Collider Signatures of Flavorful Higgs Bosons

    Wolfgang Altmannshofer🇺🇸 · Joshua Eby🇺🇸 · Stefania Gori🇺🇸 · Matteo Lotito🇺🇸 · Mario Martone🇺🇸 · Douglas Tuckler🇺🇸

Motivated by our limited knowledge of the Higgs couplings to first two generation fermions, we analyze the collider phenomenology of a class of two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs) with a non-standard Yukawa sector. One Higgs doublet is mainly responsible for the masses of the weak gauge bosons and the third generation fermions, while the second Higgs doublet provides mass for the lighter fermion generations. The characteristic collider signatures of this setup differ significantly from well-studied 2HDMs with natural flavor conservation, flavor alignment, or minimal flavor violation. New production mechanisms for the heavy scalar, pseudoscalar, and charged Higgs involving second generation quarks can become dominant. The most interesting decay modes include H/A -> cc, tc, {\mu}{\mu}, {\tau}{\mu} and H+ -> cb, cs, {\mu}{\nu}. Searches for low mass di-muon resonances are currently among the best probes of the heavy Higgs bosons in this setup.

Anomalous mass dimension of multi-flavor QCD

    A. Doff🇧🇷 · A. A. Natale🇧🇷

Models of strongly interacting theories with a large mass anomalous dimension () provide an interesting possibility for the dynamical origin of the electroweak symmetry breaking. A laboratory for these models is QCD with many flavors, which may present a non-trivial fixed point associated to a conformal region. Studies based on conformal field theories and on Schwinger-Dyson equations have suggested the existence of bounds on the mass anomalous dimension at the fixed points of these models. In this note we discuss values of multi-flavor QCD exhibiting a non-trivial fixed point and affected by relevant four-fermion interactions.

Baryon asymmetry from primordial black holes

    Yuta Hamada🇯🇵 · Satoshi Iso🇯🇵

We propose a new scenario of the baryogenesis from primordial black holes (PBH). Assuming presence of microscopic baryon (or lepton) number violation and a CP violating operator such as , where is a scalar function of the Riemann tensor, time evolution of an evaporating black hole generates baryonic (leptonic) chemical potential at the horizon; consequently PBH enumerates asymmetric Hawking radiation between baryons (leptons) and anti-baryons (leptons). Though the operator is higher dimensional and largely suppressed by a high mass scale , we show that sufficient amount of asymmetry can be generated for a wide range of parameters of the PBH mass , its abundance , and the scale .

    Collider Phenomenology of

    Kai Wang🇨🇳 · Tao Xu🇨🇳 · Liangliang Zhang (Zhejiang University, China)🇨🇳

Whether in nature exists Majorana neutrino is one of the most fundamental questions in physics. It is directly related to the violation of accidental -lepton number symmetry(LNV). Enormous efforts had been put into such test and among them, one conventional experiment is the neutrinoless double-beta decay (). On the other hand, there have been proposals of future electron-positron colliders such as International Linear Collider (ILC) for precision measurements of Higgs boson or new discovered beyond SM particles and it can potentially be converted into an electron-electron collider. Such collider enables a new probe of Majorana neutrino via the inverse process() as an alternative and complementary test to the conventional neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments. In this paper, we illustrate the searching strategies of at future electron colliders, and find that the channels of pure hadronic, semi-leptonic with muon and pure leptonic with muons have the most discovery potential.

Three Lectures of Flavor and CP violation within and Beyond the Standard Model

    Stefania Gori🇺🇸

These notes are based on the lectures I gave at the 2015 European School of High-Energy Physics (ESHEP2015). I discuss 1) flavor physics within the Standard Model, 2) effective field theories and Minimal Flavor Violation, 3) flavor physics in theories beyond the Standard Model and "high energy" flavor transitions of the top quark and of the Higgs boson. As a bi-product, I present the most updated constraints from the measurements of B_s -> mu^+mu^-, as well as I discuss the most recent development in the LHC searches for top flavor changing couplings.

-factorization procedure for the description of the forward hadron-hadron production at

    M. Modarres · M.R. Masouminia · R. Aminzadeh Nik

Quit recently, two sets of new experimental data from the and the collaborations have been published, concerning the production of the vector boson in hadron-hadron collisions with the center-of-mass energy . On the other hand, in our recent work, we have conducted a set of calculations for the production of the electroweak gauge vector bosons, utilizing the unintegrated parton distribution functions () in the frameworks of -- () or -- () and the -factorization formalism, concluding that the results of the scheme are arguably better in describing the existing experimental data, coming from , , and collaborations. It will be shown that our results are in good agreement with the new measurements of the and the collaborations.

