Hard Corrections in Precision QCD for LHC and FCC Physics: A New Approach

    B.F.L. Ward (1) ((1) Baylor University, Waco, TX, USA)🇺🇸

With an eye toward the usual unphysical divergence of hard fixed-order corrections in predictions for the processes probed in high energy colliding hadron beam devices as one approaches the soft limit, we present a new approach to the realization of such corrections, with some emphasis on the LHC and the future FCC devices. We show that the respective divergence is removed in our approach. This means that we would render the standard results to be closer to the observed exclusive distributions. While we stress that the approach has general applicability, we use the single Z and virtual gamma production and decay to lepton pairs as our prototypical example. Accordingly, our work opens another part of the way to rigorous baselines for the determination of the theoretical precision tags for LHC physics, with an attendant generalization to the future FCC.

Skyrme model study of proton and neutron properties in a strong magnetic field

    Bing-Ran He🇨🇳

The proton and neutron properties in a uniform magnetic field are investigated. The Gell-Mann-Nishijima formula is shown to be satisfied for baryon states. It is found that with increasing magnetic field strength, the proton mass first decreases and then increases, while the neutron mass always increases. The ratio between magnetic moment of proton and neutron increases with the increase of the magnetic field strength. With increasing magnetic field strength, the size of proton first increases and then decreases, while the size of neutron always decreases. The present analyse implies that in the core part of the magnetar, the equation of state depend on the magnetic field, which modifies the mass limit of the magnetar.

Testing the low scale seesaw and leptogenesis

    Marco Drewes🇩🇪 · Bjorn Garbrecht🇩🇪 · Dario Gueter🇩🇪 · Juraj Klaric🇩🇪

Heavy neutrinos with masses below the electroweak scale can simultaneously generate the light neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism and the baryon asymmetry of the universe via leptogenesis. The requirement to explain these phenomena imposes constraints on the mass spectrum of the heavy neutrinos, their flavour mixing pattern and their properties. We first combine bounds from different experiments in the past to map the viable parameter regions in which the minimal low scale seesaw model can explain the observed neutrino oscillations, while being consistent with the negative results of past searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. We then study which additional predictions for the properties of the heavy neutrinos can be made based on the requirement to explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe. Finally, we comment on the perspectives to find traces of heavy neutrinos in future experimental searches at the LHC, NA62, BELLE II, T2K, SHiP or a future high energy collider, such as ILC, CEPC or FCC-ee. If any heavy neutral leptons are discovered in the future, our results can be used to assess whether these particles are indeed the common origin of the light neutrino masses and the baryon asymmetry of the universe. If the magnitude of their couplings to all Standard Model flavours can be measured individually, and if the Dirac phase in the lepton mixing matrix is determined in neutrino oscillation experiments, then all model parameters can in principle be determined from this data. This makes the low scale seesaw a fully testable model of neutrino masses and baryogenesis.

Light Weakly Coupled Axial Forces: Models, Constraints, and Projections

    Yonatan Kahn🇺🇸 · Gordan Krnjaic🇺🇸 · Siddharth Mishra-Sharma🇺🇸 · Tim M.P. Tait🇺🇸

We investigate the landscape of constraints on MeV-GeV scale, hidden U(1) forces with nonzero axial-vector couplings to Standard Model fermions. While the purely vector-coupled dark photon, which may arise from kinetic mixing, is a well-motivated scenario, several MeV-scale anomalies motivate a theory with axial couplings which can be UV-completed consistent with Standard Model gauge invariance. Moreover, existing constraints on dark photons depend on products of various combinations of axial and vector couplings, making it difficult to isolate the effects of axial couplings for particular flavors of SM fermions. We present a representative renormalizable, UV-complete model of a dark photon with adjustable axial and vector couplings, discuss its general features, and show how some UV constraints may be relaxed in a model with nonrenormalizable Yukawa couplings at the expense of fine-tuning. We survey the existing parameter space and the projected reach of planned experiments, briefly commenting on the relevance of the allowed parameter space to low-energy anomalies in pi^0 and 8-Be* decay.

