Pion and proton form factors in the Regge description of electroproduction

    Tae Keun Choi🇰🇷 · Kook Jin Kong🇰🇷 · Byung Geel Yu🇰🇷

Electroproduction of above the resonance region is analyzed in the Regge model for exchanges. Importance of the roles of pion and proton form factors in the process is discussed in comparison with existing models of Kaskulov and Mosel, and of Vrancx and Rychebusch. It is shown that the present model with proton form factor of a simple dipole-type yields a better description of DESY and JLab data over those models for high and region up to 5 GeV.

Dynamical description of the fission process using the TD-BCS theory

Guillaume Scamps · Cédric Simenel · Denis Lacroix

The description of fission remains a challenge for nuclear microscopic theories. The time-dependent Hartree-Fock approach with BCS pairing is applied to study the last stage of the fission process. A good agreement is found for the one-body observables: the total kinetic energy and the average mass asymmetry. The non-physical dependence of two-body observables with the initial shape is discussed.

The influence of intruder states in even-even Po isotopes

    J.E. Garcia-Ramos · K. Heyde

We study the role of intruder states and shape coexistence in the even-even Po isotopes, through an interacting boson model with configuration mixing calculation. We analyzed the results in the light of known systematics on various observable in the Pb region, paying special attention to the unperturbed energy systematics and quadrupole deformation. We find that shape coexistence in the Po isotopes behaves in very much the same way as in the Pt isotopes, i.e., it is somehow hidden, contrary to the situation in the Pb and the Hg isotopes.

A short introduction to heavy-ion physics

    Sourendu Gupta🇮🇳

Heavy-ion collisions provide the only laboratory tests of relativistic quantum field theory at finite temperature. Understanding these is a necessary step in understanding the origins of our universe. These lectures introduce the subject to experimental particle physicists, in the hope that they will be useful to others as well. The phase diagram of QCD is briefly touched upon. Kinematic variables which arise in the collisions of heavy-ions beyond those in the collisions of protons or electrons are introduced. Finally, a few of the signals studied in heavy-ion collisions, and the kind of physics questions which they open up are discussed.

The Parton Orbital Angular Momentum: Status and Prospects

    Keh-Fei Liu🇺🇸 · Cedric Lorce🇺🇸

Theoretical progress on the formulation and classification of the quark and gluon orbital angular momenta (OAM) is reviewed. Their relation to parton distributions and open questions and puzzles are discussed. We give a status report on the lattice calculation of the parton kinetic and canonical OAM and point out several strategies to calculate the quark and gluon canonical OAM on the lattice.

Cosmological and Particle Physics Constraints on a New Non-Abelian SU(3) Gauge Model for Ordinary/Dark Matter Interaction

    O. Oliveira🇵🇹 · C. A. Bertulani🇺🇸 · M. S. Hussein🇧🇷 · W. de Paula🇧🇷 · T. Frederico🇧🇷

We propose a mirror model for ordinary and dark matter that assumes a new SU(3) gauge group of transformations, as a natural extension of the Standard Model (SM). A close study of big bang nucleosynthesis, baryon asymmetries, cosmic microwave background bounds, galaxy dynamics, together with the Standard Model assumptions, help us to set a limit on the mass and width of the new gauge boson. The cross section for the elastic scattering of a dark proton by an ordinary proton is estimated and compare to the WIMP--nucleon experimental upper bounds. It is observed that all experimental bounds for the various cross sections can be accommodated consistently within the gauge model. We also suggest a way for direct detection of the new gauge boson via one example of a SM forbidden process: , where or .

Correlation functions and correlation widths in Quantum-Chaotic Scattering for mesoscopic systems and nuclei

    J. G. G. S. Ramos · A. L. R. Barbosa · B. V. Carlson · T. Frederico · M. S. Hussein

We derive analytical expressions for the correlation functions of the electronic conductance fluctuations of an open quantum dot under several conditions. Both the variation of energy and that of an external parameter such as an applied perpendicular or parallel magnetic fields are considered in the general case of partial openness.. These expressions are then used to obtain the ensemble averaged density of maxima, a measure recently suggested to contain invaluable information concerning the chaoticity of the system. The correlation width is then calculated for the case of energy variation and a significant deviation from the Weisskopf estimate is found in the case of two terminals. The results are extended to more than two terminals. All our results are analytical. The use of these results in other fields, such as nuclei, where the system can only be studied through a variation of the energy, is then discussed.
