Production Spectra of $^{3}$ He( $π$ , $K$ ) Reactions with Continuum Discretized Coupled Channels

We investigate theoretically $Λ$ production spectra of $^{3}$ He( $π$ , $K$ ) reactions at $p_{π} =$ 1.05--1.20 GeV/ $c$ in the distorted-wave impulse approximation, using the continuum-discretized coupled-channel method. The production cross section of a $_{Λ}^{3}$ H(1/2 $^{+}$ ) ground state is also discussed.

Neutron radii and neutron skin of neutron-rich nuclei deduced from proton-nucleus total reaction cross sections

A new method is proposed to deduce the neutron radii of neutron-rich nuclei. This method requires measuring the reaction cross sections of both the neutron-rich nucleus and its stable isotope at the same energy on a proton target. Using this method and the available experimental data of $^{12, 22}$ C + $p$ and $^{9, 14}$ Be + $p$ at 40 $A$ MeV, the neutron radii of $^{22}$ C and $^{14}$ Be have been deduced for the first time.

First 4D lattice calculation of transport coefficient $q^$ for pure gluon plasma

The transport coefficient $q^$ plays a pivotal role in describing the phenomenon of jet quenching in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. It is challenging to compute this coefficient from first principles due to its non-perturbative nature. In this article, we present an $ab$ - $ini t i o$ formulation of $q^$ based on the standard techniques of perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) and lattice gauge theory. We construct $q^$ by considering a leading order (LO) process where a hard parton produced from the hard scattering undergoes transverse broadening due to scatterings with the thermal medium. We do an analytic continuation to the Euclidean region and use the dispersion relation to express $q^$ in terms of series of local Field-Strength-Field-Strength (FF) operators. Each term in the series is suppressed by the hard scale $q^{-}$ . Finally, we compute the local operators on the quenched SU(3) lattice and present our estimates for $q^$ .

Quantifying the uncertainties on spinodal instability in stellar matter through meta-modeling

The influence of the uncertainties of the equation of state empirical parameters on the neutron stars crust-core phase transition is explored within a meta-modeling approach, in which the energy per particle is expanded as a Taylor series in density and asymmetry around the saturation point. The phase transition point is estimated from the intersection of the spinodal instability region for dynamical fluctuations with the chemical equilibrium curve. Special attention is paid to the inclusion of high-order parameters of the Taylor series and their influence on the transition point. An uncorrelated prior distribution is considered for the empirical parameters, with bulk properties constrained through effective field theory predictions, while the surface parameters are controlled from a fit of nuclear masses using the extended Thomas Fermi approximation. The results show that the isovector compressibility $K_{sy m}$ and skewness $Q_{sy m}$ have the most significant correlations with the transition point, along with the previously observed influence of the $L_{sy m}$ parameter. The estimated density and pressure of the crust-core transition are $n_{t} = (0.071 \pm 0.011) f m^{- 3}$ and $P_{t} = (0.294 \pm 0.102) M e V f m^{- 3}$ .

Spectrum and structure of octet and decuplet baryons and their positive-parity excitations

A continuum approach to the three valence-quark bound-state problem in quantum field theory, employing parametrisations of the necessary kernel elements, is used to compute the spectrum and Poincaré-covariant wave functions for all flavour- $S U (3)$ octet and decuplet baryons and their first positive-parity excitations. Such analyses predict the existence of nonpointlike, dynamical quark-quark (diquark) correlations within all baryons; and a uniformly sound description of the systems studied is obtained by retaining flavour-antitriplet--scalar and flavour-sextet--pseudovector diquarks. Thus constituted, the rest-frame wave function of every system studied is primarily $S$ -wave in character; and the first positive-parity excitation of each octet or decuplet baryon exhibits the characteristics of a radial excitation. Importantly, every ground-state octet and decuplet baryon possesses a radial excitation. Hence, the analysis predicts the existence of positive-parity excitations of the $Ξ$ , $Ξ^{*}$ , $Ω$ baryons, with masses, respectively (in GeV): 1.84(08), 1.89(04), 2.05(02). These states have not yet been empirically identified. This body of analysis suggests that the expression of emergent mass generation is the same in all $u$ , $d$ , $s$ baryons and, notably, that dynamical quark-quark correlations play an essential role in the structure of each one. It also provides the basis for developing an array of predictions that can be tested in new generation experiments.

Tides in merging neutron stars: Consistency of the GW170817 event with experimental data on finite nuclei

The agreement of the nuclear equation of state (EoS) deduced from the GW170817 based tidal deformability with the one obtained from empirical data on microscopic nuclei is examined. It is found that suitably chosen experimental data on isoscalar and isovector modes of nuclear excitations together with the observed maximum neutron star mass constrain the EoS which displays a very good congruence with the GW170817 inspired one. The giant resonances in nuclei are found to be instrumental in limiting the tidal deformability parameter and the radius of neutron star in somewhat narrower bounds. At the 1 $σ$ level, the values of the canonical tidal deformability $Λ_{1.4}$ and the neutron star radius $R_{1.4}$ come out to be $267 \pm 144$ and $11.6 \pm 1.0$ km, respectively.

Multi-particle and charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider

We study multi-particle azimuthal correlations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at a center of mass energy of 200 GeV. We use the IP-Glasma model to initialize the viscous hydrodynamic simulation MUSIC and employ the UrQMD transport model for the low temperature region of the collisions. In addition, we study effects of local charge and global momentum conservation among the sampled particles. With the exception of the lowest order three particle correlator $C_{112}$ , our framework provides a good description of the existing charge inclusive azimuthal correlation data for Au+Au and U+U collisions at RHIC. We also present results for charge dependent two and three particle correlators in Au+Au and U+U collisions, and make predictions for isobar (Ru+Ru & Zr+Zr) collisions to provide a much needed baseline for the search for the Chiral Magnetic Effect at RHIC.
