Results from the OPERA Experiment

Abstract

The OPERA experiment reached its main goal by proving the appearance of ${\nu }_{\tau }$ in the CNGS ${\nu }_{\mu }$ beam. A sample of five ${\nu }_{\tau }$ candidates was collected allowing to reject the null hypothesis at $5.1\sigma$. The estimation of $\Delta m_{23}^2$ in "appearance mode" has been obtained. Updates on the search for ${\nu }_{\mu }\to {\nu }_e$ oscillations and on the search for sterile neutrino mixing in the ${\nu }_{\mu }\to {\nu }_e$ and ${\nu }_{\mu }\to {\nu }_{\tau }$ channels are also reported.
