    Extraction of parton distributions from lattice QCD

    We review the calculation of moments of both the polarized and unpolarized parton distribution functions of the nucleon in lattice QCD, and in particular their extrapolation to the physical region. We also discuss the reconstruction of the x dependence of the valence quark distributions in the nucleon from a finite number of lattice moments.

    The Factorization Method for Simulating Systems With a Complex Action

    We propose a method for Monte Carlo simulations of systems with a complex action. The method has the advantages of being in principle applicable to any such system and provides a solution to the overlap problem. We apply it in random matrix theory of finite density QCD where we compare with analytic results. In this model we find non--commutativity of the limits and which could be of relevance in QCD at finite density.

    String effects in SU(2) lattice gauge theory

    We discuss the effective string picture for the confining regime of lattice gauge theories at zero and finite temperature. We present results of extensive Monte Carlo simulations - performed with the Luscher and Weisz algorithm - for SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in 2+1 dimensions. We also address the issue of "string universality" by comparing our results with those obtained in other lattice gauge theories.

    Preliminary results from a simulation of quenched QCD with overlap fermions on a large lattice

    We simulate quenched QCD with the overlap Dirac operator. We work with the Wilson gauge action at beta=6 on an 18^3x64 lattice. We calculate quark propagators for a single source point and quark mass ranging from am_q=0.03 to 0.75. We present here preliminary results based on the propagators for 60 gauge field configurations.