Implications of lepton nonuniversality in the beauty sector

    A. Giri🇮🇳 · R. Mohanta🇮🇳 · S. Sahoo🇮🇳

The phenomenon of CP violation in the standard model (SM) framework and the decay dynamics have been established from the data obtained from the B factories and so far we have not seen anything new. Nevertheless, there have been instances of deviations in many measured observables in the flavor sector, as far as the data and predictions are concerned. Here we will mention some deviations obtained in measurements related to lepton universality, as seen from the data, and try to understand their implications. To accommodate the observed data we will consider a leptoquark model, which seems to be one interesting model beyond the SM.

LHC Phenomenology of Composite 2-Higgs Doublet Models

    Stefania De Curtis🇮🇹 · Stefano Moretti🇬🇧 · Kei Yagyu🇬🇧 · Emine Yildirim🇬🇧

We investigate the phenomenology of Composite 2-Higgs Doublet Models (C2HDMs) of various Yukawa types based on the global symmetry breaking . The kinetic term and the Yukawa Lagrangian are constructed in terms of the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone Boson (pNGB) matrix and a 6-plet of fermions under . The scalar potential is assumed to be the same as that of the Elementary 2-Higgs Doublet Model (E2HDM) with a softly-broken discrete symmetry. We then discuss the phenomenological differences between the E2HDM and C2HDM by focusing on the deviations from Standard Model (SM) couplings of the discovered Higgs state () as well as on the production cross sections and Branching Ratios (BRs) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of extra Higgs bosons. We find that, even if the same deviation in the () coupling is assumed in both scenarios, there appear significant differences between E2HDM and C2HDM from the structure of the Yukawa couplings, so that production and decay features of extra Higgs bosons can be used to distinguish between the two scenarios.

Fits of Weak Annihilation and Hard Spectator Scattering Corrections in Decays

    Qin Chang🇨🇳 · Xiao-Nan Li🇨🇳 · Jun-Feng Sun🇨🇳 · Yue-Ling Yang🇨🇳

In this paper, the contributions of weak annihilation and hard spectator scattering in , , , and decays are investigated within the framework of QCD factorization. Using the experimental data available, we perform analyses of end-point parameters in four cases based on the topology-dependent and polarization-dependent parameterization schemes. The fitted results indicate that: (i) In the topology-dependent scheme, the relation gotten through and decays is favored by the penguin-dominated decays at 95\% C. L., (ii) The large hard spectator scattering corrections and/or the simplification are challenged by , even though they are allowed by and decays and helpful for resolving " puzzle", (iii) In the polarization-dependent scheme, the relation is always required. Moreover, we have updated the theoretical results for decays with the best-fit values of end-point parameters. A few observables, such as the ones of pure annihilation decay, are also identified for probing the annihilation corrections.

LHC production of forward-center and forward-forward di-jets in the -factorization parton distribution frameworks

    M. Modarres · M.R. Masouminia · R. Aminzadeh-Nik · H.Hosseinkhani

The present work is devoted to study the high-energy events, such as the di-jet productions from proton-proton inelastic collisions at the in the forward-center and the forward-forward configurations, using the parton distribution functions () in the -factorization framework. The of et. al. () and et.al. () are generated in the leading order () and next-to-leading order (), using the et al. () libraries. While working in the forward-center and the forward-forward rapidity sectors, one can probe the parton densities at very low longitudinal momentum fractions (). Therefore, such a computation can provide a valuable test-field for these . We find very good agreement with the corresponding di-jet production data available from experiments. On the other hand, as we have also stated in our previous works, (i.e. the protons longitudinal and transverse structure function as well as hadron-hadron production), the present calculations based on the prescriptions show a better agreement with the corresponding experimental data. This conclusion is achieved, due to the particular visualization of the angular ordering constraint (), despite the fact that the and the formalisms both employ better theoretical descriptions of the -- -- () evolution equation, and hence are expected to produce better results. The form of the in the prescription automatically includes the re-summation of the higher-order type contributions, i.e. the --- () logarithms, in the - evolution equation.

Relativistic phase space distributions are very interesting objects as they allow one to gather the information extracted from various types of experiments into a single coherent picture. Focusing on the four-dimensional transverse phase space, we identified all the possible angular correlations providing at the same time a clear physical interpretation of all the leading-twist generalized and transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions. We also developed a convenient representation of this four-dimensional space.