Simultaneous Explanation of the and Puzzles: a Model Analysis

    Bhubanjyoti Bhattacharya🇨🇦 · Alakabha Datta🇺🇸 · Jean-Pascal Guévin🇨🇦 · David London🇨🇦 · Ryoutaro Watanabe🇨🇦

and are two -decay measurements that presently exhibit discrepancies with the SM. Recently, using an effective field theory approach, it was demonstrated that a new-physics model can simultaneously explain both the and puzzles. There are two UV completions that can give rise to the effective Lagrangian: (i) : a vector boson that transforms as an triplet, as in the SM, (ii) : an -singlet vector leptoquark. In this paper, we examine these models individually. A key point is that contributes to - mixing and , while does not. We show that, when constraints from these processes are taken into account, the model is just barely viable. It predicts . This is measurable at Belle II and LHCb, and therefore constitutes a smoking-gun signal of . For , there are several observables that may point to this model. Perhaps the most interesting is the lepton-flavor-violating decay , which has previously been overlooked in the literature. predicts . Thus, if a large value of is observed -- and this should be measurable at Belle II -- the model would be indicated.

Toward (Finally!) Ruling Out Z and Higgs Mediated Dark Matter Models

    Miguel Escudero🇪🇸 · Asher Berlin🇺🇸 · Dan Hooper🇺🇸 · Meng-Xiang Lin🇺🇸

In recent years, direct detection, indirect detection, and collider experiments have placed increasingly stringent constraints on particle dark matter, exploring much of the parameter space associated with the WIMP paradigm. In this paper, we focus on the subset of WIMP models in which the dark matter annihilates in the early universe through couplings to either the Standard Model or the Standard Model Higgs boson. Considering fermionic, scalar, and vector dark matter candidates within a model-independent context, we find that the overwhelming majority of these dark matter candidates are already ruled out by existing experiments. In the case of mediated dark matter, the only scenarios that are not currently excluded are those in which the dark matter is a fermion with an axial coupling and with a mass either within a few GeV of the resonance () or greater than 200 GeV, or with a vector coupling and with TeV. Several Higgs mediated scenarios are currently viable if the mass of the dark matter is near the Higgs pole (). Otherwise, the only scenarios that are not excluded are those in which the dark matter is a scalar (vector) heavier than 400 GeV (1160 GeV) with a Higgs portal coupling, or a fermion with a pseudoscalar (CP violating) coupling to the Standard Model Higgs boson. With the exception of dark matter with a purely pseudoscalar coupling to the Higgs, it is anticipated that planned direct detection experiments will probe nearly the entire range of models considered in this study.

    - conversion in upcoming LFV experiments

    Tanja Geib🇩🇪 · Alexander Merle🇩🇪 · Kai Zuber🇩🇪

We present an illustrative discussion of the physics potential of - conversion. We point out that this process, although much less frequently studied than the related but much more popular processes of - conversion and neutrinoless double beta decay, in fact is a promising alternative possibility to detect both lepton flavour and number violation. However, for this goal to be reached, a combined effort of experiments and theory, both in nuclear and particle physics, is necessary to advance. The aim of this paper is to be an "appetiser" to trigger such an initiative.

Efficient Evaluation of Massive Mellin--Barnes Integrals

    Janusz Gluza🇵🇱 · Tomasz Jelinski🇵🇱 · David A. Kosower🇫🇷

We show how to evaluate one-dimensional Minkowski-region Mellin-Barnes representations arising from massive loop integrals, by modifying the contours of integration. We implement an exact solution to the differential equation determining the contours of stationary phase. We also present several simple approximations to these contours. Our approach points the way to more efficient computations of massless and massive Mellin-Barnes integrals in both Euclidean and Minkowski regions.

