Participant number fluctuations for higher moments of a multiplicity distribution

    Viktor Begun🇵🇱

The independent participant model is generalized for skewness and kurtosis. The obtained relations allow to calculate the fluctuations of an arbitrarily high order. From the comparison with the SPS and the LHC data it is found that the participants are not nucleons. The contribution of the participant fluctuations increases with the order of fluctuations. The 5% centrality bins selected for the analysis at the LHC by ALICE seems to be too large. The fluctuations measures are dominated by the fluctuations of participants there. The method to quantify the value of participant number fluctuations experimentally is proposed.

Anomalous transport model study of chiral magnetic effects in heavy ion collisions

    Yifeng Sun🇺🇸 · Che-Ming Ko🇺🇸 · Feng Li🇺🇸

Using an anomalous transport model for massless quarks and antiquarks, we study the effect of a magnetic field on the elliptic flows of quarks and antiquarks in relativistic heavy ion collisions. With initial conditions from a blast wave model and assuming that the strong magnetic field produced in non-central heavy ion collisions can last for a sufficiently long time, we obtain an appreciable electric quadrupole moment in the transverse plane of a heavy ion collision. The electric quadrupole moment subsequently leads to a splitting between the elliptic flows of quarks and antiquarks. The slope of the charge asymmetry dependence of the elliptic flow difference between positively and negatively charged particles is positive, which is expected from the chiral magnetic wave formed in the produced QGP and observed in experiments at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, only if the Lorentz force acting on the charged particles is neglected and the quark-antiquark scattering is assumed to be dominated by the chirality changing channel.

Excited Scalar Mesons and the Search for Glueballs

Denis Parganlija (Vienna UT)🇦🇹 · Francesco Giacosa (Kielce U)🇵🇱

We discuss the importance of mixing between glueballs -- bound states of gluons -- and excited states for the glueball search. A preliminary study of the excited states in the Extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM) suggests their masses in the scalar channel to be in the vicinity of the scalar-glueball mass found in Lattice QCD. This could have implications for future glueball searches.

SU(2) low energy quark effective couplings in weak external magnetic field

    Fabio L. Braghin🇧🇷

In this work corrections to the usual flavor SU(2) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio coupling due to a weak external magnetic field are calculated by considering quark polarization in a (dressed) gluon exchange mechanism for quark interactions. The quark field is splitted into two components, one that condenses and another one that is a background field for interacting quarks, being the former integrated out. The resulting determinant is expanded for relatively large quark mass and small magnetic field, by resolving magnetic field dependent low energy quark effective interactions. Besides the corrections for the NJL and vector NJL effective couplings, different dependent effective couplings that break isospin and chiral symmetry emerge.
