Neutrino parameters from matter effects in $P_{ee}$ at long baselines

Abstract

We show that the earth matter effects in the ${\nu }_{\mathrm{e}}\to {\nu }_{\mathrm{e}}$ survival probability can be used to cleanly determine the third leptonic mixing angle ${\theta }_{13}$ and the sign of the atmospheric neutrino mass squared difference, $\Delta m_{31}^2$, using a $\beta$-beam as a ${\nu }_e$ source.