Rotated \,--\, Symmetry for One Generic Neutrino Mixing Angle: An analytical Study

    E. I. Lashin (Ain Shams U., Cairo and Zewail City Sci. Technol., Giza)🇪🇬 · N. Chamoun (HIAST and Bonn U.)🇸🇾 · C. Hamzaoui (Quebec U., Montreal)🇨🇦 · S. Nasri (United Arab Emirates U.)🇦🇪

We find a realization of the -symmetry in the neutrino mass matrix which expresses a rotation of the symmetry and is able to impose a generic smallest mixing angle, in contrast to a zero-value predicted by the usual non-rotated form of the symmetry. We extend this symmetry for the lepton sector within type-I seesaw scenario, and show it can accommodate the mixing angles, the mass hierarchies and the lepton asymmetry in the universe. We then study the effects of perturbing the specific form of the neutrino mass matrix imposed by the symmetry and compute the resulting mixing and mass spectrum. We trace back this "low-scale" perturbation to a "high-scale" perturbation, and find realizations of this latter one arising from exact symmetries with an enriched matter content.

Three-loop vacuum integrals with arbitrary masses

    Ayres Freitas🇺🇸

Three-loop vacuum integrals are an important building block for the calculation of a wide range of three-loop corrections. Until now, only results for integrals with one and two independent mass scales are known, but in the electroweak Standard Model and many extensions thereof, one often encounters more mass scales of comparable magnitude. For this reason, a numerical approach for the evaluation of three-loop vacuum integrals with arbitrary mass pattern is proposed here. Concretely, one can identify a basic set of three master integral topologies. With the help of dispersion relations, each of these can be transformed into one-dimensional or, for the most complicated case, two-dimensional integrals in terms of elementary functions, which are suitable for efficient numerical integration.

Dissociation of large transverse-momentum prompt J/psi produced in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC

    Shi-Tao Ji🇨🇳 · Xiao-Ming Xu🇨🇳 · H. J. Weber🇺🇸

A collision of a light meson and a charmonium produces quarks and antiquarks first, then the charm quark fragments into a charmed hadron, and finally three or more mesons are produced. This is the mechanism that we consider and propose to understand the prompt-J/psi nuclear modification factor in the range of J/psi transverse momentum from 10 GeV/c to 18 GeV/c, as measured by the CMS Collaboration and the ATLAS Collaboration. Unpolarized cross sections are derived and calculated for the reactions pion+charmonium ->H_c+X with H_c being a charmed meson. Numerical cross sections are parametrized and used to calculate the dissociation rate of charmonium in the interaction with pions in hadronic matter. The momentum dependence of the rate obtained is so as to lead to a decreasing charmonium nuclear modification factor with increasing transverse momentum.

Next-to-Next-Leading Order analysis of electroweak vacuum stability and rising inflection point

    Giuseppe Iacobellis🇮🇹

We show an analysis on the gauge-independent observables associated with two stationary configurations of the Standard Model (SM) potential (extrapolated to high energy at Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order (NNLO)): i) the value of the top mass ensuring stability of the SM electroweak vacuum and ii) the value of the Higgs potential at a rising inflection point. We examine in detail and reappraise the experimental and theoretical uncertainties which plague their determination, keeping alive the possibility for the SM of being stable and studying applications of such configuration to models of primordial inflation.

Analysis of Dalitz decays with intrinsic parity violating interactions in resonance chiral perturbation theory

    Daiji Kimura🇯🇵 · Takuya Morozumi🇯🇵 · Hiroyuki Umeeda🇯🇵

Observables of light hadron decays are analyzed in a model of chiral Lagrangian which includes resonance fields of vector mesons. In particular, transition form factors are investigated for Dalitz decays of and . Moreover, the differential decay width of and the partial widths of and are also calculated. In this study, we consider a model which contains octet and singlet fields as representation of . As an extension of chiral perturbation theory, we include 1-loop ordered interaction terms. For both pseudoscalar and vector meson, we evaluate mixing matrices in which isospin/ breaking is taken into account. Furthermore, intrinsic parity violating interactions are considered with singlet fields. For parameter estimation, we carry out fittings in which a spectral function of decays, vector meson masses, decay widths of and transition form factor of are utilized as input data. Using the estimated parameter region in the model, we give predictions for decay widths and transition form factors of intrinsic parity violating decays. As further model predictions, we calculate the transition form factors of and in the vicinity of resonance regions, taking account of the contribution for intermediate and .