Exploring anomalous couplings in -proton collisions at the LHC

    S. Taheri Monfared🇮🇷 · Sh. Fayazbakhsh🇮🇷 · M. Mohammadi Najafabadi🇮🇷

The coupling, which is highly sensitive to the new physics beyond the standard model, is studied through the process at the LHC. To this purpose, an effective Lagrangian, in a model independent approach, with dimension six operators is considered in this paper. New interaction terms regarding beyond the standard model physics include the Higgs boson anomalous vertices in both CP-even and CP-odd structures. A detailed numerical analysis is performed to scrutinize the accurate constraints on the effective couplings and to discuss how far the corresponding bounds can be improved. This is achieved by testing all the efficient Higgs decay channels and increasing the integrated luminosity at three different forward detector acceptance regions. The numerical results propose that the Higgs photoproduction at the LHC, as a complementary channel, has a great potential of exploring the couplings.

Quark Propagator with electroweak interactions in the Dyson-Schwinger approach

    Walid Ahmed Mian🇦🇹 · Axel Maas🇦🇹

Motivated by the non-negligible dynamical backcoupling of the electroweak interactions with the strong interaction during neutron star mergers, we study the effects of the explicit breaking of C, P and flavor symmetry on the strong sector. The quark propagator is the simplest object which encodes the consequences of these breakings. To asses the impact, we study the influence of especially parity violation on the propagator for various masses. For this purpose the functional methods in form of Dyson-Schwinger-Equations are employed. We find that explicit isospin breaking leads to a qualitative change of behavior even for a slight explicit breaking, which is in contrast to the expectations from perturbation theory. Our results thus suggest that non-perturbative backcoupling effects could be larger than expected.

Aspects of the low-energy constants in the chiral Lagrangian for charmed mesons

    Meng-Lin Du🇩🇪 · Feng-Kun Guo🇨🇳 · Ulf-G. Meißner🇩🇪 · De-Liang Yao🇩🇪

We investigate the numerical values of the low-energy constants in the chiral effective Lagrangian for the interactions between the charmed mesons and the lightest pseudoscalar mesons, the Goldstone bosons of the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry for QCD. This problem is tackled from two sides: estimates using the resonance exchange model, and positivity constraints from the general properties of the -matrix including analyticity, crossing symmetry and unitarity. These estimates and constraints are compared with the values determined from fits to lattice data of the scattering lengths. Tensions are found, and possible reasons are discussed. We conclude that more data from lattice calculations and experiments are necessary to fix these constants better. As a by-product, we also estimate the coupling constant , with the light tensor meson, via the QCD sum rule approach.

Exploring the Top-Higgs FCNC Couplings at Polarized Linear Colliders with Top Spin Observables

    Blaženka Melić🇭🇷 · Monalisa Patra🇭🇷

We study the nature of the flavor changing neutral couplings of the top quark with the Higgs boson and the up/charm quark in the production at linear colliders. There are previous bounds on such tqH couplings at both, linear and hadronic colliders, with the assumption that it couples equally to the left and the right handed fermions. In this paper we examine the chirality of the tqH coupling and construct different observables which will be sensitive to it. The kinematics of the emitted q from t qH in production is discussed and it was found that the polar angle distribution of q is sensitive to the chiral nature of tqH couplings. The observables in the context of top-antitop spin correlations, which are sensitive to new physics in the top decay are considered using different spin-quantization bases. It was found that in particular the off-diagonal basis can be useful to distinguish among the chiral tqH couplings. The sensitivity of the unpolarized ILC in probing the couplings at the 3 level at = 500 GeV and L = 500 fb is also studied, resulting in predicted BR(t qH) < 1.19 . This limit is further improved to BR(t qH) < 8.84 with the inclusion of initial beam polarization of left handed electrons and right handed positrons.

Color-kinematics duality and Sudakov form factor at five loops for N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

    Gang Yang🇨🇳

Using color-kinematics duality, we construct for the first time the full integrand of the five-loop Sudakov form factor in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, including non-planar contributions. This result also provides a first manifestation of the color-kinematics duality at five loops. The integrand is explicitly ultraviolet finite when D<26/5, coincident with the known finiteness bound for amplitudes. If the double-copy method could be applied to the form factor, this would indicate an interesting ultraviolet finiteness bound for N=8 supergravity at five loops. The result is also expected to provide an essential input for computing the five-loop non-planar cusp anomalous dimension.

