    Spectra and elliptic flow for , , and in 200 A GeV Au+Au collisions

    Using VISHNU hybrid model, we calculate the -spectra and elliptic flow of , , and in 200 A GeV Au+Au collisions. Comparisons with the STAR measurements show that the model generally describes these soft hadron data. We also briefly study and discuss the mass ordering of elliptic flow among , , , , , and in minimum bias Au+Au collisions.

    Eta-mesic nuclei: past, present, future

    Eta-mesic nucleus or the quasibound nuclear state of an eta () meson in a nucleus is caused by strong-interaction force alone. This new type of nuclear species, which extends the landscape of nuclear physics, has been extensively studied since its prediction in 1986. In this paper, we review and analyze in great detail the models of the fundamental --nucleon interaction leading to the formation of an --mesic nucleus, the methods used in calculating the properties of a bound , and the approaches employed in the interpretation of the pertinent experimental data. In view of the successful observation of the --mesic nucleus Mg and other promising experimental results, future direction in searching for more --mesic nuclei is suggested.

    Influence of vibrational excitation on surface diffuseness of inter-nuclear potential: study through heavy-ion quasi-elastic scattering at deep subbarrier energies

    We discuss the role of channel coupling in the surface properties of an inter-nuclear potential for heavy-ion reactions. To this end, we analyze the experimental quasi-elastic cross sections for the C + Pd and C + Pd systems using the coupled-channels approach by including the vibrational excitations in the target nuclei. While earlier studies have reported a negligible influence of vibrational excitation on the surface diffuseness parameter for spherical systems, we find a significant effect for the C+Pd systems. Our systematic study also reveals influence of transfer couplings on the surface diffuseness parameter.

    Extended Skyrme Equation of State in asymmetric nuclear matter

    We present a new equation of state for infinite systems (symmetric, asymmetric and neutron matter) based on an extended Skyrme functional constrained by microscopic Brueckner-Bethe-Goldstone results. The resulting equation of state reproduces with very good accuracy the main features of microscopic calculations and it is compatible with recent measurements of two times Solar-mass neutron stars. We provide all necessary analytical expressions to facilitate a quick numerical implementation of quantities of astrophysical interest.

    Dileptons and Chiral Symmetry Restoration

    We report on recent work relating the medium effects observed in dilepton spectra in heavy-ion collisions to potential signals of chiral symmetry restoration. The key connection remains the approach to spectral function degeneracy between the vector-isovector channel with its chiral partner, the axialvector-isovector channel. Several approaches are discussed to elaborate this connection, namely QCD and Weinberg sum rules with input for chiral order parameters from lattice QCD, and chiral hadronic theory to directly evaluate the medium effects of the axialvector channel and the pertinent pion decay constant as function of temperature. A pattern emerges where the chiral mass splitting between rho and a_1 burns off and is accompanied by a strong broadening of the spectral distributions.

    Scalar field correlator in de Sitter space at next-to-leading order in a 1/N expansion

    We study the dynamics of light quantum scalar fields in de Sitter space on superhorizon scales. We compute the self-energy of an O(N) symmetric theory at next-to-leading order in a 1/N expansion in the regime of superhorizon momenta, and we obtain an exact analytical solution of the corresponding Dyson-Schwinger equations for the two-point correlator. This amounts to resumming the infinite series of nonlocal self-energy insertions, which typically generate spurious infrared and/or secular divergences. The potentially large de Sitter logarithms resum into well-behaved power laws from which we extract the field strength and mass renormalization. The nonperturbative 1/N expansion allows us to discuss the case of vanishing and negative tree-level square mass, which both correspond to strongly coupled effective theories in the infrared.