    Mirror QCD and Cosmological Constant

    Roman Pasechnik🇸🇪 · George Prokhorov🇷🇺 · Oleg Teryaev🇷🇺

An analog of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) sector known as mirror QCD (mQCD) can affect the cosmological evolution due to a non-trivial contribution to the Cosmological Constant analogous to that induced by the ground state in non-perturbative QCD. In this work, we explore a plausible hypothesis for trace anomalies cancellation between the usual QCD and mQCD. Such an anomaly cancellation between the two gauge theories, if exists in Nature, would lead to a suppression or even elimination of their contributions to the Cosmological Constant. The trace anomaly compensation condition and the form of the non-perturbative mQCD coupling constant in the infrared limit have been proposed by analysing a partial non-perturbative solution of the Einstein--Yang-Mills equations of motion.

Surviving scenario of stop decays for ATLAS search

Recently ATLAS reported a excess in the stop search with channel. We try to interpret the signal by a light stop pair production in the MSSM. We find: (1) simple models where stop decays into a higgsino or a bino are not favored. (2) an extension of them can explain the data at level without conflicting with the other search channels. A surviving possibility includes a light stop and a light higgsino, which is expected in a natural SUSY scenario.

Renormalisation Group Corrections to the Littlest Seesaw Model and Maximal Atmospheric Mixing

    Stephen F. King🇬🇧 · Jue Zhang🇨🇳 · Shun Zhou🇨🇳

The Littlest Seesaw (LS) model involves two right-handed neutrinos and a very constrained Dirac neutrino mass matrix, involving one texture zero and two independent Dirac masses, leading to a highly predictive scheme in which all neutrino masses and the entire PMNS matrix is successfully predicted in terms of just two real parameters. We calculate the renormalisation group (RG) corrections to the LS predictions, with and without supersymmetry, including also the threshold effects induced by the decoupling of heavy Majorana neutrinos both analytically and numerically. We find that the predictions for neutrino mixing angles and mass ratios are rather stable under RG corrections. For example we find that the LS model with RG corrections predicts close to maximal atmospheric mixing, , in most considered cases, in tension with the latest NOvA results. The techniques used here apply to other seesaw models with a strong normal mass hierarchy.

Probing gluon saturation with next-to-leading order photon production at central rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions

    Sanjin Benic🇯🇵 · Kenji Fukushima🇯🇵 · Oscar Garcia-Montero🇩🇪 · Raju Venugopalan🇺🇸

We compute the cross section for photons emitted from sea quarks in proton-nucleus collisions at collider energies. The computation is performed within the dilute-dense kinematics of the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory. Albeit the result obtained is formally at next-to-leading order in the CGC power counting, it provides the dominant contribution for central rapidities. We observe that the inclusive photon cross section is proportional to all-twist Wilson line correlators in the nucleus. These correlators also appear in quark-pair production; unlike the latter, photon production is insensitive to hadronization uncertainties and therefore more sensitive to multi-parton correlations in the gluon saturation regime of QCD. We demonstrate that and collinear factorized expressions for inclusive photon production are obtained as leading twist approximations to our result. In particular, the collinearly factorized expression is directly sensitive to the nuclear gluon distribution at small . Other results of interest include the realization of the Low-Burnett-Kroll soft photon theorem in the CGC framework and a comparative study of how the photon amplitude is obtained in Lorenz and light-cone gauges.

