Benchmarking projected Hartree-Fock as an approximation

    Stephanie M. Lauber🇺🇸 · Hayden C. Frye🇺🇸 · Calvin W. Johnson🇺🇸

We benchmark angular-momentum projected{-after-variation} Hartree-Fock calculations as an approximation to full configuration-interaction results in a shell model basis. For such a simple approximation we find reasonably good agreement between excitation spectra, including for many odd- and odd-odd nuclides. We frequently find shape coexistence, in the form of multiple Hartree-Fock minima; {mixing in shape coexistence, the first step beyond single-reference projected Hartree-Fock}, demonstrably improves the spectrum in the - and -shells. The complex spectra of germanium isotopes present a challenge: for even the spectra are only moderately good and those of odd bear little resemblance to the configuration-interaction results. Despite this failure we are able to broadly reproduce the odd-even staggering of ground state binding energies, save for germanium isotopes with . To illustrate potential applications, we compute the spectrum of the recently measured dripline nuclide Mg. All in all, projected Hartree-Fock often provides a better description of low-lying nuclear spectra than one might expect. Key to this is the use of gradient descent and unrestricted shapes.

The signature of charge dependent directed flow observables by electromagnetic fields in heavy ion collisions

    Yifeng Sun🇮🇹 · Vincenzo Greco🇮🇹 · Salvatore Plumari🇮🇹

We discuss the generation of the directed flow induced by the electromagnetic field as a function of and . Despite the complex dynamics of charged particles due to strong interactions generating several anisotropies in the azimuthal angle, it is possible at to directly correlate the splitting in of heavy quarks with different charges to some main features of the magnetic field, and in particular its values at formation and freeze-out time. We further found that the slope of the splitting of positively and negatively charged particles at high can be formulated as , where the constants and are constrained by the component of magnetic fields and the sign of is simply determined by the difference in the center of colliding systems at the formation time of particles and at the time when particles leave the effective range of electromagnetic fields or freeze out. The formula is derived from general considerations and is confirmed by several related numerical simulations; it supplies a useful guide to quantify the effect of different magnetic field configurations and provides an evidence of why the measurement of of charm, bottom and leptons from decay and their correlations are a powerful probe of the initial e.m. fields in ultra-relativistic collisions.

The Time-reversal Odd Side of a Jet

    Xiaohui Liu🇨🇳 · Hongxi Xing🇨🇳

We re-examine the jet probes of the nucleon spin and flavor structures. We find for the first time the time-reversal odd (T-odd) component of a jet, conventionally thought to vanish, can survive due to the non-perturbative fragmentation and hadronization effects and could be testable. This additional contribution of a jet will lead to novel jet phenomena relevant for unlocking the access to several spin structures of the nucleon, which were thought to be impossible by using jets. As examples, we show how the T-odd constituent can couple to the proton transversity at the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) and can give rise to the anisotropy in the jet production in annihilations. We expect the T-odd contribution of the jet to have broad applications in high energy nuclear physics.

Interacting quark matter effects on the structure of compact stars

    José C. Jiménez🇧🇷

In this work, we study the effects that interacting quark matter has on the stellar structure of strange and charm quark stars. Additionally, their stability against radial pulsations is analyzed using a first-order formalism for adiabatic general relativistic oscillations. Besides, the early stage of stellar evolution of neutron stars after the supernovae explosion, i.e. protoneutron stars, is investigated by considering the possibility of a first-order phase transition to quark matter rich in leptons, where the dynamics of conversion between phases is studied within a thermal nucleation model. For each kind of compact star mentioned we use for the quark phase the equation of state calculated within cold perturbative QCD (pQCD), parametrized only by its renormalization scale. We note that the original pQCD framework is manipulated appropriately to include neutrinos and extended to add heavy quarks to the original system composed only by up, down and strange quark flavors.

The deconvolution problem of deeply virtual Compton scattering

    V. Bertone🇫🇷 · H. Dutrieux🇫🇷 · C. Mezrag🇫🇷 · H. Moutarde🇫🇷 · P. Sznajder🇵🇱

Generalised parton distributions are instrumental to study both the three-dimensional structure and the energy-momentum tensor of the nucleon, and motivate numerous experimental programmes involving hard exclusive measurements. Based on a next-to-leading order analysis and a careful study of evolution effects, we exhibit non-trivial generalised parton distributions with arbitrarily small imprints on deeply virtual Compton scattering observables. This means that in practice the reconstruction of generalised parton distributions from measurements, known as the deconvolution problem, does not possess a unique solution for this channel. In this Letter we discuss the consequences on the extraction of generalised parton distributions from data and advocate for a multi-channel analysis.

Kubo estimation of the electrical conductivity for a hot relativistic fluid in the presence of a magnetic field

    Sarthak Satapathy🇮🇳 · Snigdha Ghosh🇮🇳 · Sabyasachi Ghosh🇮🇳

We have explored the multi-component structure of electrical conductivity of relativistic Fermionic and Bosonic fluid in presence of magnetic field by using Kubo approach. This is done by explicitly evaluating the thermo-magnetic vector current spectral functions using the real time formalism of finite temperature field theory and the Schwinger proper time formalism. In absence of magnetic field, the one-loop diagramatic representation of Kubo expression of any transport coefficients is exactly same with relaxation time approximation (RTA) based expression, but this equality does not hold for finite magnetic field picture due to lacking of proper implementation of quantum effect in latter approach. We have shown this discrepancy for particular transport coefficient - electrical conductivity, whose starting point in Kubo approach will be electromagnetic current-current correlator and its one-loop skeleton diagram carrying two scalar/Dirac propagators for scalar/Dirac fluid. Through a numerical comparison between RTA and Kubo expressions of conductivity components (parallel and perpendicular), we have attempted to interpret detail quantum field theoretical effect, contained by Kubo expression but not by RTA expression. In classical RTA expression we get magnetic field independent parallel conductivity due to zero Lorentz force but in field theoretical Kubo expression, it decreases and increases with the magnetic field for scalar and Dirac medium respectively due to Landau quantization effect. This parallel component of conductivity can be interpreted as zero momentum limit of quantum fluctuation with same Landau level internal lines. While for perpendicular component of conductivity, fluctuation with Landau level differences are noticed, which might be a new realization of transportation in field theoretical sector.

Energy-independent optical potential from Marchenko equation

    N. A. Khokhlov🇷🇺 · L. I. Studenikina🇷🇺

We present a new algebraic method for solving the inverse problem of quantum scattering theory based on the Marchenko theory. We applied a triangular wave set for the Marchenko equation kernel expansion in a separable form. The separable form allows a reduction of the Marchenko equation to a system of linear equations. For the zero orbital angular momentum, a linear expression of the kernel expansion coefficients is obtained in terms of the Fourier series coefficients of a function depending on the momentum and determined by the scattering data in the finite range of . It is shown that a Fourier series on a finite momentum range () of a function ( is the scattering matrix) defines the potential function of the corresponding radial Schrödinger equation with -step accuracy. A numerical algorithm is developed for the reconstruction of the optical potential from scattering data. The developed procedure is applied to analyze the data up to 3 GeV. It is shown that these data are described by optical energy-independent partial potential.
