study of VBF/VBS in the LHC at 13 TeV, the EFT Approach

Raquel Gomez-Ambrosio (Turin University and INFN)🇮🇹

We review the current status of vector boson fusion and vector boson scattering studies in the frame of Run-2 of LHC. These processes are equally interesting and challenging, and new ideas have to be applied for their experimental analysis. These channels are optimal for the search of new physics, and therefore we discuss two promising techniques for this purpose: standard model effective field theory and pseudo observables. Regarding their implementation in the analyses, we also discuss briefly how these techniques should be included in the Monte Carlo generators.

Constraining the generalized uncertainty principle with the gravitational wave event GW150914

In this letter, we show that the dimensionless parameter in the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) can be constrained by the gravitational wave event GW150914, which was discovered by the LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations. Firstly, according to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle (HUP) and the data of gravitational wave event GW150914, we derive the standard energy-momentum dispersion relation and calculate the difference between the propagation speed of gravitons and the speed of light, i.e., . Next, using two proposals regarding the GUP, we also generalize our study to the quantum gravity case and obtain the modified speed of gravitons. Finally, based on the modified speed of gravitons and , the improved upper bounds on the GUP parameters are obtained. The results show that the upper limits of the GUP parameters and are and .

General Constraints on Dark Matter Decay from the Cosmic Microwave Background

    Tracy R. Slatyer🇺🇸 · Chih-Liang Wu🇺🇸

Precise measurements of the temperature and polarization anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background can be used to constrain the annihilation and decay of dark matter. In this work, we demonstrate via principal component analysis that the imprint of dark matter decay on the cosmic microwave background can be approximately parameterized by a single number for any given dark matter model. We develop a simple prescription for computing this model-dependent detectability factor, and demonstrate how this approach can be used to set model-independent bounds on a large class of decaying dark matter scenarios. We repeat our analysis for decay lifetimes shorter than the age of the universe, allowing us to set constraints on metastable species other than the dark matter decaying at early times, and decays that only liberate a tiny fraction of the dark matter mass energy. We set precise bounds and validate our principal component analysis using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo approach and Planck 2015 data.

Improved Method to extract Nucleon Helicity Distributions using Event Weighting

    Jörg Pretz🇩🇪

An improved analysis method to extract quark helicity distributions in leading order (LO) QCD from semi-inclusive double spin asymmetries in deep inelastic scattering is presented. The method relies on the fact that fragmentation functions, describing the fragmentation of a quark into a hadron, have a strong dependence on the energy fraction of the observed hadron. Hadrons with large contain more information about the struck quark. This can be used in a weighting procedure to improve the figure of merit (= inverse of variance). In numerical examples it is shown that one could gain 15-39\% depending on the quark flavor and cut on . Mathematically the problem can be described as finding an optimal solution in terms of the figure of merit for parameters determined from a system of linear equations , where the measured input vector is given as event distributions depending on a random variable , the coefficients of the matrix depend as well on , whereas the parameter vector to be determined does not.

By using this relation, the strengths of nucleon-nucleon short-range correlations of some unmeasured nuclei are predicted. Light flavor-singlet scalars and walking signals in QCD on the lattice

Based on the highly improved staggered quark action, we perform lattice simulations of QCD and confirm our previous observation of a flavor-singlet scalar meson (denoted as ) as light as the pion and various "walking signals" through low-lying spectra, with higher statistics, smaller fermion masses , and larger volumes. We measure , , , , , , , , , (both directly and through the GMOR relation), and the string tension. The data are consistent with the spontaneously broken phase of the chiral symmetry, in agreement with the previous results: ratios of the quantities to monotonically increase in the smaller region towards the chiral limit similarly to QCD, in sharp contrast to QCD where the ratios become flattened. The hyperscaling relation holds with roughly a universal value of the anomalous dimension, , with a notable exception of with as in the previous results. This is a salient feature ("walking signal") of , unlike either which has no hyperscaling relation at all, or QCD which exhibits universal hyperscaling. We further confirm the previous observation of the light with mass comparable to the pion in the studied region. In a chiral limit extrapolation of the mass using the dilaton chiral perturbation theory and also using the simple linear fit, we find the value consistent with the 125 GeV Higgs boson within errors. Our results suggest that the theory could be a good candidate for walking technicolor model, having anomalous dimension and a light flavor-singlet scalar meson as a technidilaton, which can be identified with the 125 GeV composite Higgs in one-family model.

Probing the Source of Proton Mass by"Unbreaking" Scale-Chiral Symmetry

    Mannque Rho🇫🇷

I describe a possible scenario for the origin of proton mass in terms of Cheshire Cat, half-skyrmions, topology change and interplay between hidden chiral-scale symmetry and induced local symmetry. This differs from the standard constituent-quark scenario. As the baryonic matter density is increased toward the vector manifestation (VM) fixed-point at which the mass is to vanish, the effective in-medium mass ratio is to tend to zero proportionally to where is the in-medium hidden gauge coupling constant. I develop the thesis that the intricacy involved in the mass generation could be decoded from experiments at RIB accelerators and massive compact stars.

Towards Nonperturbation Theory of Emergent Gravity

    Supriya Kar🇮🇳

We investigate an emergent gravity in dimensions underlying a geometric torsion in order formulation. We show that an emergent pair-symmetric th order curvature tensor underlying a NS field theory governs a torsion free geometry and is identified as the Riemann type tensor. Interestingly a pair anti-symmetric th order tensor is shown to incorporate a dynamical correction underlying a gauge potential and is identified with a non-perturbative correction. The non-perturbative term in the emergent action is shown to be described by a gauge invariant in a second order theory underlying an onshell in a first order. A complete emergent theory is elegantly described with an axion, and hence a quintessence, coupling to the Riemann type geometries. The curvatures are appropriately worked out to obtain a emergent theory. Further investigation reveals that a pair of -brane are created across an event horizon. We obtain an emergent theory which in a decoupling limit identifies with the bosonic sector of SUGRA in .

Equilibration of a strongly interacting plasma: holographic analysis of local and nonlocal probes

    Loredana Bellantuono🇮🇹

The relaxation of a strongly coupled plasma towards the hydrodynamic regime is studied by analyzing the evolution of local and nonlocal observables in the holographic approach. The system is driven in an initial anisotropic and far-from equilibrium state through an impulsive time-dependent deformation (quench) of the boundary spacetime geometry. Effective temperature and entropy density are related to the position and area of a black hole horizon, which has formed as a consequence of the distortion. The behavior of stress-energy tensor, equal-time correlation functions and Wilson loops of different shapes is examined, and a hierarchy among their thermalization times emerges: probes involving shorter length scales thermalize faster.
