Impacts of hexadecapole deformations on the collective energy spectra of axially deformed nuclei

    L. Lotina · K. Nomura

The hexadecapole deformation, as well as the quadrupole one, influences the low-lying states of finite nuclei. The hexadecapole correlations are often overshadowed by the large quadrupole effects, and hence have not been much investigated. Here we address the relevance of hexadecapole deformations in the calculations of low-energy collective states of heavy nuclei, by using the theoretical framework of the self-consistent mean-field method and the interacting-boson approximation. The interacting-boson Hamiltonian that explicitly includes the quadrupole and hexadecapole collective degrees of freedom is specified by a choice of the energy density functional and pairing interaction. In an illustrative application to axially deformed Gd isotopes, it is shown that the inclusion of the hexadecapole degree of freedom does not affect most of the low-spin and low-lying states qualitatively, but that has notable effects in that it significantly improves the description of high-spin states of the ground-state bands of nearly spherical vibrational nuclei and gives rise to bands exhibiting strong transitions in strongly deformed nuclei.

Coupling shape and pairing vibrations in a collective Hamiltonian based on nuclear energy density functionals (II): low-energy excitation spectra of triaxial nuclei

    J. Xiang · Z. P. Li · T. Nikšić · D. Vretenar · W. H. Long · X. Y. Wu

The triaxial quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, based on relativistic energy density functionals, is extended to include a pairing collective coordinate. In addition to triaxial shape vibrations and rotations, the model describes pairing vibrations and the coupling between triaxial shape and pairing degrees of freedom. The parameters of the collective Hamiltonian are determined by a covariant energy density functional, with constraints on the intrinsic triaxial shape and pairing deformations. The effect of coupling between triaxial shape and pairing degrees of freedom is analyzed in a study of low-lying spectra and transition rates of Xe. When compared to results obtained with the standard triaxial quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, the inclusion of dynamical pairing compresses the low-lying spectra and improves interband transitions, in better agreement with data. The effect of zero-point energy (ZPE) correction on low-lying excited spectra is also discussed.

Thermal twin stars within a hybrid equation of state based on a nonlocal chiral quark model compatible with modern astrophysical observations

    J.P. Carlomagno🇦🇷 · G.A. Contrera🇦🇷 · A.G. Grunfeld🇦🇷 · D. Blaschke🇩🇪

We investigate the extension to finite temperatures and neutrino chemical potentials of a recently developed nonlocal chiral quark model approach to the equation of state of neutron star matter. We consider two light quark flavors and current-current interactions in the scalar-pseudoscalar, vector, and diquark pairing channels, where the nonlocality of the currents is taken into account by a Gaussian form factor that depends on the spatial components of the 4-momentum. Within this framework, we analyze order parameters, critical temperatures, phase diagrams, equations of state, and mass-radius relations for different temperatures and neutrino chemical potentials. For parameters of the model that are constrained by recent multi-messenger observations of neutron stars, we find that the mass-radius diagram for isothermal hybrid star sequences exhibits the thermal twin phenomenon for temperatures above 30 MeV.
