Inclusive charmed-meson production from bottom hadron decays at the LHC

Abstract

We present predictions for the inclusive productions of the D meson originating from bottom hadrons at the CERN LHC in the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme at next-to-leading order. We present results using two methods to describe the transition for $b\to D$: a two-step transition $b\to B\to D$, based on the $b\to B$ fragmentation functions and the spectra for $B\to D$ as measured by CLEO and a one-step transition based on the fragmentation functions for $b\to D$. The results of both approaches are compared.