Anomalous transport from holography: Part II

    Yanyan Bu🇮🇱 · Michael Lublinsky🇮🇱 · Amir Sharon🇮🇱

This is a second study of chiral anomaly induced transport within a holographic model consisting of anomalous Maxwell theory in Schwarzschild- spacetime. In the first part, chiral magnetic/separation effects (CME/CSE) are considered in presence of a static spatially-inhomogeneous external magnetic field. Gradient corrections to CME/CSE are analytically evaluated up to third order in the derivative expansion. Some of the third order gradient corrections lead to an anomaly-induced negative -correction to the diffusion constant. We also find non-linear in modifications to the chiral magnetic wave (CMW). In the second part, we focus on the experimentally interesting case of the axial chemical potential being induced dynamically by a constant magnetic and time-dependent electric fields. Constitutive relations for the vector/axial currents are computed employing two different approximations: (a) derivative expansion (up to third order) but fully nonlinear in the external fields, and (b) weak electric field limit but resuming all orders in the derivative expansion. A non-vanishing non-linear axial current (CSE) is found in the first case. Dependence on magnetic field and frequency of linear transport coefficient functions (TCFs) is explored in the second.

Probing the QCD phase diagram with dileptons - a study using coarse-grained transport dynamics

    Stephan Endres🇩🇪 · Hendrik van Hees🇩🇪 · Marcus Bleicher🇩🇪

Dilepton production in heavy-ion collisions at various energies is studied using coarse-grained transport simulations. Microscopic output from the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model is hereby put on a grid of space-time cells which allows to extract the local temperature and chemical potential in each cell via an equation of state. The dilepton emission is then calculated applying in-medium spectral functions from hadronic many-body theory and partonic production rates based on lattice calculations. The comparison of the resulting spectra with experimental data shows that the dilepton excess beyond the decay contributions from a hadronic cocktail reflects the trajectory of the fireball in the plane of the QCD phase diagram.

Sneutrino driven GUT Inflation in Supergravity

    Tomas E. Gonzalo🇳🇴 · Lucien Heurtier🇧🇪 · Ahmad Moursy🇪🇬

In this paper, we embed the model of flipped GUT sneutrino inflation -in a flipped SU(5) or SO(10) set up- developed by Ellis et al. in a supergravity framework. The GUT symmetry is broken by a waterfall which could happen at early or late stage of the inflationary period. The full field dynamics is thus studied in detail and these two main inflationary configurations are exposed, whose cosmological predictions are both in agreement with recent astrophysical measurements. The model has an interesting feature where the inflaton has natural decay channels to the MSSM particles allowed by the GUT gauge symmetry. Hence it can account for the reheating after the inflationary epoch.

Core-halo mass relation of ultralight axion dark matter from merger history

    Xiaolong Du🇩🇪 · Christoph Behrens🇩🇪 · Jens C. Niemeyer🇩🇪 · Bodo Schwabe🇩🇪

In the context of structure formation with ultralight axion dark matter, we offer an alternative explanation for the mass relation of solitonic cores and their host halos observed in numerical simulations. Our argument is based entirely on the mass gain that occurs during major mergers of binary cores and largely independent of the initial core-halo mass relation assigned to hosts that have just collapsed. We find a relation between the halo mass and corresponding core mass , , where is the core mass loss fraction. Following the evolution of core masses in stochastic merger trees, we find empirical evidence for our model. Our results are useful for statistically modeling the effects of dark matter cores on the properties of galaxies and their substructures in axion dark matter cosmologies.

Two-body wave functions and compositeness from scattering amplitudes. I. General properties with schematic models

    Takayasu Sekihara (JAEA, Ibaraki)🇯🇵

For a general two-body bound state in quantum mechanics, both in the stable and decaying cases, we establish a way to extract its two-body wave function in momentum space from the scattering amplitude of the constituent two particles. For this purpose, we first show that the two-body wave function of the bound state corresponds to the residue of the off-shell scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Then, we examine our scheme to extract the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude in several schematic models. As a result, the two-body wave functions from the Lippmann--Schwinger equation coincides with that from the Schrödinger equation for an energy-independent interaction. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically scaled; the norm of the two-body wave function, to which we refer as the compositeness, is unity for an energy-independent interaction, while the compositeness deviates from unity for an energy-dependent interaction, which can be interpreted to implement missing channel contributions. We also discuss general properties of the two-body wave function and compositeness for bound states in the schematic models.
