Four-body calculation of elastic deuteron-deuteron scattering

    A. Deltuva · A. C. Fonseca

Fully converged calculations of deuteron-deuteron elastic scattering observables are performed at energies above three- and four-body breakup threshold. Differential cross sections and analyzing powers are obtained using realistic nucleon-nucleon force models together with the Coulomb repulsion between protons. For all observables we find a very reasonable agreement with the available experimental data limited to deuteron beam energies up to 25.3 MeV.

Examining the stability of thermally fissile Th and U isotopes

    Bharat Kumar · S. K. Biswal · S. K. Singh · S. K. Patra

The properties of recently predicted thermally fissile Th and U isotopes are studied within the framework of relativistic mean field (RMF) approach using axially deformed basis. We calculated the ground, first intrinsic excited state and matter density for highly neutron-rich thorium and uranium isotopes. The possible modes of decay like -decay and -decay are analyzed. We found that the neutron-rich isotopes are stable against -decay, however they are very much unstable against -decay. The life time of these nuclei predicted to be tens of second against -decay. If these nuclei utilize before their decay time, a lots of energy can be produced within the help of multi-fragmentation fission. Also, these nuclei have a great implication in astrophysical point of view. The total nucleonic densities distribution are calculated, from which the clusters inside the parent nuclei are determined. %Most of the thorium isotopes are emitters, where as some %of them have short half-lives. In some cases, we found the isomeric states with energy range from 2 to 3 MeV and three minima in the potential energy surface of Th and U isotopes.

Woods-Saxon equivalent to a double folding potential

    A. S. Freitas · L. Marques · X. X. Zhang · M. A. Luzio · P. Guillaumon · R. Pampa Condori · R. Lichtenthäler

A Woods-Saxon equivalent to a double folding potential in the surface region is obtained for the heavy-ion scattering potential. The Woods-Saxon potential has fixed geometry and was applied as a bare potential in the analysis of experimental data of several systems. A new analytical formula for the position and height of the Coulomb barrier is presented, which reproduces the results obtained using double folding potentials. This simple formula has been applied to estimate the fusion cross section above the Coulomb barrier. A comparison with experimental data is presented.

Excited-state contamination in nucleon correlators from chiral perturbation theory

    Brian C. Tiburzi🇺🇸

Techniques to compute hadron properties from lattice QCD rely upon the limit of long time separation. For baryons, the signal-to-noise problem often restricts one to time separations that are not ideally long, and for which couplings to excited states can obstruct the isolation of ground-state baryon properties. We consider excited-state contamination in nucleon two- and three-point functions. Using chiral perturbation theory, we determine couplings to pion-nucleon and pion-delta excited states. In two-point functions, these contributions are small, in accordance with general properties of the spectral weights on a torus. For the axial-current correlation function in the nucleon, the sign of excited-state contributions suggests overestimation of the nucleon axial charge. Thus contamination from pion-nucleon excited states will not likely explain the trend in lattice QCD data.

The observation of light nuclei at ALICE and the X(3872) conundrum

    A. Esposito🇺🇸 · A.L. Guerrieri🇮🇹 · L. Maiani🇮🇹 · F. Piccinini🇮🇹 · A. Pilloni🇮🇹 · A.D. Polosa🇮🇹 · V. Riquer🇮🇹

The new data reported by ALICE on the production of light nuclei with pT < 10 GeV in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV are used to compute an order-of-magnitude estimate of the expected production cross sections of light nuclei in proton-proton collisions at high transverse momenta. We compare the hypertriton, helium-3 and deuteron production cross sections to that of X(3872), measured in prompt pp collisions by CMS. The results we find suggest a different production mechanism for the X(3872), making questionable any loosely bound molecule interpretation.

