GW170817: constraining the nuclear matter equation of state from the neutron star tidal deformability

    Tuhin Malik · N. Alam · M. Fortin · C. Providência · B. K. Agrawal · T. K. Jha · Bharat Kumar · S. K. Patra

Constraints set on key parameters of the nuclear matter equation of state (EoS) by the values of the tidal deformability, inferred from GW170817, are examined by using a diverse set of relativistic and non-relativistic mean field models. These models are consistent with bulk properties of finite nuclei as well as with the observed lower bound on the maximum mass of neutron star . The tidal deformability shows a strong correlation with specific linear combinations of the isoscalar and isovector nuclear matter parameters associated with the EoS. Such correlations suggest that a precise value of the tidal deformability can put tight bounds on several EoS parameters, in particular, on the slope of the incompressibility and the curvature of the symmetry energy. The tidal deformability obtained from the GW170817 and its UV/optical/infrared counterpart sets the radius of a canonical neutron star to be km.

Rapidity scan in heavy ion collisions at ~GeV using a viscous hydro + cascade model

    Iurii Karpenko🇫🇷

In this note we discuss the rapidity dependence of the initial and final conditions for hydrodynamic evolution as well as the resulting basic hadronic observables in heavy ion collisions at GeV in the framework of a viscous hydro+cascade model vHLLE+UrQMD. The resulting rapidity dependences are driven to a big extent by the initial state, which is simulated with the UrQMD cascade. The results can serve as a prediction for future experiments such as the AFTER@LHC or the BES-II program at STAR.

Systematic analysis of the peripherality of the BeBe transfer reaction and extraction of the asymptotic normalization coefficient of Be bound states

    J. Yang · P. Capel

We reanalyze the experiment of Schmitt on the BeBe transfer reaction [Phys. Rev. Lett. , 192701 (2012)] by exploring the beam-energy and angular ranges at which the reaction is strictly peripheral. We consider the adiabatic distorted wave approximation (ADWA) to model the reaction and use a Halo-EFT description of Be to systematically explore the sensitivity of our calculations to the short-range physics of the Be- wave function. We find that by selecting the data at low beam energy and forward scattering angle the calculated cross sections scale nearly perfectly with the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) of the Be bound states. Following these results, a comparison of our calculations with the experimental data gives a value of fm for the ground-state ANC and fm for the excited-state, which are in perfect agreement with the calculations of Calci , who obtain fm and fm [Phys. Rev. Lett. , 242501 (2016)].

Can Long-Range Nuclear Properties Be Influenced By Short Range Interactions? A chiral dynamics estimate

    G.A. Miller🇺🇸 · A. Beck🇺🇸 · S. May-Tal Beck🇺🇸 · L.B. Weinstein🇺🇸 · E. Piasetzky🇮🇱 · O. Hen🇺🇸

Recent experiments and many-body calculations indicate that approximately 20\% of the nucleons in medium and heavy nuclei () are part of short-range correlated (SRC) primarily neutron-proton () pairs. We find that using chiral dynamics to account for the formation of pairs due to the effects of iterated and irreducible two-pion exchange leads to values consistent with the 20\% level. We further apply chiral dynamics to study how these correlations influence the calculations of nuclear charge radii, that traditionally truncate their effect, to find that they are capable of introducing non-negligible effects.

Operator Product Expansion in QCD Is Not Consistent With Quantum Field Theory For Gluon Distribution Function

    Gouranga C Nayak🇺🇸

Since the operator product expansion (OPE) is applicable at short distance the OPE in QCD does not solve the long distance confinement problem involving hadron in QCD where the non-perturbative QCD is applicable. In this paper we show that the gauge invariant definition of the non-perturbative gluon distribution function inside the hadron consistent with the operator product expansion (OPE) in QCD at high energy colliders is not consistent with the gauge invariant definition of the non-perturbative gluon distribution function in the quantum field theory.

Universal behaviour, transients and attractors in supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma

    Michał Spaliński🇵🇱

Numerical simulations of expanding plasma based on the AdS/CFT correspondence as well as kinetic theory and hydrodynamic models strongly suggest that some observables exhibit universal behaviour even when the system is not close to local equilibrium. This leading behaviour is expected to be corrected by transient, exponentially decaying contributions which carry information about the initial state. Focusing on late times, when the system is already in the hydrodynamic regime, we analyse numerical solutions describing expanding plasma of strongly coupled N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and identify these transient effects, matching them in a quantitative way to leading trans-series corrections corresponding to least-damped quasinormal modes of AdS black branes. In the process we offer additional evidence supporting the recent identification of the Borel sum of the hydrodynamic gradient expansion with the far-from-equilibrium attractor in this system.

