    Effects of Quasiparticle-Vibration Coupling on Gamow-Teller Strength and Decay with the Skyrme Proton-Neutron Finite-Amplitude Method

    We adapt the proton-neutron finite-amplitude method, which in its original form is an efficient implementation of the Skyrme quasiparticle random phase approximation, to include the coupling of quasiparticles to like-particle phonons. The approach allows us to add beyond-QRPA correlations to computations of Gamow-Teller strength and -decay rates in deformed nuclei for the first time. We test the approach in several deformed isotopes for which measured strength distributions are available. The additional correlations dramatically improve agreement with the data, and will lead to improved global -decay rates.

    Expanding proton dripline by employing a number of muons

    Through mean-field calculations, we demonstrate that, in a large nucleus binding multiple muons, these heavy leptons localize within a few dozen femtometers of the nucleus. The mutual Coulomb interactions between the muons and the protons can lead to a substantial decrease in proton chemical potential, surpassing 1 MeV. These findings allow for expanding the proton-dripline on the nuclear chart in principle, suggesting the possible production of nuclei with Z around 120.

    Deciphering capture events in light emulsion nuclei

    We recently showed that all five KEK and J-PARC uniquely assigned two-body +ZZ'+Z'' capture events in CNO light emulsion nuclei are consistent with Coulomb-assisted nuclear states in a -nuclear potential of nuclear-matter depth MeV [1]. Here we argue that the recently reported N capture events named KINKA and IRRAWADDY are more likely --C nuclear states [2] than --N states, the latter assignment implying considerably smaller values of .
