3-cluster structure and monopole transition in C and C

Abstract

3-cluster structures and monopole transitions of states in C and C were investigated with - and Be+-cluster models. A gas-like state and a bending-chain state were obtained in the and states of C, respectively. In C, a linear-chain 3 structure is found in the state near the Be+ threshold, but a cluster gas-like state does not appear because valence neutrons attract clusters and suppress spatial development of 3 clustering. It was found that the linear-chain state in C is stabilized against the bending and escaping modes by valence neutrons. The monopole transition strengths in C are enhanced by -cluster developing, whereas, those in C are not enhanced so much because of the tight binding of clusters by valence neutrons.
