Computation of Heavy Quarkonium Spectrum in Perturbative QCD

    Yukinari Sumino🇯🇵

Non-relativistic bound state theories for QED and QCD have become fairly mature and amenable to a textbook-level understanding and computation. In this talk we give an introductory review of the following subjects related to the recent computation of the heavy quarkonium spectrum using perturbative QCD: (1) Technological developments in higher-order computation, (2) Physics predictions, (3) Challenge towards analytic evaluation of the 3-loop static QCD potential.

Neutrino Jets from High-Mass Gauge Bosons in TeV-Scale Left-Right Symmetric Models

    Manimala Mitra🇮🇳 · Richard Ruiz🇬🇧 · Darren J. Scott🇬🇧 · Michael Spannowsky🇬🇧

We re-examine the discovery potential at hadron colliders of high-mass right-handed (RH) gauge bosons - an inherent ingredient of Left-Right Symmetric Models (LRSM). We focus on the regime where the is very heavy compared to the heavy Majorana neutrino , and investigate an alternative signature for decays. The produced neutrinos are highly boosted in this mass regime. Subsequently, their decays via off-shell bosons to jets, i.e., are highly collimated, forming a single neutrino jet . The final-state collider signature is then , instead of the widely studied . Present search strategies are not sensitive to this hierarchical mass regime due to the breakdown of the collider signature definition. We take into account QCD corrections beyond next-to-leading order (NLO) that are important for high-mass Drell-Yan processes at the 13 TeV Large Hadron Collider (LHC). For the first time, we evaluate production at NLO with threshold resummation at next-to-next-to-leading logarithm (NNLL) matched to the threshold-improved parton distributions. With these improvements, we find that a of mass TeV and mass ratio of can be discovered with a statistical significance at 13 TeV after of data. Extending the analysis to the hypothetical 100 TeV Very Large Hadron Collider (VLHC), can be obtained for masses up to with approximately .

Probing neutrino nature at Borexino detector with chromium neutrino source

    W. Sobków (1)🇵🇱 · A. Błaut (1) ((1) Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Wrocław, Poland)🇵🇱

In this paper, we indicate a possibility of utilizing the intense chromium source () in probing the neutrino nature in low energy neutrino experiments with the ultra-low threshold and background real-time Borexino detector located near the source (). We analyze the elastic scattering of electron neutrinos (Dirac or Majorana, respectively) on the unpolarized electrons in the relativistic neutrino limit. We assume that the incoming neutrino beam is the superposition of left-right chiral states. Left chiral neutrinos may be detected by the standard and non-standard scalar , tensor interactions, while right chiral ones partake only in the exotic and interactions. Our model-independent study is carried out for the flavour (current) neutrino eigenstates. We compute the expected event number for the standard interaction of the left chiral neutrinos using the current experimental values of standard couplings and in the case of left-right chiral superposition. We show that the significant decrement in the event number due to the interference terms between the standard and exotic interactions for the Majorana 's may appear. The C. L. sensitivity contours in the planes of corresponding exotic couplings are also found. The presence of interferences in the Majorana case gives the stronger constraints than for the Dirac neutrinos, even if the neutrino source is placed outside the detector.

Is there a signal for Lorentz non-invariance in existing radioactive decay data?

    M. J. Mueterthies🇺🇸 · D. E. Krause🇺🇸 · A. Longman🇺🇸 · V. E. Barnes🇺🇸 · E. Fischbach🇺🇸

Measurements of the beta decay rates of nuclei have revealed annual periodicities with approximately the same relative amplitude even though the half-lives range over nine orders of magnitude. Here we show that this can be explained if the emitted neutrinos behave as if they propagate in a medium with a refractive index which varies as the Earth orbits the sun. This refractive index may be due to fundamental Lorentz non-invariance (LNI), or apparent LNI arising from interactions with solar or relic neutrinos, or dark matter. Additionally, this medium could have consequences for experiments attempting to measure the neutrino mass.

    Quark mass dependence of H-dibaryon

    Yasuhiro Yamaguchi🇯🇵 · Tetsuo Hyodo🇯🇵

The H-dibaryon is the exotic multiquark state with baryon number 2 and strangeness . The existence of the deeply bound H-dibaryon is excluded by the observation of the double hypernuclei. However the recent Lattice QCD simulations have found the bound state below the threshold with large quark masses by HALQCD and NPLQCD collaborations. In this talk, the quark mass dependence of the H-dibaryon mass is discussed using the pionless effective field theory (EFT) where a bare H-dibaryon field is coupled with two-baryon states. We determine the parameters in this theory by fitting the recent Lattice QCD results in the SU(3) limit. As a result, we obtain the attractive scattering length at the physical point where the H-dibaryon is unbound.