Global hyperon polarization at local thermodynamic equilibrium with vorticity, magnetic field and feed-down

    F. Becattini (U. Florence)🇮🇹 · I. Karpenko (INFN Florence)🇮🇹 · M. Lisa (Ohio State U.)🇺🇸 · I. Upsal (Ohio State U.)🇺🇸 · S. Voloshin (Wayne State U.)🇺🇸

The system created in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions is known to behave as an almost ideal liquid. In non-central collisions, due to the large orbital momentum, such a system might be the fluid with the highest vorticity ever created under laboratory conditions. Particles emerging from such a highly vorticous fluid are expected to be globally polarized with their spins on average pointing along the system angular momentum. Vorticity-induced polarization is the same for particles and antiparticles, but the intense magnetic field generated in these collisions may lead to the splitting in polarization. In this paper we outline the thermal approach to the calculation of the global polarization phenomenon for particles with spin and we discuss the details of the experimental study of this phenomenon, estimating the effect of feed-down. A general formula is derived for the polarization transfer in two-body decays and, particularly, for strong and electromagnetic decays. We find that accounting for such effects is crucial when extracting vorticity and magnetic field from the experimental data.

Diffuse flux of galactic neutrinos and gamma rays

    J.M. Carceller🇪🇸 · M. Masip🇪🇸

We calculate the fluxes of neutrinos and gamma rays from interactions of cosmic rays with interstellar matter in our galaxy. We use EPOS-LHC, SIBYLL and GHEISHA to obtain the yield of these particles in proton, helium and iron collisions at kinetic energies between 1 and 10^8 GeV, and we correlate the cosmic ray density with the mean magnetic field strength in the disk and the halo of our galaxy. We find that at E>1 PeV the fluxes depend very strongly on the cosmic-ray composition, whereas at 1-5 GeV the main source of uncertainty is the cosmic-ray spectrum out of the heliosphere. We show that the diffuse flux of galactic neutrinos becomes larger than the conventional atmospheric one at E>1 PeV, but that at all IceCube energies it is 4 times smaller than the atmospheric flux from forward-charm decays.

On infrared problems of effective Lagrangians of massive spin 2 fields coupled to gauge fields

    Fabrizio Canfora🇨🇱 · Alex Giacomini🇨🇱 · Alfonso R. Zerwekh🇨🇱

In this paper we analyze the interactions of a massive spin-2 particles charged under both Abelian and non-Abelian group using the Porrati-Rahman Lagrangian. This theory is valid up to an intrinsic cutoff scale. Phenomenologically a theory valid up to a cutoff scale is sensible as all known higher spin particles are non-fundamental and it is shown that indeed this action can be used to estimate some relevant cross section. Such action necessarily includes Stuckelberg field and therefore it is necessary to fix the corresponding gauge symmetry. We show that this theory, when the Stuckelberg symmetry is gauge-fixed, possesses a non-trivial infrared problem. A gauge fixing ambiguity arises which is akin to the Gribov problem in QCD in the Abelian case as well. In some cases (such as when the space-time is the four-dimensional torus) the vacuum copies can be found analytically. A similar phenomenon also appears in the case of Proca fields. A very interesting feature of these copies is that they arise only for "large enough" gauge potentials. This opens the possibility to avoid the appearance of such gauge fixing ambiguities by using a Gribov-Zwanziger like approach.

Cosmological solutions with gravitational particle production and non-zero curvature

    Andronikos Paliathanasis🇨🇱 · John D. Barrow🇬🇧 · Supriya Pan🇮🇳

In a homogeneous and isotropic universe with non-zero spatial curvature we consider the effects of gravitational particle production in the dynamics of the universe. We show that the dynamics of the universe in such a background is characterized by a single nonlinear differential equation which is significantly dependent on the rate of particle creation and whose solutions can be dominated by the curvature effects at early times. For different particle creation rates we apply the singularity test in order to find the analytic solutions of the background dynamics. We describe the behavior of the cosmological solutions for both open and closed universes. We also show how the effects of curvature can be produced by the presence of a second perfect fluid with an appropriate equation of state. By combining that results with the analysis of the critical points we find that our consideration can be related with the pre-inflationary era. Specifically we find that for negative spatial curvature small changes of the Milne spacetime leads to a de Sitter universe.

We study interplay between confinement/deconfinement and chiral properties. We derive some analytical relations of the Dirac modes with the confinement quantities, such as the Polyakov loop, its susceptibility and the string tension. For the confinement quantities, the low-lying Dirac eigenmodes are found to give negligible contribution, while they are essential for chiral symmetry breaking. This indicates no direct, one-to-one correspondence between confinement/deconfinement and chiral properties in QCD. We also investigate the Polyakov loop in terms of the eigenmodes of the Wilson, the clover and the domain-wall fermion kernels, respectively.
