Description and prediction of even-A nuclear masses based on residual proton-neutron interactions

    B. B. Jiao🇨🇳

The odd-even staggering of neighboring nuclear masses is very useful in calculating local mass relations and nucleon-pair correlations. During the past decades, there has been an increasing interest in the odd-even features of the mass relations and related quantities exhibited in masses of neighboring nuclei. In this work, after choosing a nucleus, we made an analysis of its neighboring nuclei on the upper left corner and the lower right corner respectively. We empirically obtained a new residual interaction formula of even- ( is the mass number) nuclei, and it is an revision based on the existing empirical local formula of the proton-neutron interactions between the last proton and the last neutron (). We then calculated the even- nuclear masses. The differences between our calculated values and the AME2012 database show that the root-mean-squared deviations (RMSD) are small (for even- nuclei: 42, RMSD 161 keV; 100, RMSD 125 keV), while for heavy nuclei, some of our calculated values can reach an accuracy of a few tens of keV. With our residual interaction formula including one parameter, we have successfully predicted some unknown masses. Some of our predicted values compared well with the experimental values (AME2016). In addition, the accuracy and simplicity of our predicted masses for medium and heavy nuclei are comparable to those of the AME2012 (AME2016) extrapolations.

Nuclear dependence of the 2p2h electroweak response in the Relativistic Fermi Gas model

We present the results of a recent study of meson-exchange two-body currents in lepton-nucleus inclusive scattering at various kinematics and for different nuclei within the Relativistic Fermi Gas model. We show that the associated nuclear response functions at their peaks scale as , for Fermi momentum going from 200 to 300 MeV/c and momentum transfer from to 2 GeV/c. This behavior is different from what is found for the quasielastic response, which scales as . This result can be valuable in the analyses of long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, which need to implement these nuclear effects in Monte Carlo simulations for different kinematics and nuclear targets.

Rapidity distribution of particle multiplicity in DIS at small x

    B. Blok (1) · Yu. Dokshitzer (2) · M. Strikman (3) ((1) Technion · (2) LPTHE · (3) Penn State)

Analytical study of the rapidity distribution of the final state particles in deep inelastic scattering at small x is presented. We separate and analyse three sources of particle production: fragmentation of the quark-antiquark pair, accompanying coherent soft gluon radiation due to octet color exchange in the t-channel, and fragmentation of gluons that form parton distribution functions. Connection to Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) equations and the role of gluon reggezation are also discussed.

Thermalization in small system of hadron gas and high-multiplicity pp events

    Nachiketa Sarkar🇮🇳 · Premomoy Ghosh🇮🇳

We study the system-size dependence of Knudsen number, a measure of degree of thermalization, for hadron resonance gas that follows the Lattice-QCD equation of state at zero chemical potential. A comparison between Knudsen numbers for the AuAu collisions at RHIC and the hadron gas of size similar to the size of high-multiplicity pp events at LHC, reassures the applicability of hydrodynamics in interpreting the features of particle production in high-multiplicity pp events.

Precision Theoretical Analysis of Neutron Radiative Beta Decay to Order "O(\alpha^2/\pi^2)"

    A. N. Ivanov🇦🇹 · R. Höllwieser🇦🇹 · N. I. Troitskaya🇦🇹 · M. Wellenzohn🇦🇹 · Ya. A. Berdnikov🇷🇺

In the Standard Model (SM) we calculate the decay rate of the neutron radiative beta decay to order "O(\alpha^2/\pi^2 ~ 10^{-5})", where "\alpha$"is the fine--structure constant, and radiative corrections to order "O(\alpha/\pi ~ 10^{-3})". The obtained results together with the recent analysis of the neutron radiative beta decay to next-to-leading order in the large proton-mass expansion, performed by Ivanov et al. Phys. Rev. D95, 033007 (2017), describe recent experimental data by the RDK II Collaboration (Bales et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 242501 (2016)) within 1.5 standard deviations. We argue a substantial influence of strong low-energy interactions of hadrons coupled to photons on the properties of the amplitude of the neutron radiative beta decay under gauge transformations of real and virtual photons.
