Jet momentum broadening in the pre-equilibrium Glasma

    Andreas Ipp🇦🇹 · David I. Müller🇦🇹 · Daniel Schuh🇦🇹

Jets are important probes of heavy ion collisions as they can provide information on the interaction of a highly energetic parton with the medium it traverses. In the hydrodynamic stage of dense, strongly interacting matter, these interactions can be explained in terms of scattering processes, soft gluon emission and collinear parton splittings. However, jets originate even before the hydrodynamic stage. Here we report on the first numerical simulation of transverse momentum broadening of jets stemming from the interaction of partons with boost-invariantly expanding Glasma flux tubes. The Glasma stage is a pre-hydrodynamic stage based on the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation shows strong time-dependence and an intrinsic anisotropy of momentum broadening in the directions transverse to the jet propagation direction.

Comparison of SIA Defect Morphologies from Different Interatomic Potentials for Collision Cascades in W

Utkarsh Bhardwaj · Andrea E. Sand · Manoj Warrier

The morphology of defects formed in collision cascades is an essential aspect of the subsequent evolution of the microstructure. The morphological composition of a defect decides its stability, interaction, and migration properties. We compare the defect morphologies in the primary radiation damage caused by high energy collision cascades simulated using three different interatomic potentials in W. An automated method to identify morphologies of defects is used. While most defects form 1/2\3 dislocation loops, other specific morphologies include \1 dislocation loops, multiple loops clustered together, rings corresponding to C15 configuration and its constituent structures, and a combination of rings and dislocations. The analysis quantifies the distribution of defects among different morphologies and the size distribution of each morphology. We show that the disagreement between predictions of the different potentials regarding defect morphology is much stronger than the differences in predicted defect numbers.

Flavour and Energy Dependence of Chemical Freeze-out Temperatures in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions from RHIC-BES to LHC Energies

    Fernando Antonio Flor🇺🇸 · Gabrielle Olinger🇺🇸 · Rene Bellwied🇺🇸

We present calculations of the chemical freeze-out temperature (T_ch) based on particle yields from STAR and ALICE measured at collision energies ranging from sqrt{s_{NN}} = 11.5 GeV to 5.02 TeV. Employing the Grand Canonical Ensemble approach using the Thermal-FIST Hadron Resonance Gas model package, we show evidence for a flavour-dependent chemical freeze-out in the crossover region of the QCD phase diagram. At a vanishing baryochemical potential, we calculate light and strange flavour freeze-out temperatures T_L = 150.2 +- 2.6 MeV and T_S = 165.1 +- 2.7 MeV, respectively.