    Decays of the vector glueball

    Francesco Giacosa🇩🇪 · Julia Sammet🇩🇪 · Stanislaus Janowski🇩🇪

We calculate two- and three-body decays of the (lightest) vector glueball into (pseudo)scalar, (axial-)vector, as well as pseudovector and excited vector mesons\textbf{ }in the framework of a model of QCD. While absolute values of widths cannot be predicted because the corresponding coupling constants are unknown, some interesting branching ratios can be evaluated\textbf{ }by setting the mass of the yet hypothetical vector glueball to GeV as predicted by quenched Lattice QCD\textbf{.} We find that the decay mode should be one of the largest (both through the decay chain and through the direct coupling ) Similarly, the (direct and indirect) decay into is sizable. Moreover, the decays into and are, although subleading, possible and could play a role in explaining the puzzle of the charmonium state thank to a (small) mixing with the vector glueball. The vector glueball can be directly formed at the ongoing BESIII experiment as well as at the future PANDA experiment at the FAIR facility. If the width is sufficiently small ( MeV) it should not escape future detection. It should be stressed that the employed model is based on some inputs and simplifying assumptions: the value of glueball mass (at present, the quenched lattice value is used), the lack of mixing of the glueball with other quarkonium states, and the use of few interaction terms. It then represents a first step toward the identification of the main decay channels of the vector glueball, but shall be improved when corresponding experimental candidates and/or new lattice results will be available.

Classification of simple heavy vector triplet models

    Tomohiro Abe🇯🇵 · Ryo Nagai🇯🇵

We investigate decay modes of spin-1 heavy vector bosons () from the viewpoint of perturbative unitarity in a model-independent manner. Perturbative unitarity requires some relations among couplings. The relations are called unitarity sum rules. We derive the unitarity sum rules from processes that contain two fermions and two gauge bosons. We find the relations between couplings to the SM fermions and couplings to the SM gauge bosons (). Using the coupling relations, we calculate partial decay widths for decays into and . We show that Br( 2 in the system that contains and CP-even scalars as well as the SM particles. This result is independent of the number of the CP-even scalars. We also show that contributions of CP-odd scalars help to make Br() larger than Br() as long as the CP-odd scalars couple to both the SM fermions and the SM gauge bosons. The existence of the CP-odd scalar couplings is a useful guideline to construct models that predict Br( 2. Our analysis relies only on the perturbative unitarity of . Therefore our result can be applied to various models.

Calculation of Regge trajectories of strange resonances and identification of the K0*(800) as a non-ordinary meson

    J.R. Peláez · A. Rodas

We review how the Regge trajectory of an elastic resonance can be obtained just from its pole position and coupling, using a dispersive formalism. This allows us to deal correctly with the finite widths of resonances in Regge trajectories. In this way we can calculate the Regge trajectories for the , and , obtaining ordinary linear Regge trajectories, expected for resonances. In contrast, for the meson, the resulting Regge trajectory is non-linear and with much smaller slope, strongly supporting its non-ordinary nature.

Complementarity Between Hyperkamiokande and DUNE in Determining Neutrino Oscillation Parameters

    Shinya Fukasawa🇯🇵 · Monojit Ghosh🇯🇵 · Osamu Yasuda🇯🇵

In this work we investigate the sensitivity to the neutrino mass hierarchy, the octant of the mixing angle and the CP phase in the future long-baseline experiments T2HK and DUNE as well as in the atmospheric neutrino observation at Hyperkamiokande (HK). We show for the first time that the sensitivity is enhanced greatly if we combine these three experiments. Our results show that the hierarchy sensitivity of both T2HK and HK are limited due to the presence of parameter degeneracy. But this degeneracy is removed when T2HK and HK are added together. With T2HK+HK (DUNE), the neutrino mass hierarchy can be determined at least at (8 ) C.L. for any value of true . With T2HK+HK+DUNE the significance of the mass hierarchy increases to almost 15 for the unfavorable value of . For these combined setup, octant can be resolved except at C.L for both the hierarchies irrespective of the value of . The significance of CP violation is around 10 C.L. for . Apart from that these combined facility has the capability to discover CP violation for at least fraction of the true values at for any value of true . We also find that, with combination of all these three, the precision of , and becomes 0.3%, 2% and 20% respectively. We also clarify how the octant degeneracy occurs in the HK atmospheric neutrino experiment.

