A Detailed Analysis of a Modified Fritzsch Scheme of Quark Mass Matrices

Abstract

We investigate in detail a modified version of the Fritzsch scheme where the diagonal entries $(M_{u, d})_{22}$ are introduced as free parameters instead of being zero. We find that $(M_{u})_{22}$ and $(M_{d})_{22}$ are restricted to l in the range $m_{u} - m_{c} \leq (M_{u})_{22} < m_{t} - m_{c}$ and $m_{d} - m_{s} \leq (M_{d})_{22} < m_{b} - m_{s}$ . In the context of this scheme, we obtain the ratio $\frac{∣ V _{t d} ∣}{∣ V _{t s} ∣} \approx \frac{m _{d}}{m _{s}}$ under quite general conditions whereas the ratio $\frac{∣ V _{u b} ∣}{∣ V _{c b} ∣}$ is sensitive to the values of $(M_{u})_{22}$ and $(M_{d})_{22}$ . The two independent phases are found to take rather preferred values.