Observation of Spin-Dependent Charge Symmetry Breaking in Interaction: Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy of He

The energy spacing between the ground-state spin doublet of He(1,0) was determined to be keV, by measuring rays for the transition with a high efficiency germanium detector array in coincidence with the He He reaction at J-PARC. In comparison to the corresponding energy spacing in the mirror hypernucleus H, the present result clearly indicates the existence of charge symmetry breaking (CSB) in interaction. It is also found that the CSB effect is large in the ground state but is by one order of magnitude smaller in the excited state, demonstrating that the CSB interaction has spin dependence.

Effects of TMD evolution and partonic flavor on annihilation into hadrons

    Alessandro Bacchetta🇮🇹 · Miguel G. Echevarria🇳🇱 · Piet J.G. Mulders🇳🇱 · Marco Radici🇮🇹 · Andrea Signori🇳🇱

We calculate the transverse momentum dependence in the production of two back-to-back hadrons in electron-positron annihilations at the medium/large energy scales of BES-III and BELLE experiments. We use the parameters of the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) fragmentation functions that were recently extracted from the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic-scattering multiplicities at low energy from HERMES. TMD evolution is applied according to different approaches and using different parameters for the nonperturbative part of the evolution kernel, thus exploring the sensitivity of our results to these different choices and to the flavor dependence of parton fragmentation functions. We discuss how experimental measurements could discriminate among the various scenarios.

    Coincidence charged-current neutrino-induced deuteron disintegration

    O. Moreno🇺🇸 · T. W. Donnelly🇺🇸 · J. W. Van Orden🇺🇸 · W. P. Ford🇺🇸

Deuteron disintegration by charged-current neutrino (CC) scattering offers the possibility to determine the energy of the incident neutrino by measuring in coincidence two of the three resulting particles: a charged lepton (usually a muon) and two protons, where we show that this channel can be isolated from all other, for instance, from those with a pion in the final state. We discuss the kinematics of the process for several detection scenarios, both in terms of kinematic variables that are natural from a theoretical point of view and others that are better matched to experimental situations. The deuteron structure is obtained from a relativistic model (involving an approximation to the Bethe-Salpeter equation) as an extension of a previous, well-tested model used in deuteron electrodisintegration. We provide inclusive and coincidence (semi-inclusive) cross sections for a variety of kinematic conditions, using the plane-wave impulse approximation, introducing final-state hadronic exchange terms (plane-wave Born approximation) and final-state hadronic interactions (distorted-wave Born approximation).

Bridging Soft-Hard Transport Properties of Quark-Gluon Plasmas with CUJET3.0

    Jiechen Xu🇺🇸 · Jinfeng Liao🇺🇸 · Miklos Gyulassy🇺🇸

A new model of jet quenching in nuclear collisions, CUJET3.0, is constructed by generalizing the perturbative QCD based CUJET2.0 model to include two complementary non-perturbative features of the QCD confinement cross-over phase transition near MeV: (1) the suppression of quark and gluon degrees of freedom and (2) the emergence of chromo-magnetic monopole degrees of freedom. Such a semi-Quark-Gluon-Monopole Plasma (sQGMP) microscopic scenario is tested by comparing predictions of the leading hadron nuclear modification factors, , and their azimuthal elliptic asymmetry with available data on jet fragments from nuclear collisions at RHIC( ATeV) and LHC(=2.76 ATeV). The sQGMP model is shown to solve the long standing vs puzzle by predicting a maximum of the jet quenching parameter field near . The consistency of jet quenching with observed bulk perfect fluidity is demonstrated by extrapolating the sQGMP down to thermal energy scales and showing that the sQGMP shear viscosity to entropy density ratio falls close to the unitarity bound, , in the range . Detailed comparisons of CUJET2.0 and CUJET3.0 reveal that the remarkably different could be consistent with the same data and could only be distinguished by anisotropy observables. These findings demonstrate clearly the inadequacy of focusing on the jet path averaged quantity as the only relevant medium property to characterize jet quenching, and point to the crucial roles of other essential factors, such as the chromo electric and magnetic composites of the plasma, the screening masses and the running couplings at multiple scales that all strongly influence jet energy loss.