Indirect probes of the trilinear Higgs coupling: and

    Martin Gorbahn🇬🇧 · Ulrich Haisch🇬🇧

In the framework of the Standard Model effective field theory, we examine the indirect constraints on the trilinear Higgs coupling that arise from Higgs production in gluon-gluon-fusion and diphoton Higgs decays. We calculate 2-loop contributions to the and amplitudes that are affected by modifications of the trilinear Higgs-boson vertex. This calculation involves both the computation of anomalous dimensions and finite matching corrections. Based on our new results, we analyse the sensitivity of present and future measurements of the and couplings to shifts in . Under the assumption that is the only dimension-6 operator that alters the trilinear Higgs interactions, we find that at present the considered loop-level probes provide stronger constraints than . At future high-energy colliders indirect determinations of the trilinear Higgs coupling may be possible, making precision measurements of and a useful addition to direct extractions of through double-Higgs production.

Implications of the 750 GeV gamma-gamma Resonance as a Case Study for the International Linear Collider

If the gamma-gamma resonance at 750 GeV suggested by 2015 LHC data turns out to be a real effect, what are the implications for the physics case and upgrade path of the International Linear Collider? Whether or not the resonance is confirmed, this question provides an interesting case study testing the robustness of the ILC physics case. In this note, we address this question with two points: (1) Almost all models proposed for the new 750 GeV particle require additional new particles with electroweak couplings. The key elements of the 500 GeV ILC physics program---precision measurements of the Higgs boson, the top quark, and 4-fermion interactions---will powerfully discriminate among these models. This information will be important in conjunction with new LHC data, or alone, if the new particles accompanying the 750 GeV resonance are beyond the mass reach of the LHC. (2) Over a longer term, the energy upgrade of the ILC to 1 TeV already discussed in the ILC TDR will enable experiments in gamma-gamma and e+e- collisions to directly produce and study the 750 GeV particle from these unique initial states.

Limiting the Effective Mass and New Physics Parameters from

Ram Lal Awasthi (IISER Mohali)🇮🇳 · Arnab Dasgupta (IOP Bhubaneswar)🇮🇳 · Manimala Mitra (IPPP Durham and IISER Mohali)🇮🇳

In the light of the recent result from KamLAND-Zen (KLZ) and GERDA Phase-II, we update the bounds on the effective mass and the new physics parameters, relevant for neutrinoless double beta decay (). In addition to the light Majorana neutrino exchange, we analyze beyond standard model contributions that arise in Left-Right symmetry and R-Parity violating supersymmetry. The improved limit from KLZ constrains the effective mass of light neutrino exchange down to sub-eV mass regime 0.06 eV. Using the correlation between the and half-lives, we show that the KLZ limit individually rules out the positive claim of observation of for all nuclear matrix element compilation. For the Left-Right symmetry and R-parity violating supersymmetry, the KLZ bound implies a factor of 2 improvement of the effective mass and the new physics parameters. The future ton scale experiments such as, nEXO will further constrain these models, in particular, will rule out standard as well as Type-II dominating LRSM inverted hierarchy scenario.

STARlight: A Monte Carlo simulation program for ultra-peripheral collisions of relativistic ions

    Spencer R. Klein🇺🇸 · Joakim Nystrand🇳🇴 · Janet Seger🇺🇸 · Yuri Gorbunov🇺🇸 · Joey Butterworth🇺🇸

Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) have been a significant source of study at RHIC and the LHC. In these collisions, the two colliding nuclei interact electromagnetically, via two-photon or photonuclear interactions, but not hadronically; they effectively miss each other. Photonuclear interactions produce vector meson states or more general photonuclear final states, while two-photon interactions can produce lepton or meson pairs, or single mesons. In these interactions, the collision geometry plays a major role. We present a program, STARlight, that calculates the cross-sections for a variety of UPC final states and also creates, via Monte Carlo simulation, events for use in determining detector efficiency.

Strain induced Chiral Magnetic Effect in Weyl semimetals

    Alberto Cortijo🇪🇸 · Dmitri Kharzeev🇺🇸 · Karl Landsteiner🇪🇸 · María A.H. Vozmediano🇪🇸

We argue that strain applied to a time-reversal and inversion breaking Weyl semi-metal in a magnetic field can induce an electric current via the chiral magnetic effect. A tight binding model is used to show that strain generically changes the locations in the Brillouin zone but also the energies of the band touching points (tips of the Weyl cones). Since axial charge in a Weyl semi-metal can relax via inter-valley scattering processes the induced current will decay with a timescale given by the lifetime of a chiral quasiparticle. We estimate the strength and lifetime of the current for typical material parameters and find that it should be experimentally observable.