Neutrino Spectral Split in the Exact Many Body Formalism

    Savas Birol🇹🇷 · Y. Pehlivan🇯🇵 · A. B. Balantekin🇺🇸 · T. Kajino🇨🇳

We consider the many-body system of neutrinos interacting with each other through neutral current weak force. Emerging many-body effects in such a system could play important roles in some astrophysical sites such as the core collapse supernovae. In the literature this many-body system is usually treated within the mean field approximation which is an effective one-body description based on omitting entangled neutrino states. In this paper, we consider the original many-body system in an effective two flavor mixing scenario under the single angle approximation and present a solution without using the mean field approximation. Our solution is formulated around a special class of many-body eigenstates which do not undergo any level crossings as the neutrino self interaction rate decreases while the neutrinos radiate from the supernova. In particular, an initial state which consists of electron neutrinos and antineutrinos of an orthogonal flavor can be entirely decomposed in terms of those eigenstates. Assuming that the conditions are perfectly adiabatic so that the evolution of these eigenstates follow their variation with the interaction rate, we show that this initial state develops a spectral split at exactly the same energy predicted by the mean field formulation.

    Kapil Saraswat🇮🇳 · Prashant Shukla🇮🇳 · Vineet Kumar🇮🇳 · Venktesh Singh🇮🇳

In this article, we will present a systematic analysis of transverse momentum spectra of the strange hadron in different multiplicity events produced in pp collision at = 7 TeV, pPb collision at = 5.02 TeV and PbPb collision at = 2.76 TeV. The differential freeze out scenario of strange hadron assumed while analyzing the data using a Tsallis distribution which is modified to include transverse flow. The distributions of strange hadron in different systems are characterized in terms of the parameters namely, Tsallis temperature (), power () and average transverse flow velocity ().

Charged and Neutral Current Pion Production in Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering

Kapil Saraswat · Prashant Shukla · Vineet Kumar · Venktesh Singh

In this article, we present the charged and neutral current coherent pion production in the neutrino-nucleus interaction in the resonance region using the formalism based on the partially conserved axial current (PCAC) theorem which relates the neutrino-nucleus cross section to the pion-nucleus elastic cross section. The pion nucleus elastic cross section is calculated using the Glauber model approach. We calculate the integrated cross sections for neutrino-carbon, neutrino-iron and neutrino-oxygen scattering. The results of integrated cross-section calculations are compared with the measured data

Equation of state of dense nuclear matter and neutron star structure from nuclear chiral interactions

    Ignazio Bombaci🇮🇹 · Domenico Logoteta🇮🇹

We report a new microscopic equation of state (EOS) of dense symmetric nuclear matter, pure neutron matter, and asymmetric and -stable nuclear matter at zero temperature using recent realistic two-body and three-body nuclear interactions derived in the framework of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and including the isobar intermediate state. This EOS is provided in tabular form and in parametrized form ready for use in numerical general relativity simulations of binary neutron star merging. Here we use our new EOS for -stable nuclear matter to compute various structural properties of non-rotating neutron stars. The EOS is derived using the Brueckner--Bethe--Goldstone quantum many-body theory in the Brueckner--Hartree--Fock approximation. Neutron star properties are next computed solving numerically the Tolman--Oppenheimer--Volkov structure equations. Our EOS models are able to reproduce the empirical saturation point of symmetric nuclear matter, the symmetry energy , and its slope parameter at the empirical saturation density . In addition, our EOS models are compatible with experimental data from collisions between heavy nuclei at energies ranging from a few tens of MeV up to several hundreds of MeV per nucleon. These experiments provide a selective test for constraining the nuclear EOS up to . Our EOS models are consistent with present measured neutron star masses and particularly with the mass of the neutron stars in PSR~J0348+0432.

Baryon number probability distribution at finite temperature

    Ke-xin Sun🇨🇳 · Rui Wen🇨🇳 · Wei-jie Fu🇨🇳

The probability distribution of the net baryon number is investigated within the functional renormalization group approach. We find that the Roberge-Weiss periodicity related to the Z(3) symmetry of the gluon fields results directly in that, states of the net baryon number with are prohibited, and only those of are possible. By employing the probability distribution of the net baryon number, we also compute the cumulants of the baryon number distribution, which are found to be well consistent with those obtained from the generalized susceptibilities. A question about the relation between the color confinement and the probability distribution of net baryon number is put forward.
