Quadrupole Phonons in the Cadmium Isotopes

    A. Leviatan🇮🇱 · N. Gavrielov🇮🇱 · J.E. Garcia-Ramos🇪🇸 · P. Van Isacker🇫🇷

A key question concerning the spherical-vibrator attributes of states in Cadmium isotopes is addressed by means of a boson Hamiltonian encompassing U(5) partial dynamical symmetry. The U(5) symmetry is preserved in a segment of the spectrum and is broken in particular non-yrast states, and the resulting mixing with the intruder states is small. The vibrational character is thus maintained in the majority of low-lying normal states, as observed in Cd.

One- and two- neutron halo at the dripline. From 11Be to 11Li and back: 10Li and parity inversion

    R. A. Broglia🇮🇹 · F. Barranco🇪🇸 · G. Potel🇺🇸 · E. Vigezzi🇮🇹

The nuclei 11Be and 11Li provide paradigmatic examples of one-and two- neutron halo systems. Because the reaction 1H(11Li,9Li)3H is dominated by successive transfer, one can use the quantitative picture emerging from a nu- clear field theory description of the structure and reaction mechanism of the above Cooper pair transfer process and of the 2H(10Be,11Be)1H and 1H(11Be,10Be)2H reactions, to shed light on the structure of 10Li. This analysis provides important support for a parity inverted scenario with a 1/2+ virtual state at about 0.2 MeV.

Skyrme functional with tensor terms from \textit{ab initio} calculations of neutron-proton drops

Shihang Shen · Gianluca Colò · Xavier Roca-Maza

A new Skyrme functional devised to account well for standard nuclear properties as well as for spin and spin-isospin properties is presented. The main novelty of this work relies on the introduction of tensor terms guided by \textit{ab initio} relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculations of neutron-proton drops. The inclusion of tensor term does not decrease the accuracy in describing bulk properties of nuclei, experimental data of some selected spherical nuclei such as binding energies, charge radii, and spin-orbit splittings can be well fitted. The new functional is applied to the investigation of various collective excitations such as the Giant Monopole Resonance (GMR), the Isovector Giant Dipole Resonance (IVGDR), the Gamow-Teller Resonance (GTR), and the Spin-Dipole Resonance (SDR). The overall description with the new functional is satisfactory and the tensor terms are shown to be important particularly for the improvement of the Spin-Dipole Resonance results. Predictions for the neutron skin thickness based on the non-energy weighted sum rule of the Spin-Dipole Resonance are also given.

Neutrino recoil force in electron-capture decay of polarized nuclei: measurement prospects and potential applications

    A.L. Barabanov🇷🇺 · O.A. Titov🇷🇺

Due to a directional asymmetry of neutrino emission caused by parity violation, a sample of radioactive atoms experiences a small recoil force from neutrino radiation accompanying electron capture by polarized nuclei. An expression for this force is obtained for the case of allowed nuclear transitions. Prospects to measure this force by the use of modern micromechanical devices are considered. Numerical estimates for the force are presented for a number of most suitable radioactive isotopes. Potential applications for the weak interaction studies are discussed including the possibility to search for hypothetical Lorentz invariance violation.

Simulation studies of and correlation functions in pp collisions with the PYTHIA and HERWIG models

    Baidyanath Sahoo🇮🇳 · Basanta Kumar Nandi🇮🇳 · Prabhat Pujahari🇮🇳 · Sumit Basu🇺🇸 · Claude Pruneau🇺🇸

We report studies of charge-independent (CI) and charge-dependent (CD) two-particle differential-number correlation functions, , and transverse momentum () correlation functions, , of charged particles in = 2.76 TeV pp collisions with the PYTHIA and HERWIG models. Model predictions are presented for inclusive charged hadrons (), as well as pions (), kaons (K), and (anti-)protons (/p) in the ranges , , and , with full azimuthal coverage in the range . We compare the model predictions for the strength and shape of the and correlators as these pertain to recent measurements by the ALICE collaboration. The and correlation functions estimated with PYTHIA and HERWIG exhibit qualitatively similar near-side and away-side correlation structures but feature important differences. Our analysis indicates that comparative studies of and correlation functions would provide valuable insight towards the understanding of particle production in pp collisions, and by extension, should also be useful in studies of heavy-ion collisions. Comparison of the dependence of and could contribute, in particular, to a better understanding and modeling of the angular ordering of particles produced by hadronization in jets, as well as a better description of jet fragmentation functions of identified species at low momentum fraction .

Chiralspin symmetry and its implications for QCD

    L. Ya. Glozman🇦🇹

In a local gauge-invariant theory with massless Dirac fermions a symmetry of the Lorentz-invariant fermion charge is larger than a symmetry of the Lagrangian as a whole. While the Dirac Lagrangian exhibits only a chiral symmetry, the fermion charge operator is invariant under a larger symmetry group, SU(2N_F), that includes chiral transformations as well as SU(2)_{CS} chiralspin transformations that mix the right- and left-handed components of fermions. Consequently a symmetry of the electric interaction, that is driven by the charge density, is larger than a symmetry of the magnetic interaction and of the kinetic term. This allows to separate in some situations electric and magnetic contributions. In particutar, in QCD the chromo-magnetic interaction contributes only to the near-zero modes of the Dirac operator, while confining chromo-electric interaction contributes to all modes. At high temperatures, above the chiral restoration crossover, QCD exhibits approximate SU(2)_{CS} and SU(2N_F) symmetries that are incompatible with free deconfined quarks. Consequently elementary objects in QCD in this regime are quarks with a definite chirality bound by the chromo-electric field, without the chromo-magnetic effects. In this regime QCD can be described as a stringy fluid.

Hyperon resonances coupled to pseudoscalar- and vector-baryon channels

    K. P. Khemchandani🇧🇷 · A. Martínez Torres🇧🇷 · J. A. Oller🇪🇸

We study hyperon resonances by solving coupled channel scattering equations. The coupled systems include pseudoscalar- and vector-baryon channels. The parameters of the model are restricted by making a -fit to the cross section data on processes: , , , , , . Data on the energy level shift and width of the state of the kaonic hydrogen, as well as some cross-section ratios near the threshold are also considered in the fit. Two types of fits are found as a result. In both cases, the properties of are well reproduced. In addition to this, a state is also found with mass around 1400 MeV. Cross sections, obtained with one of the two fits, are found to stay close to the data at energies away from the thresholds too, and as a result resonances with higher masses have also been studied.

Controlling Excited-State Contributions with Distillation in Lattice QCD Calculations of Nucleon Isovector Charges , ,

    Colin Egerer🇺🇸 · David Richards🇺🇸 · Frank Winter🇺🇸

We investigate the application of the distillation smearing approach, and the use of the variational method with an extended basis of operators facilitated by this approach, on the calculation of the nucleon isovector charges , , and . We find that the better sampling of the lattice enabled through the use of distillation yields a substantial reduction in the statistical uncertainty in comparison with the use of alternative smearing methods, and furthermore, appears to offer better control over the contribution of excited-states compared to use of a single, local interpolating operator. The additional benefit arising through the use of the variational method in the distillation approach is less dramatic, but nevertheless significant given that it requires no additional Dirac inversions.
