Comments on the chemical and kinetic equilibration in heavy ion collisions

    E.Shuryak🇺🇸

I argue that perturbative scattering of quarks and gluons are incompatible with lattice and heavy ion data on QGP properties. The non-perturbative mechanisms for quasiparticle rescattering and quark production are briefly discussed, as well as experiments needed to measure matter anisotropy and quark density at early stages of the collisions.

Relativistic fluid dynamics of spin-polarized systems of particles

    Wojciech Florkowski🇵🇱 · Bengt Friman🇩🇪 · Amaresh Jaiswal🇮🇳 · Radoslaw Ryblewski🇵🇱 · Enrico Speranza🇩🇪

We review basic ingredients of the recently introduced perfect-fluid hydrodynamic equations for particles with spin one-half. For a quasi-realistic setup, first numerical solutions for various hydrodynamic variables including the spin polarization tensor are presented. Our results indicate that the initial spin polarization of the hottest region may play a dominant role in the polarization of particles at freeze-out.

Hydrodynamics of Fermi arcs: Bulk flow and surface collective modes

    E. V. Gorbar🇺🇦 · V. A. Miransky🇨🇦 · I. A. Shovkovy🇺🇸 · P. O. Sukhachov🇨🇦

The hydrodynamic description of the Fermi arc surface states is proposed. In view of the strong suppression of scattering on impurities, the hydrodynamic regime for Fermi arc states should be, in principle, plausible. By using the kinetic theory, the Fermi arc hydrodynamics is derived and the corresponding effects on the bulk flow and surface collective modes are studied. For the bulk flow, the key effect of the proposed Fermi arc hydrodynamics is the modification of the corresponding boundary conditions. In a slab geometry, it is shown that, depending on the transfer rates between the surface and bulk, the hydrodynamic flow of the electron fluid inside the slab could be significantly altered and even enhanced near the surfaces. As to the spectrum of the surface collective modes, in agreement with earlier studies, it is found that the Fermi arcs allow for an additional gapless spectrum branch and a strong anisotropy of the surface plasmon dispersion relations in momentum space. The gapped modes are characterized by closed elliptic contours of constant frequency in momentum space.

First observation of 20B and 21B

The most neutron-rich boron isotopes 20B and 21B have been observed for the first time following proton removal from 22N and 22C at energies around 230 MeV/nucleon. Both nuclei were found to exist as resonances which were detected through their decay into 19B and one or two neutrons. Two-proton removal from 22N populated a prominent resonance-like structure in 20B at around 2.5 MeV above the one-neutron decay threshold, which is interpreted as arising from the closely spaced 1-,2- ground-state doublet predicted by the shell model. In the case of proton removal from 22C, the 19B plus one- and two-neutron channels were consistent with the population of a resonance in 21B 2.47+-0.19 MeV above the two-neutron decay threshold, which is found to exhibit direct two-neutron decay. The ground-state mass excesses determined for 20,21B are found to be in agreement with mass surface extrapolations derived within the latest atomic-mass evaluations.

Lattice QCD and Three-particle Decays of Resonances

    Maxwell T. Hansen🇨🇭 · Stephen R. Sharpe🇺🇸

Most strong-interaction resonances have decay channels involving three or more particles, including many of the recently discovered , and resonances. In order to study such resonances from first principles using lattice QCD, one must understand finite-volume effects for three particles in the cubic box used in calculations. Here we review efforts to develop a three-particle quantization condition that relates finite-volume energies to infinite-volume scattering amplitudes. We describe in detail the three approaches that have been followed, and present new results on the relationship between the corresponding results. We show examples of the numerical implementation of all three approaches and point out the important issues that remain to be resolved.
