A new approach for calculating nuclear symmetry energy

    Yong-Hui Xia🇨🇳 · Chang Xu🇨🇳 · Hong-Shi Zong🇨🇳

By using the functional path integral method, we obtain a model-independent formula for nuclear symmetry energy, which explicitly shows the relation between nuclear symmetry energy and isospin susceptibility. The latter one is found to be a probe to the QCD chiral phase transition. We further found that, the nuclear symmetry energy has an abrupt change at the critical nuclear density where the chiral symmetry restores partially, which could be detected from the experiments.

Three-body calculation of the level shift in kaonic deuterium with realistic potentials

    János Révai🇭🇺

The level shift in kaonic deuterium was calculated using Coulomb Sturmian expansion of Faddeev equations. The convergence of the method yields an accuracy for the level shifts. We used three different, realistic, multichannel interactions reproducing all known experimental two-body data. The different results suggest, that the level shift should be in the range . The (almost) exact level shifts were compared with values, given by the commonly used approximations.

    Skewness of elliptic flow fluctuations

    Giuliano Giacalone🇫🇷 · Li Yan🇫🇷 · Jacquelyn Noronha-Hostler🇺🇸 · Jean-Yves Ollitrault🇫🇷

Using event-by-event hydrodynamic calculations, we find that the fluctuations of the elliptic flow () in the reaction plane have a negative skew. We compare the skewness of fluctuations to that of initial eccentricity fluctuations. We show that skewness is the main effect lifting the degeneracy between higher-order cumulants, with negative skew corresponding to the hierarchy observed in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC. We describe how the skewness can be measured experimentally and show that hydrodynamics naturally reproduces its magnitude and centrality dependence.

Comparison of Tsallis statistics with the Tsallis-factorized statistics in the ultrarelativistic collisions

    A.S. Parvan🇷🇴

The Tsallis statistics was applied to describe the experimental data on the transverse momentum distributions of hadrons. We considered the energy dependence of the parameters of the Tsallis-factorized statistics, which is now widely used for the description of the experimental transverse momentum distributions of hadrons, and the Tsallis statistics for the charged pions produced in collisions at high energies. We found that the results of the Tsallis-factorized statistics deviate from the results of the Tsallis statistics only at low NA61/SHINE energies when the value of the entropic parameter is close to unity. At higher energies, when the value of the entropic parameter deviates essentially from unity, the Tsallis-factorized statistics satisfactorily recovers the results of the Tsallis statistics.

Neutron-gamma competition for -delayed neutron emission

Matthew Mumpower · Toshihiko Kawano · Peter Moller

We present a coupled Quasi-particle Random Phase Approximation and Hauser-Feshbach (QRPA+HF) model for calculating delayed particle emission. This approach uses microscopic nuclear structure information which starts with Gamow-Teller strength distributions in the daughter nucleus, and then follows the statistical decay until the initial available excitation energy is exhausted. Explicitly included at each particle emission stage is -ray competition. We explore this model in the context of neutron emission of neutron-rich nuclei and find that neutron-gamma competition can lead to both increases and decreases in neutron emission probabilities, depending on the system considered. A second consequence of this formalism is a prediction of more neutrons on average being emitted after -decay for nuclei near the neutron dripline compared to models that do not consider the statistical decay.

Study of the pd(dp) -> 3He pi pi reactions close to threshold

    F. Bellemann · A. Berg · J. Bisplinghoff · G. Bohlscheid · J. Ernst · C. Henrich · F. Hinterberger · R. Ibald · R. Jahn · R. Joosten · K. Kilian · A. Kozela and 10 other authors

New experimental data on the pd -> 3He pi+ pi- reaction obtained with the COSY-MOMO detector below the three-pion threshold are presented. The reaction was also studied in inverse kinematics with a deuteron beam and the higher counting rates achieved were especially important at low excess energies. The comparison of these data with inclusive pd -> 3He+X rates allowed estimates also to be made of pi0 pi0 production. The results confirm our earlier findings that close to threshold there is no enhancement at low excitation energies in the pi+ pi- system, where the data seem largely suppressed compared to phase space. Possible explanations for this behavior, such as strong p- waves in the pi+pi- -system or the influence of two-step processes, are explored.