Diffuse Galactic antimatter from faint thermonuclear supernovae in old stellar populations

Our Galaxy hosts the annihilation of a few low-energy positrons every second. Radioactive isotopes capable of supplying such positrons are synthesised in stars, stellar remnants, and supernovae. For decades, however, there has been no positive identification of a main stellar positron source leading to suggestions that many positrons originate from exotic sources like the Galaxy's central super-massive black hole or dark matter annihilation. %, but such sources would not explain the recently-detected positron signal from the extended Galactic disk. Here we show that a single type of transient source, deriving from stellar populations of age 3-6 Gyr and yielding ~0.03 of the positron emitter Ti, can simultaneously explain the strength and morphology of the Galactic positron annihilation signal and the solar system abundance of the Ti decay product Ca. This transient is likely the merger of two low-mass white dwarfs, observed in external galaxies as the sub-luminous, thermonuclear supernova known as SN1991bg-like.

    Heavy spin-2 Dark Matter

    Eugeny Babichev🇫🇷 · Luca Marzola🇪🇪 · Martti Raidal🇪🇪 · Angnis Schmidt-May🇨🇭 · Federico Urban🇪🇪 · Hardi Veermäe🇪🇪 · Mikael von Strauss🇫🇷

We provide further details on a recent proposal addressing the nature of the dark sectors in cosmology and demonstrate that all current observations related to Dark Matter can be explained by the presence of a heavy spin-2 particle. Massive spin-2 fields and their gravitational interactions are uniquely described by ghost-free bimetric theory, which is a minimal and natural extension of General Relativity. In this setup, the largeness of the physical Planck mass is naturally related to extremely weak couplings of the heavy spin-2 field to baryonic matter and therefore explains the absence of signals in experiments dedicated to Dark Matter searches. It also ensures the phenomenological viability of our model as we confirm by comparing it with cosmological and local tests of gravity. At the same time, the spin-2 field possesses standard gravitational interactions and it decays universally into all Standard Model fields but not into massless gravitons. Matching the measured DM abundance together with the requirement of stability constrains the spin-2 mass to be in the 1 to 100 TeV range.

Measurements of CPT Violation at LHCb

Jeroen van Tilburg (for the LHCb Collaboration)🇳🇱

Recent measurements of CPT violation and Lorentz symmetry breaking in mixing and mixing, obtained from data taken by the LHCb experiment, are highlighted. The results are expressed in terms of the Standard-Model Extension (SME) coefficients, which incorporate both CPT and Lorentz violation. Due to the large boost of the mesons at LHCb, the SME coefficients can be determined with high precision. The bounds on these coefficients are improved significantly compared to previous measurements.

A new relativistic hydrodynamics code for high-energy heavy-ion collisions

    Kazuhisa Okamoto🇯🇵 · Yukinao Akamatsu🇯🇵 · Chiho Nonaka🇯🇵

We construct a new Godunov type relativistic hydrodynamics code in Milne coordinates, using a Riemann solver based on the two-shock approximation which is stable under the existence of large shock waves. We check the correctness of the numerical algorithm by comparing numerical calculations and analytical solutions in various problems, such as shock tubes, expansion of matter into the vacuum, the Landau-Khalatnikov solution, and propagation of fluctuations around Bjorken flow and Gubser flow. We investigate the energy and momentum conservation property of our code in a test problem of longitudinal hydrodynamic expansion with an initial condition for high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We also discuss numerical viscosity in the test problems of expansion of matter into the vacuum and conservation properties. Furthermore, we discuss how the numerical stability is affected by the source terms of relativistic numerical hydrodynamics in Milne coordinates.

    Non-Gaussianity as a Particle Detector

We study the imprints of massive particles with spin on cosmological correlators. Using the framework of the effective field theory of inflation, we classify the couplings of these particles to the Goldstone boson of broken time translations and the graviton. We show that it is possible to generate observable non-Gaussianity within the regime of validity of the effective theory, as long as the masses of the particles are close to the Hubble scale and their interactions break the approximate conformal symmetry of the inflationary background. We derive explicit shape functions for the scalar and tensor bispectra that can serve as templates for future observational searches.

Further Evidence For Zero Crossing On The Three Gluon Vertex

    Anthony G. Duarte🇵🇹 · Orlando Oliveira🇵🇹 · Paulo J. Silva🇵🇹

The three gluon one particle irreducible function is investigated using lattice QCD simulations over a large region of momentum in the Landau gauge for four dimensional pure Yang-Mills equations and the SU(3) gauge group. The results favor a zero crossing of the gluon form factor for momenta in the range MeV. This zero crossing is required to happen in order to have a properly defined set of Dyson-Schwinger equations. It is also shown that in the high momentum region the lattice results are compatible with the predictions of renormalisation group improved perturbation theory.
